@@GreatApesZoo I have sent a message to the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA). I'm hoping they can be of assistance. Not sure what I can do from here in the U.S., but willing to do anything to help the animal residents.

お客たちは、遊びに来てるのでどうしようもないでしょう。
死亡した→飼育員さんが悲しんでる。 このくらいの感想しか持たないのが現状です。
それをいいことに、1人体制でコストを抑えることしか考えない。
園長はよく「野生では」と例えて話をしますが、それならば野生と同じ環境を整えねばならない。つまり聞こえの良いその話は一方的な人間都合なわけです。
ミコ様の娘ミツコちゃんを死なせた天王寺の不備を考え続けて思うのは、例え群で移動できる熊本サンクチュアリのような夢の施設があっても、高齢個体を動かせるとは限りません。酷い環境でも住み慣れたこの地が終の住み家とおそらくなります。
では、彼らに何をすべきか?日々、一つでも何かを改善し、今を生きる彼らの今日を幸せにするしかありません。
それには人員、予算、経験、知識がいるでしょう。もちろんチンパンジーだけではなく、飼育する全ての動物においてです。それを旭川市と旭山動物園のトップが真摯に向き合えるのか?
飼育員も全てのプライドを捨てて、円山動物園の動物福祉を学びに行くべきです。
ここの園長は、前園長への義理だけで動いているのでしょうね。だから他の意見は全く聞く耳を持たない。
方針を変更すれば、今の収益状況を確立した前園長への反逆になるからでしょう。もはやロシアの政治体制に近いです。
動物園以前の問題で、人間関係の問題が動物たちに被害が広がっているのだと感じます。

残念ながら全て事実です。そしてこの動画に映っているタケル(♂18歳)は、今年の4月2日に仲間の攻撃に晒され続けて死にました。以前からその危険も利用者から叫ばれ続けていましたが、旭山は何の手立てもしていませんでした。人気とは裏腹に残酷な動物園でもあります。

I was so HEARTBROKEN when the baby chimp from this zoo died a few months ago!!! It's horrible the conditions these animals are living in and it's lead to WAY too many deaths!!!! I don't know how this zoo isn't investigated and shut down?!?! I've seen some really nice zoos in other parts of Japan, especially Tama Zoo! I don't know how this zoo could be allowed to keep animals!!!!

@@GreatApesZoo動物園で飼育するということは、その命に対して責任を負うということも意味しているのですよね。「死に直面する方が…」などと勝手な都合で「野性」じみた価値観を持ち込むのは、卑劣だと思わされてしまいます。
チンパンジーたちの前に、大きな文字で「動物園の動物にも死はおとずれます」って看板があります。
そんなこと書かなくても小学生でもわかるでしょう。野生のチンパンジーでも優しい部分があり、そして人間と同じように時として殺し合いにまで発展することもあります。でも、人が勝手に連れてきた狭い動物園の中で、野生のもっとも暗い部分を現実化させる必要性があるわけないですね。
The zoo isn't clean . It needs a thorough cleaning and bedding on the floors . It is so sad to hear about the deaths and poor care !! 😢 Takeru has some nasty looking sores . It is a wonder they haven't gotten infected and Takeru becoming sick from infection. I know this must be very frustrating, watching what goes on on this zoo. 円山の時は相次ぐ動物の死をマスコミも取り上げたので、新しい動物園に生まれ変わる気運も高まったのかなと思います。
旭山は行動展示でまず有名になったため、動物本来の生態を考えてくれている動物園！とメディアも来園者も勘違いして、どれだけ動物が亡くなっても批判されないのかと思いました。
テレビで取り上げられる時はまるで動物に優しい動物園かのように伝えますし。
実際、一般の来園者の方々は旭山のチンパンジーの姿を見ても何も思われないのでしょう。
どれだけ動物が亡くなっているかもご存知ないでしょうし。
ここは動物が亡くなると野性でも同じとやたら仰いますが、野性と動物園を動物園側が同列に語るのは非常に不遜だと思います。
本来の生息地とは違う動物園で生まれ、狭い囲いの中で一生涯を過ごしてもらう代わりに、動物園側は動物に食料と安全を提供しなければいけないはずです。
その安全や動物に対する敬意を欠いた動物園が世間でもてはやされている、JAZAも何も言わない。
絶望しかありません。
とりあえず飼育員さんには大学等で専門のお勉強をしてきた、ちゃんと知識のある方になって頂きたいです。
人事異動で嫌とは言えないお立場も分かりますが、最低限、動物が好きじゃないならこの仕事に就かないで頂きたいです。
頑張っておられる方もいらっしゃると思いますが、上があれでは…。

I am from the USA and have been writing to WAZA, JAZA and AZA for almost 4 years with no responses about the horrid conditions of this zoo, since the babies passing i have spoke to someone at another Japan Facility who is helping me to write to the correct people about this zoo. Ive prayed that Kyoto University will step in again like they did for Lumie Eddie and Mickey, these poor chimps dont deserve this way of treatment. Japan doesnt have many laws pertaining to chimpanzees, that needs to change.

