I purchased a Standard 60's and play it pretty aggressively over the past year making it appear similar to these. So my aging technique was made in the Wise Guy lab. All natural!
That’s right! Play the shit out of it and save $4000 in the premium for relic jobs. I have the same philosophy, my friend
yeah man - but if you ding your guitar => value goes down 1000 bucks
have Tom Murphy dinging your guitar => value goes up 1000 bucks
..just kiddin - I bet your guitar sounds and looks awesome and I do it the same way ;)
@@67er_matze97 sounds/plays fantastic! I've never been picky so as long as it's playable, it's all good.
@@wiseguy9202 good philosophy - rock on, bro !! 🤟
looks and sounds how a perfect les paul should. 10/10 disregard from the pricing, these are the finest instruments gibson can make, period.
I just ordered the Gold Top Murphy Lab Les Paul...can't wait to get it...
I just went to see the 64 335....blew me away...next thing I knew I was taking it home....its amazing and I'm sure yours will blow you away. They just came in at my local store and they were selling within 1-2 days! Enjoy.
@@michaelmcneal7749 not to sound like a jerk. But, I don't understand the negativity by so many people. "They're too expensive ", "they're just banged-up over priced guitars", etc. etc.. I think most people who are upset about these Murphy Lab guitars simply can't afford them. They feel obligated to piss on everyone else's parade...best Les Paul I have ever played...
@@rdanalytics9197
Prob so....whats crazy is there are soo many options at all price points...I don't know why anyone even bothers complain..other than what you said.
it's like anything in life. You start at a lower level and work your way up. Get an Epiphone when you start out. Save a little money and get a Studio. Once you have that for a while, get a Standard. If you still aren't satisfied, get a Custom Shop. I know guys that play $200 guitars that are way better than me and they are happy playing a cheap guitar. Fine, stick with what you like...I, on the other hand, enjoy high end instruments.
@@rdanalytics9197
Exactly!
I got a 2023 Murphy lab R9 that looks exactly like this one! Same color and top🤘mine is a heavy relic one and I love it!
Gibson is determined to find out how many serial numbers exist which start with a 9.
Very tasteful soloing and guitar work to advertise such a beautiful work of art. Great job!
Great playing Chris. Also compliments to whoever shot the closeups, nice work!
Thanks for the kind words!
Looks and sounds fabulous! As close to the real thing as us mere mortals will ever get....if we sell our car! Great video as always Chris.
Thanks for the kind words, Brian :-)
@@chrisvinnicombeguitar just being honest Chris. You've taken that magazine to another level. Ok, I'll stop there!!
I played a 1960 LP several times over the last few years and I honestly prefer the sound and playability of my modern LP. Now if I was an investor.....
@@wiseguy9202 I can believe that because " a good guitar is a good guitar" regardless of make and year. I'm sure not all 59's were "magical" but I would like to try a few out just to make sure!!
@@briancarter4729 I think much of this craze is a combination of placebo and just knowing how valuable something is.
I bought a 58 "Gloss" Custom so like a new guitar but with all the old specs and woods. Just got to add the wear myself now...
That's the best way if you ask me. It will wear naturally over time.
It’s definitely got some guitar magic . That is much needed .
This a nice one, looks sounds great,, the prices are high though..
You think?
Sweet playing! These guitars are so beautiful. They must be absolutely inspiring to play. I have a 2000 Historic and I absolutely love it to death, but it would be a lot of fun to compare it to what Gibson is putting out now. One thing is certain: Gibson will continue to insist that every year’s version is their best and most historically accurate model yet. That will NEVER end.😉
Oh, and impressive tones coming out of the Kemper. 👍
This is definitely the right person to be advertising this guitar. The other demo that's online is the one with Michael Lemo. This demo is superior to that one.
Looks and sounds good to me!!!
Sounds great! I would rather put my own ware n tare on my own though. It’s like buying a pair of jeans with holes in them lol. The custom shop really has the vintage look down though.
AMAZING!!!
Way to go Chris.
Nice. I also notice a bit of tremolo and reverb coming in. Is that coming from the amps?
what kind of camera did you film this video with? looks amazing!
great series of les paul
price = gibson custom shop + murphy lab (maybe)
Superb
Just here to see the butt hurt comments. It’s started already! Sounds like a nice guitar although you can still see how thick they lay the lacquer on (at the forearm wear). Apart from that it all seems good.
at least they've finally done away with the razor blade checking!
The best guitar are gibson and fender with marshall amps fender amps and Big red sammy hagar crate full stack amp
I haven't ever seen a vintage LP with yellow neck binding..
That’s because the originals had the yellowed lacquer scraped away from the binding on the neck, exposing the white binding. Contrary to popular belief, the lack of lacquer on the neck binding was not the result of “play wear”, and Gibson did this from the factory in order to create a very comfortable rolled edge to the neck. Gibson does not do this right anymore...
My 83 les Paul custom has some yellow aging on the neck biding ..
@@arnonono131 An '83 Les Paul Custom is a far cry from a '59 sunburst Les Paul Standard...
@@Dagger_323 Explain me why ? The fabrication process (especialy on the binding) of 59 LP's are known to be less good than in the 52-55 period and the norlin period. 58's 59's 60's are a selling argument since the 1990's.
But I still let you explain to me why if I don't get the point
@@Dagger_323 Oh and we talking aboud "vintage LP", it seems that even an 83 LP Custom is a vintage
I get a camel toe every time I look at that guitar.
Did they nail the tone probably my 59 Standard historic sounds amazing, but in this vid we will never know how close they got with all them digital effects spewing more artefacts than what what lara croft and indiana jones could ever hoarde
The nerve, playing that guitar with rings on!
