I think that for the price of the CYO dolls, there should be all face molds for both girl an boy dolls and on girl dolls the option to get painted lashes, the same as freckles can be added.
My son is 7yrs old and autistic. When he was in speech and behavioral therapy he was actually marked down in evaluation because he didnt play with dolls in the room. I explained it was because he didnt have any at home. We had a daughter and now the house is filled with dolls and some belong to my son that he likes. My daughter likes action figures. Kids dont fit into boxes and I definitely agree with you boys do enjoy their boy dolls just as much as I do as a collector. More of this.
Thanks for sharing! I just went on the site and messed around with the new options. Pretty cool! I hope they add more face molds for girls too. Actually, Marie Grace makes a really cute boy too, so it would be great if they added Joss, Marie Grace and Nanea.
I think the bigger problem here is the lack of options in CYO. Especially the lack of hair options for the boys. If you want to be heard you shouldn’t be embarrassed when AG sees your posts. You want changes right? So, you have to get their attention.
In fairness to Mattel, most guy doll collectors collect fashion dolls, not baby dolls or child dolls. The amount of guys who collect AG is very small. Barbies? There are tons of them. I belong in both collector groups, and it's no contest. I actually dig the guy Barbie collectors. They're usually easier to get along with than the women. As for playing with dolls, that's more ingrained into humans. It's not really a social thing. They did this experiment with chimpanzees where they offered toy cars and toy dolls to male and female chimps. The female chimps chose the dolls, the male chimps chose the trucks. That has to do with natural selection. Females that have a maternal instinct are more likely to have children that survive childhood, so the mothering gene gets passed on and is activated in girls. Sure, some boys play with dolls. Most don't. And that's okay. Can we not just come out and say that it's okay for girls to like dolls and boys to like action figures? That is nothing to be ashamed of. As for boys who didn't get to play with dolls, if you talk to them more, it's pretty much Barbies that they wanted. It is rarely any of these. Mattel knows their audience very well. Most of their sales are women and girls. It's not a big deal. Mattel also probably already had that text from an older post that they just sliced the doll with it. Honestly, the brand was made to empower girls. There is nothing wrong with that. Mattel has every right to market to the people who buy their products. This is making a mountain out of a mole hill. I feel bad for the people who work there because they have to deal with crap like this. Some innocent employee probably got lectured at and a ridiculous company email went out. Mattel's expecting mostly little girls to get these dolls. Period. You don't market dog treats to cat owners. Do some cats eat dog treats? Probably. You still have to go with the group that is the main audience. That is who Mattel caters to. I'm frustrated because I used to work at Toys R Us and would talk to the Mattel rep every time I saw her. I learned a lot from her about why decisions are made. This was completely unnecessary. I feel terrible for the poor employees. You guys have got to chill. This is literally how you kill a brand. I can't remember if it was Gap or Old Navy, but they decided to do inclusive sizing where they ordered the same amount of every single size for their clothes to be inclusive. They mixed them throughout the store. There was no longer a plus size or a petite section. The sizes that sold were the S, M, L, XL. Like always. Since they had even amounts of everything, they had a lot of XS and the bigger than XL sizes left. Also, some people got frustrated because they couldn't figure out where their section was. Led to drop in sales and loss of customers. If Mattel had put that image up there with "he'll love," I would have thought they were doing a late April Fool's joke because that's not their target audience and it would look ridiculous. Can people please stop trying to tell Mattel how to run their business into the ground? Leave these poor people alone. They've been in the business for decades longer than we've been alive. They can handle it and know how to market better than we do. Clearly. Also, the bigger problem is they did the Kaya face for a boy doll. Again. They're saying that Native Americans look masculine. They also didn't give the option in the girls to use that face mold or to have the boys have the longer hair wigs. They also left out the other more ethnic male doll face molds. This was a poorly executed update. They aren't giving the collectors what they asked for. Apparently, the curly haired boy wig isn't available in as many hair colors