Hope someone can help. I bought the Boss system and the model for passive units. I wasn't told there was a difference for passive or active basses. Both my basses are active. I use a Musician 5 and an Ibanez 5 fretless and they work fine at home but playing anywhere else, I get little losses of transmission. i can see the blue light going on and off. Do you think that this problem can be the result of using the passive Boss unit with an active guitar? Its driving me nuts and the last 3 gigs, I have had to go back to cable.
every time you use the units you have to rebind them so they can search out free channels to use one place to another is always different so you have to always rebind to get a clear channle
I've been considering buying a set for home use. Do you notice any differences in tone between the boss and xvive versus cable and do walls seem to block the signals of either unit?
Was informative I agree, So thank you also Kevy. I found about 10 sets of the WL20L for sale on Reverb 5 minutes ago Steve, if you didn't want to wait. FYI.
fade2blacker Hey,thx for the heads up.I also saw them on Reverb, but Sweetwater gave me a good price on the unit plus no tax an free shipping. And it’s not something I need immediately. Thx again.
I just rec'd my WL-20 this weekend. I've only played with it a short amount of time but what I notice is that it is very noisy. There is a significant high freq hum. I've tried both my Parker Fly Deluxe and my Gibson L130 through different amps. The noise persists. Have you noticed this and if so have you found a fix? Thanks
are you using active pups because that can cause noise 100% , the WL-20 is not compatiable with active pups however boss has a set that is compatiable with active pups.. i have not had any noice problems at all as i also do not own any guitars with active pups in them ,, other then perhaps my acoustics but they are not the same sort of system as a standard active pup so you wont have problems with acoustic electric guitar with the WL-20 and i have no noise with them either .. other wire gear can interfear as well so you can try rebinding the units as well they must be bound each time you unhook them from your gear...
The WL20 receiver don't need to be plugged in to an outlet and that is a big advantage for me. I have the G10 but lately I'm having tons of drop outs and I'm planing to buy the Boss.
you can use the boss on any amp or pa system you want to .....i have now been using just the boss sytem now sence my first video went up on them and they are even the best stage use system i have used yet as well and never one problem with them i also use them in the studio as well and they have done me well and still do ill never go to any other wireless system again unless its boss even my home and stage and studio amp is now just the boss katana 100 watt 1x12

Hello.I’m looking for a wireless system for my acoustics. Taylor 815ce with the ES2 pickups 9v and an Ovation W/Fisman pickup system 9v. Are these considered Active or preamped.I’m not sure of the difference.I was looking into the Vive but reviews state not good with Active...You mentioned Boss may have a system that will work..I’ll look into that. Any input from you would be appreciated, thx
i have used the Xvives on all my acoustic electric guitars and they are fine the boss system thats out now is 100 times better then the Xvives tho for only a few dollars more i own the new boos ones ,, you dont need an active pickup wireless system for an acoustic electric guitar that active stuff only aplies to solid body andother guitars with active pups,, the regular acoustic guiarts are not a problem with xvive.. boss has 3 versions of there wireless systems but you dont need the boss active pickup wireless system for your acoustic electric guitar just that standard set is fine.. out worship leader plays acoustic as well and he uses the same boss system i do and no problems at all ..
Kevys Rc & Music Thank you for the reply.I really appreciate it.I did watch your whole video before you replied but I wasn’t sure of the difference between active and preamped guitars. Based on your review I like the idea of the Boss unit. It looks like the Boss would work on my Ovation and my Taylor 815. I also have a Martin D28 with K&K passive pickup and a Taylor T5z which I think uses the same electronics as the 815ce..I just watched your video again and realized you explained the difference btw active and preamped.Thank you again..
According to the tech at L.R. Baggs I discussed this with, acoustic guitars with built-in preamps, particularly endpin preamps, have a noise / interference problem with these 2.4 Ghz systems. As a temp work-around, they advise using a small right-angle standoff between the transmitter and the guitar body. Some others here in UA-cam have also mentioned doing this for the noise problem.
@@dpcustom i have 4 acoustic electric guitars and no problem with any of them with boss wireless and no problems on any of my elecrtrics either, they do make a set for active pickups as well that might workout better on some acouctic guitars as for the xvive you seen the video
Having owned two Xvive U2 systems, I can confidently say I would not trust them live. There’s always interference. It’s slight but it’s there. Xvive have also confirmed that they don’t work with active pickups so if you have them working, consider yourself lucky. Also, wait until you need customer support. It’s terrible. I would go line 6 G10 every day of the week. I hate the mini USB charging cable as it can break but there are ways around that. The G10 is just flawless in terms of connection and tone.
i auctually have had 3 sets of xvives and i now use the new boss system and the Xvives are not compatiable with active pups other then the ones found i n acoustics they seem fine but not regular electrics or bass;s with active pups ,,
I did try the Boss WL-20 that a buddy bought and was quite impressed. I did notice some slight interference but it was in a loud jam space. I still want to try it though. Xvive also released an XLR wireless solution. I am not confident in their U2 system but I am tempted to try the mic one.

I bought the boss wl20. Worked great for about 3 weeks and then started doing a lot of dropping out. Even after I recalibrated them. I took it back to the store and they gave me another one. Thanks very much for this review, and thanks to everyone who has commented. This review, and others, and the comments here and elsewhere have convinced me to reject my initial idea of getting the Xvive's in favour of buying the Boss units. The only reservation I have about the Boss is that they are a bit clunky, and will stick out of certain guitar models, and might get in the way of adjusting volume and tone controls.
your welcome the boss are the better ones to go with i have had no problems with mine and neither has our worship leader when we both played with the boss systems together..
@@KevinMillard68 Thanks very much for your reply. I have ordered the Boss WL-20s (from Long & McQuade), and am very excited to get them. The main criticism I have read of these is that the 1/4" plug (shaft) is not long enough for some guitars, and the little button on the shaft, where it meets the plastic, that needs to be depressed sometimes cannot be depressed because the shaft is too short. People seem to be getting around this by sliding a washer up to the button so that it pushes on the button when pushed into the guitar's jack socket.
Just picked up the WL20,. Love it. You answered my questions concerning the Xvive and Boss,. Cheers 👍
awesome and congrats