I truly believe that the government of Japan needs to step in and shut this deplorable zoo down and give these poor animals a chance of some quality of life. Far too many deaths are occurring in this place and you wouldn’t keep a human prisoner in these conditions so why are they being allowed to do so with these animals.
Please do something immediately to address this situation before more animals lose their lives
You should be ashamed to show people that they keep the enclosure filthy. Their policies suck in this zoo I'm glad somebody is saying something about it
It's sad. Most of the zoo's in Japan should not have primates. And I know that some of the zoo's love and give great care to their primates. But they are all overcrowded and too poor to give them the type of enclosure that they need. There are a lot of gorillas and chimps that are now becoming adults and they have nowhere to put any of them. You have mother's mating with their own sons, and father's mating with daughters. It is just terrible the way that they do things. This is the reason why most countries won't send animals to Japan.
They look so unhealthy, physically and mentally.
Need a way bigger inside enclosure and a bigger outside enclosure, and better health care ,and bedrooms ,

It's amazing that they're not even ashamed of presenting their zoo to the public like this..... like wtf? This Zoo needs to be shut down along with the Whale and Dolphin mass murdering that goes on in Japan. To me it's the only dark edges of Japan.... I read about this zoo online and I’m afraid I just can’t watch all of this video - it’s just too distressing. It hurts my heart that any animal, let alone animals as intelligent and sensitive as a chimp or an orangutan, should be allowed to suffer in these appalling conditions. There is dried feces stuck to the walls for goodness sake! Zoos should be operated by properly trained zoologists and animal care experts. Local city authorities should not be allowed to set their own policies for the care of exotic animals - especially when the main focus of these municipal bureaucrats is to market the animals as a ‘commodity’ to visitors for money-raising purposes. Those chimps look seriously depressed. It just breaks my heart.

旭山動物園はよく“野生にならい”・“自然のままに”と使いますが、動物園はそもそも人工の施設です。
住まいも食事も人間が用意し、群れの編成も人間が決めてます。
野生に近い環境でもなく、長期間過ごす室内は狭く人工物だらけ…自由の無い中で過ごすチンパンジーたちにはストレスだけがたまるでしょう。
チンパンジー同士のケンカはどの園でも日常的に起こる事ではありますが、旭山チンプに見るケガはケンカの域を超えてます。過剰に攻撃された深い傷、平和なはずの動物園で命懸けで生きている事がわかります。
αピースケから どれだけ酷い攻撃を受けても大ケガさせられても、タケルはピースケを慕う…この酷い環境の中で群れのトップに立つピースケを責める気持ちにはなれません。キャロも同様、全て無責任で都合主義な人間のせいです。
旭山動物園では、動物たちが相次いで亡くなっている。
過去に起こった同様の事故、防ぐことのできた事故も非常に多いです。
来園者からの忠告も聞かず、最悪の結果を招いたり…動物たちの命を軽視し続ける旭山動物園。もっとも この世に存在してはいけない動物園の一つです。
180℃ 方針を変え動物福祉に重きを置く優良動物園に生まれ変わる事が出来ないのなら、1秒でも早く無くなって欲しい動物園です。
勿論、今暮らしている全ての動物の幸せな行き先が確保された上で…

マスメディアが動物園の印象操作をして悪い部分は報道しないこと、ほとんどの日本人は野生動物に関心がないこと、動物園が長年狭い施設に閉じ込めてきたため、動物園もお客もそれが当然と思ってしまっていること、動物虐待の基準が曖昧なこと、そもそも動物園は動物福祉より、はるかに来園者数の増減しか関心がないこと・・・など上げたらきりがないですが。

Good for you, I wish more people would start standing up, and speaking out against the scumbags who either run these places, or at the very least, whoever it is that makes the decisions for these places to ultimately do nothing, or choose profits over the lives involved.
I wish I wasn’t in such bad shape, because most days I get so angry at the state of the world, and really want to do something about it (besides bitching, and complaining) but I just don’t have the energy… and with the amount of things that need to change, it makes way more sense to blow the whole joint to smithereens, and just start over, than to try fixing any of it (and can you believe there are actually people who don’t think there’s anything wrong with the way we live?! It blows my mind to even try to comprehend it, you’d have to have lived in a bunker for 30 years to not see it!)

This is so sad to watch. First, the chimps look so depressed and all that poop smeared on the walls. That shouldn’t be allowed. It should be cleaned every day. Most of the chimps look like they have been through some kind of hell with all the sores and scars over their bodies. Why on earth is this zoo allowed to have animals and be open to the public? We should all get together and bombard the necessary office with letters. God, it’s so disgusting to see how our fellow creatures are being treated.