Yep, it definitely sounds like a guitar
It would be nice if they aged the metal hardware! You have a nicely aged body/ neck but the hardware looks like brand new…😳
they do but doesn't become noticeable until you get to light and up on the relic scale, ultra-light has some aging but you have to look closer
I had a guy offer me way less than what I was asking because of a few war wounds and signs of wear on a sweet Les Paul,,,so tell me the difference...other than a stupid sales gimmick
Another over priced Les Paul. Great playing.
Greco EGC-1000 or Burny FLG-90 will do me fine!
Ahh didums get a better paying job rather than whinging about it
@@DarrenJohnson1973 ...
@@DarrenJohnson1973 ok, thanks for that.
it sounds good and looks good. but there is literally no reason to buy one if you already have a nice Collector's Choice, True Historic, or frankly even a regular production run R9/R8/R0. the pickups and harness will still need to be replaced. if you dont already have one, and you find one that you personally really bond with, sure, but man Gibson is boring these days. I want to know who all needs Gibson and Fender to keep pumping out all of these guitars. Not like that many folks can afford guitars like these...
If you equate Gibson now pumping quality instruments out like this as 'boring' then I couldn't disagree more. FINALLY they are pumping out some real, high end quality stuff especially the Custom Shop and now Murphy Lab! They literally can't win can they? Previous management had so much criticism for stuff like the robot tuners, whacky silk screen logos, weird colours, spilt coils, weight relived bodies...and rightly so. They have gone back to basics, back to their roots producing PROPER Les Pauls now...straight up good ole' fashioned rock machine Les Pauls that we all know and love without any gimmicks...if that makes them boring, then I love them being boring and I hope they continue to be boring!
@@deltafit uh hello gibson custom shop has been making the guitars "properly" since 2014 and even that requires some squinting. everything you mentioned was Gibson USA shenanigans and had no bearing on the people buying CS guitars. none.
these guitars are materially not different than the stuff they were making last year. and theyre still not "properly high end", that would be Bartlett, Yaron, etc. this is still a high production volume guitar.
and the "rock machines" werent bursts, they were Norlins, which were objectively not very good guitars but they are the sounds on the records given how few bursts there really were.
@@TCMx3 what do you mean they weren't the rock machines? So many classic records made and shows played with those guitars
@@dumbdickler670 that's survivorship bias. there werent that many bursts, and most of rock records werent classics (in fact most werent even very good). in the historical context, the classic les paul is a Norlin and the classic marshall is a metal panel, despite the fact that today everyone cares about bursts and plexis (and I dont disagree they are better)
@@TCMx3 I had some essay typed up here originally for some reason. Original bursts are rock machines, plain and simple. Norlin Les Pauls are more common throughout history but that doesn't mean the original Les Pauls aren't rock machines. Yes, not all rock records were good, obviously, but there were still many great records recorded with original Les Pauls
Why don’t people just play them and naturally age them themselves !!. Too many tarts just talking about aesthetics rather than playing and enjoying !!.
but what if the player enjoys more worn out guitar than a brand new shiny one, but cant spend 250k on a 59 les paul.
@@diddymies just play the bloody thing and you’ll get natural wear & tear.
@@nobb1euk1 how about this: you buy a brand new shiny guitar and play the hell out of it to get the aging you want. Other people find an already broken-in guitar more inspiring than a shiny glossy new guitar that they have to play for years to get it to the level they want. So let them buy and play what inspires them, and you do the same. Everybody’s happy.
@@Dagger_323 "well actually everybody should think the way I do"
@@dumbdickler670 that’s kind of the entire mindset that I’m criticizing...
Damn, I feel sorry for the guy. Now he cant afford shoelaces after he bought an extremely expensive beat up new old new guitar.
Top carve around the switch and below the guard is completely wrong. Same old Gibson BS...
£6000+++..... Not worth it. Eastman SB59 V is a better guitar, better aged and less than £2000, also hand carved/made. These gibsons are still cnc milled, not hand made
Eastman made in Covid land ooops sorry China end of discussion.
Sure. Doesn’t change the fact that the Eastmans are better guitars at less than 1/3 of the price. Maybach make a better guitar at a third of the price of the cheapest Murphy Gibson, again..... hand made. If you want to shell out from £6000 to £11 000 for the heavy aged, be my guest. Btw..... Quality control at Gibson is still rated worst of major manufacturers... lol

This is so stupid ! Here in the USA...$10'000 on up for old looking Guitar?? Come on!! Do you order a Jaguar F car or a 2021 Corvette and tell the salesman...'I want the NEW car with Patina, scratched, worn in look" ? Just so STUPID... Guitar manufacturers builds them and doctors, lawyers buy them!!
Why does it bother you so much. If it's not for you then don't worry. Either way nothing in this video will affect your life. You are paying for the craft just as you are paying chevrolet for the engineering.
@@therangersinger I have many Gibson's etc...it's the price point. The profit margin that they make. Have you considered that? As an American I'm all for free markets. But you exclude many at these prices. Will you buy one?
@ just because it is a guitar produced by a company that has most of its products at a relatively attainable price point doesn't mean it is wrong for them to offer another product produced in a much different manner. At a higher price point that many will not consider or be able to afford. It is ok they do that. Profit margin is profit margin. Even at a greater margin they aren't going to lower it because you can't afford it. It just not for you. That doesn't mean it is stupid.
@@therangersinger I'm looking into the price. Gibson has actuaries who calculate what percentage realm they can cover in their profit margin spread. That's one point. The other, next time you order or buy a brand new car tell the dealership you want a worn in, patina, used look with organge peel on your new, old stock, car.
@ that association doesn't work. You can't compare new cars to reliced guitars 😂😂😂😂. Please stop trying to prove points to me sir. I honestly don't care. Have a good one. You are interupting my guitar playing.....on a reliced guitar no less.
