- Joseph Eloi speaks as third opposition of the motion in the Debating Chamber on Thursday 9th May 2024.
It’s the year of the Paris Olympics, Paralympics and the European Football Championship, and questions of sport are at the forefront of the zeitgeist. In the third debate, we consider the role of sportspeople and events within political discourse. Should sport act as a unifying force for those of different backgrounds? Should political actors be universally removed from the sporting world? Do individuals and institutions with cultural power have the same duty and license to tackle inequality and political questions?

Wow! What an incredible speech!
'Count the number of black people'...yeah point out the skin colour....MLK Jr. 'I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character'.
Football is a meritocracy. Politics has nothing to do with it and shouldn't have anything to do with it.
"No one to look up to"... because they weren't openly gay?
"one of the smartest, young, politically engaged rooms on the planet" .... there's a dim race baiting bulb on one side i see.
Haha MLK’s whole speech was about how black people are oppressed in America, all he did was point out skin colour. What a moronic take from you
Haha all MLK did in his speech speak about skin colour and how black pple in the US are oppressed. You clearly did not listen to the speech.
Are you slow? MLK spoke about race all the time, that was the whole point.
@@dron55786 @7:35 why mention race? Football and American football are both meritocratic. Parliament is representative and the colour of someone's skin shouldn't be an issue. This guy's been indoctrinated into victimhood. He probably thinks anti racism is a good thing.
