I would do two things with this trailer. First, I would get a small portable TV and put it on the table or somewhere and run a cable to the connection points on the ceiling. Don't bother mounting one in that awkward place. Then, I would get a small Ikea storage cabinet that would fit between the door and dinette. Get one with an opening underneath for a shoe garage if you want. But some extra storage right there would be most welcome.
For a Murphy bed setup and no slide it's actually an excellent layout. I think i like the decore in the Salem better. For sure the square sink, but I'd change out the facet setup and put in goose neck with a sprayer.
@Josh the RV Nerd at Bish's RV the interior. The Salem in your video link showed it to be a two-tone. Maybe it's a different year, but it wasn't the light color.
We've seen that blank spot between dinette and door. It would be nice to have a storage area for commonly used, and have the counter about 4' high. Like one of those shelf systems with bins. Skylight looks weird and definitely in the wrong space. I like the kitchen. I wish more manufacturers would take a closer look at the 2 burner vertical stove. I would love a windshield. Traveling alone I'd probably leave the bed down, and I'd love to be able to have all the natural light plus be able to stargaze while in bed. Pass thru? What pass thru? That is pretty much useless for anything but pool noodles. It could work for a patio rug, or a screen tent, but it looks like you can't get it in there if you can't bend it. To me it's a deal breaker. If it's possible to move the door a few inches toward the back it would be much better. There is more usable space around the mini fridge. It would help quite a bit if there was a way to put s rank on the rear bumper, but I didn't see a hitch? I like the layout, It leaves a lot to be desired though.
If they upgraded the axle or offered dual axle this would be my next RV. It has the things I need and the stuff I don't want would be easy to adapt. Sadly the CCC is just too low.
MSRP is roughly $25k - this little solo/couples camper is priced right! Have you seen some of the "Ember Small Camper Big Problems" videos lately? It's a shame folks are paying high prices only to be fixing issues. This one looks really nice and it may last a full camp season without doing major repairs
I have the Salem version of this rv with the double bunks in the back. Been living in it for about ten months now and love it. The Murphy bed is great. I threw away the stock mattress and bought a dence memory foam and it folds fine. For the TV I have a swing arm mount over the bed window and it's great. I move the TV when I fold the bed up or down. Can see the tv from any seat. Even the back bunk beds. I have a larger outside kitchen but it's my garage, sold the little fridge. My harbor freight generator fits there perfect. Of coarse I remove it when I use it. Love the fiberglass walls, they are much better than the tin. Wish I had a tankless water heater though. In the winter must take quick showers. Love my 12 volt fridge, it's awesome. I have 200 watts of solar and can camp without the genni if it's not too hot or cold and food stays cold. Plastic kitchen sink sucks, I'll get a metal one someday. My pass through is much better than the one in this video. Really strange what they did there. Trailer pulls great, keep the tanks empty and no heavy stuff in the back if you don't like the tug n wiggle. I don't have any leveling stuff, just airbags on the back of the truck does great. Wish the ac had a digital thermostat. Hardly use the furnace as it's too loud. Electric radiator style heater works great. Keep it under the table in the middle of the rig. Love my little house on wheels.
We just bought the 2023 version of this trailer a couple days ago. We take delivery this weekend, and since it's our first upgrade from an aging popup, we're super excited! Ours has frosted glass on the door. 😜 What really sold me was the walk around bed layout. After 37 years of crawling over my husband to go to the bathroom in the night, I'm ready to feel like I'm in a regular bed, although I'm going to need a small stool to get in and out of it. The bed is very tall.
I wasn't going to look at RV videos today, but then the RV Nerd popped up so I decided to take a break from all the grump-inducing world news and watch this instead. Glad I did. I feel so much more cheerful now. LOL! Nice little trailer. The CCC is a deal breaker for me though. But if someone gave me this trailer for dirt cheap, I wouldn't complain. I would ditch the extra little fridge though and use that space for storage. Definitely add a counter-top extension. So, is there anything new and exciting in tear-drop campers?
