Things I liked: Braelyn playing for Wagoner, Westerberg subbed in for Williams instead of Igiede, for the first time in a few weeks they looked like they were having fun, IOSIA HITTING AND CHOY SETTING THE MIDDLES.
the first time i saw the head coach for CSF back in 2015 i immediately liked her. that was the year CSF went with no win the whole year nd yet she still had a smile on her face nd seemed so calm.
Matt lives2travel it’s one thing to expect perfection, but those players can’t even perform CONSISTENTLY. That’s a problem that deserves the unimpressed expression she keeps giving.
A win's a win but everybody has to understand that two of our top players weren't in the game they definitely stepped it up in the end pops to the team
“We’re Carlos?” I get that our top players weren’t playing, but that’s no excuse. Everyone needs to pull their weight and not depend on one or two players to save them.
@@locomojoboy2 I get that as well. But give credit where credit's due. Yeah they didn't start great but most of this team looks upon leaders to rile them and last night, Iosia stepped up and led the charge. They look for veteranship on the court and when your vets are not producing, it could pressure these freshmen but they're learning that they can count on themselves to produce!
@@locomojoboy2 You really have to stop saying '2 players don't make a team. Truth be told, it's not only the two of them. If you've been watching, Helvig is also nursing an injury to her non hitting arm. Friday night, she rolled her ankle third set (I believe) and she's been overcompensating for it since then. Taking that into account, our 3 top outsides are playing injured or not cleared due to injury. For most other teams, having a 4, 5, 6 option at outside is not in the books. Luckily we have a plethora of decent hitters and we're just finding whoever's on for the evening.
End of the night, we have two outstanding setters who essentially took control of the game. Norene being the more vocal of the two but people forget that Bailey is also a very good setter.
japanaloha I’m not the one using the two injured players, who didnt play, as an excuse for why the team performed so bad in the first 3 sets. I’m blaming ALL of them.
i commend the commentators who were able to stick through this and doing a great job too (as they usually do).. instead of the natural reaction which is just to sit in silence and wince at how far this game is from this team's full potential
Wahines needs to step up their receiving, passes, blocks, they were doing great in the beginning, what else could've happened for them to play too loose. Come on Wahines you guys gotta work harder and do a way better job then what happened if you want a chance to get to the NCAA tournament. Where we always expect you guys should be every year. Go gettem coach Robin hammer time. Last night was a sad game ever. Focus. You're back on the road soon. We want you guys in a better stance and health when going abroad. Go Wahines.
That was nearly oblivion that the Wahine faced. Set 3 especially, where they trailed by 7 for a time. They almost got wiped out in straight sets to a lowly team like Fullerton. Boy did they not make it look easy on themselves. Great win for them in this one, but they gotta improve their starts before they fall into some sticky runs and fall terribly in sets.
Those are advanced skill sets, hitting across your body (right-to-left) and wrist-away. I hope their hitting coaches analyze their form on film, and make the necessary adjustments to get your skills consistently productive. Iosia has a nice wrist-snap on her spikes, which is why she has good topspin on her serves and hits.
@@kazutoshimukai9849 Wagoner in terms of passing is much better than Ross, however Wagoner doesn't challenge the block enough and makes errors hitting the ball out a lot of the time
@@carloviloria875 Look at toss for her. It is too close to the net unfortunately. But Ross challenges the block to much. That is why her hitting percentage is negative.

STOP HITTING THE BALL RIGHT TO THEIR FUCKING RECEIVERS!!! I swear the majority of the time every one of their opponents’ receivers don’t even have to move their legs because girls like Helvig and Wagoner would hit the ball right to them. Hit it in front or to the side of them. Make them work for it! And stop tipping the ball, it’s too damn predictable. Hit it where they’re not. And if you’re going to tip it, tip it way BEHIND them and not into their block. But who would have thought that it would take someone like Akana to get this team back on their feet? I swear ever since she came in the wahine started to get their shit together. Lol the coach must have been like “well we can’t get any fucking worse at this point...Akana you’re going in.” And from the fourth set on, we finally see the wahine play like they actually want to win. Prior to that, none of them would make any effort to sacrifice their bodies to save the ball. They’d just stand and watch it fall to the floor right next to them. But from the 4th set on we finally see them sacrificing their bodies to the floor to keep the ball in play. Girls like Igede and Okino really stood out for that. And Okino finally got her shit together and started playing like a libero because prior to that she was really sucking at her job. I think Akana is going to start seeing more floor time because of her important contribution in this game. And I don’t know what it is exactly but something about the two main middles, Williams and Igede, are really off when it comes to their quick attacks. They’re REALLY sloppy when hitting the ball. I think it’s a combination of them getting a shitty set, and jumping directly underneath the ball to hit it rather than jumping behind the ball and hitting it when it’s IN FRONT of them. Maybe some of the more knowledgeable people can tell me what it is because I don’t know why Williams and Igede look so sloppy and can’t hit the ball for shit when it comes to quick attacks? All in all, it would have been embarrassing as fuck for them to lose to another non-ranked team, let alone get swept by them. They need to start playing like they want to win, like they did in the 4th and 5th sets by sacrificing their bodies to keep the ball alive. Because if they’re going to keep playing like they did in the first two sets, then they deserve to lose.
I think they are passing way to much to Hellvig. Williams and Igiede are awesome, hardly ever loose a play. They have so much potential and they are not being used as they should. Iosia is also an awesome hitter. She should be hitting. Some of the other girls seating, or standing the whole game, why can't they seat down? It is not good to be standing the whole time. There are some good players there too. Got to save their bodies for when they need it. What happened to Van Sickle? She's not playing as good as in the beginning. Is she hurt too?? It was very hard to see them do so well, and stared to do a lot of mistakes ending up loosing the game with Irvine.... SAD!!! ;"0(
- The middles attack at a high percentage, but you can't run the middles unless you get a good pass -- hawaii has struggled on serve receive lately and even more so this past weekend as UCI and CSF served Ross well over 50% of the time and she struggled for long stretches on serve receive. - Brooke got hurt early in Set 3 on a serve receive against UCI. BVS and Wagner have essentially played the primary back middle positions this year, essentially serving as the core of the defense (even more so since they're playing without a Libero) -- you saw the dropoff in defense when she got hurt.
Except the bad sets combined with both sky and amber jumping directly underneath the ball rather than behind it to hit it, has been yielding errors or sloppy and easily received digs.
So many unforced errors. Hawaii needs a better libero(Okino). Hanawahine plays so much better than Okino and should be getting more time in court. Wagoner isn’t playing all that great for the amount of time she’s getting on the court. She made so many hitting errors and making balls drop.
@@locomojoboy2 no don't get me wrong they had every right too. But sometimes acting cocky and not staying somewhat humble can bite you in the ass. Just saying! Hawai'i did play like crap i'll agree with you on that, but even when they win you don't see them acting like they all that.