either. That's another problem. Y'all are worried about a word in an Instagram story? A single word?! When they've made way more aggravating things here? None of you all are questioning why the boy doll is segregated in CYO? No? They should have really had fun with it: drop in Nanea, Marie-Grace, Claudie, and Joss molds into CYO. Heck, make a CYO exclusive mold. They should have brought back light red hair like a lot of us CYO fans (I have made 4 CYO dolls over the years and have 2 others from benefit sale) have been asking for. Add in new hair colors and wigs. When is Evette's style of wig going to be in CYO? Add back the missing blue eye color they took away. Add in the Felicity green eyes and a few other eye colors. Do new freckle patterns. Do a double ear piercing option. Have fun with it. They should really add more CYO options. Make it truly a unique experience. Bring back the bangs!
I totally agree with you. I was never interested in “baby” dolls as kid or even now. I simply fucked up my algorithm bc of the historical line of AG 90s twins 😄 that I ordered as gag gift for myself bc according to Mattel I’m “historical” now 😅 Growing up in the 90s I never cared about only girls being in Barbie commercials and thinking now about gender neutral marketing for some dolls and I’m terrified of all the changes it could possibly brought. Just imagining “neutral” Barbie gives me shivers 😂
@@TreshPanda Mattel has used boys in Barbie ads. I don't know if it affected sales. Most Barbie collectors were chill with it since, like I mentioned, the male doll collectors tend to like the fashion dolls and some wanted to play with them as kids. This type of doll though, is definitely geared toward girls. It's dominated by female collectors. Adult collectors are growing for this brand, but not in men. It's rare to see a male AG collector. There are some men who do collect antique baby dolls. I have seen that. That could just be a love of an era. Most people who collect those type of dolls are not messing with them much (changing clothes, taking them out for photos, etc.) since they're so old and so much more fragile. I don't see men collecting like Bitty Baby. I collect My Child dolls, which were dolls from my childhood and are baby/toddler. Same with Cabbage Patch. Cabbage Patch is actually another exception. I do know some men who collect CPK. HOWEVER, Coleco always marketed those dolls to boys and girls. There were several dolls for boys back in the 80s. My Buddy comes to mind. CPK male collectors don't bother me. They're about the same as the women who collect them. I will still iterate that male Barbie collectors are chill. They're usually so much nicer than the women. I'm still scarred from my days belonging to the Barbie collectors club and being in that horrible forum with those mean women always attacking everything. The FB groups are not bad. Can you tell I've collected dolls most of my life? I'm a little obsessed. I am happy that at least 6 people agreed with me that this was an overreaction. Thank you!
@@luckdragongirl I’m from Czech Republic and the market is a lil bit different here. We didn’t have a lot of Barbie commercials and most of the dolls were brought here around the end of 90s already with the redesigned body. Sadly I missed the era of ultra puffy and pink dresses. Btw your knowledge is impressive, I never even held a CPK 😅 To this days we are dominated by three baby dolls (Chou-Chou, Baby born and Annabel) Zapf Creation is holding our country in literal chokehold since 60s.
As I kid I thought I wasn’t even allowed to ask for a doll, as long as I can remember I knew they just weren’t for me. I don’t understand why companies push these gender stereotypes in their marketing like it causes insecurities in kids and cuts their potential profits in half? Make it make sense
I’m trans (FTM) and I agree a lot with how the idea that only girls play with dolls is harmful. I get misgendered very often all because I have dolls and it’s really hurtful to my mental health, and I’ve even been close to stopping my collection due to it. Thank you for this video!
Using a singular pronoun at all feels a little weird. After all, multiple people will be buying these dolls, and hopefully multiple people will love them, hence plural they would be most accurate.

Male collector here who doesn’t care at all that it said “she.” To each their own.
Exactly. This is just creating drama in the community.

I recently complained to ag about the kaya mold not being available for the girls so maybe they will fix that.

when i was playing around with it the other day you could use the kaya mold to make a girl and boy doll. Just a heads up.

I know this a tough world these days with so much discrimination. If the dolls make you happy, you shouldn’t stop collecting 🙏🏻
There is no drama here. You are creating drama for the community. It's a doll
A toy
Anyone can play with it
Simple. Jeeze