As a basic affordable first camper, it's very nice! It has a good amount of interior storage for its small class & it's very cheerful, airy & uncluttered looking. Also like the little cube fridge on the outside. But you could remove it for extra storage space if needed. The skylight placement is pretty weird though, agree. As well as not having a door window shade. But you can easily buy a little magnetic curtain rod for just a few dollars. Overall, it doesn't seem like a mini-camper inside. The 7-1/2' width makes it look very spacious. 👍
This is a great little camper, we were looking at this for our in-laws and came across the 171rbxl dual axles, crazy cargo capacity a little more $$ but you get a heck of a lot more camper.
Thanks Josh, I really appreciated Your video. I’m hoping to get one of these guys soon, and now I have a great idea of what I’m getting. Have a blessed day!
What a great little camper! Love the optional seating of a couch or the dinette(I used to own a pop up with only the dinette for seating). Would be on the top of my list if I hadn't bought a new camper last year to replace the pop up.
Shower Beers! Awesome nerdism Josh. It has a max air fan in the shower bubble. I do not like the outside refrigerator. I would get rid of it and use it for storage. The biggest fault in this camper is the small kitchen. I would have taken some of the dead space in front of it and extended the kitchen. My next nitpick is the dead space between the door and the table. Forest River could have put a shoe garage and a set of cabinets in that space. It's a nice RV but it needs some improvements.
Uncle Josh....Uncle Josh........You got dizzy? Are you preggers???? LOL! Seriously, us boondocking types like the old fashioned steps, works anywhere. The fancy new fangled ones need pretty even ground. I would yank the mini fridge out and use that space for leveling blocks etc, etc. Good old ice chest loaded with ice & beer works for me. I would like to see the bathroom wall moved forward to be flush with the dinette seat back and have the door inside the bathroom. This would allow for a better TV mounting location and still provide the same amount of room in the bath. I'm always for more cabinets so would rather have a bit more work setting up the bed. Also if this were just the two of us the bed would come down and likely stay down until we were ready to leave. To watch TV we would sit in the dinette or use a couple of extra pillows to lounge on the bed. I don't mind the two burner range. In fact they work better than the three burner models with our cast iron griddle. However if they are going to leave out the oven they really need to install a convection microwave (even at this price point). No means to bake or roast is a deal killer for us. The external storage is kind of small but with the lower cargo capacity it looks like it is enough to hold a couple of chairs, ez-up and other camping essentials. Those steel stairs tend to rust quickly and can be a bit awkward to put in and out. I would rather see them in the aluminum version which look better over the long term and work a little smoother. Over all a nice trailer that would make a good starter trailer that a couple would not outgrow in a couple of seasons.
I have a 2022 R-Pod 192 and that is exactly what they did with their sliding bathroom door and television. I don't watch TV when I camp so I took the TV out and will use that blank wall for a map, calendar or maybe a couple of kitchen hammocks for things like napkins, fruit etc.
@@oldengineer1519 for what its worth the brand manager read your comment and basically went 🤦🏻♂ 99% sure they'll be making the exact change you described. How cool!
For shoe storage just pull the back off the bench. Trim it out. And paint the inside and trim to match cabinets. Left side shoe storage, right side stick a bin for whatever storage you need. We're all doing it with our FSX 179DBK's.
Love your reviews Josh, sometimes I just watch for the entertainment! You mentioned if the trailer had a front window it would look "really smexy". You also mention a shoe garage, have you seen the R-Pod 192? If not you should review it as it's nearly identical but has a front window and shoe garage.
Make it a permanent bed with a dinofa or a couple of movable recliners with the option of a small table. Could the camode be turn slightly for better "access"? That skylight in the shower wouldn't effect me but yeah...taller folks might not appreciate that. I missed if that was a convection microwave.
