You are THE MAN. Didn’t even have a triangle file, but used the corner of a half round. That plus a little bit of torch action did the job. Thank you for sharing, made a huge difference for me.
I was preparing to buy new 3 way handle. Valve seat was rounded out and couldn't remove it. Thank God I decided to look on UA-cam for hacks to get this out. You saved me a lot of time and money. I was happier than a kid at Christmas when it started to turn.
You are the only video that gave me hope. I had two quotes from plumbers around $700 for parts and labor to change the whole valve. Decided to go all in. First the blow torch, then penetrating oil for an hour and then the hack saw to make four deep slots, then opened up the slots with a small flat file. Gave the seat tool a couple of love taps to make sure it was seated in the new slots and out it came. What a relief. I work on cars too, and your video gave me the courage to go all in. I was already dealing with the worst case scenario (replacing the valve), so what did I have to lose
Mine is completely stuck and I stripped the 4 notches and it rounded out. I will try filing the deep grooves when I get the energy to try again. Right now its all back together (its obviously hard to turn the valve now because it got so mangled) so I can shower but will try again and be prepared for a replacement of the whole valve body if I fail. Thanks for sharing!
Well there are parts being sold on ebay and amazon and keep in mind on the cold seat I don't know if there is a difference between the Ta-4, Ta-9, Ta-10 and there might be more. But the notches on the cold seat are not all same with all these different model numbers. So using the tool doesn't work on all of them OR maybe some of these being made in China and sold universally through ebay and others. Basically Chinese defects. So you might have this common of the tool NOT working on all of the cold seats.
I work at a hotel as an engineer. Thanks for the video it saved my night.
Glad it helped!

Thank you for getting straight to it! Crossing my fingers it works!

I am just glad I’m not alone on this issue
Damn Boston Joe i wish you could have walked us through the actual nightmare while it was taking place.

This helped a lot with mine. Had to the same thing for the hot one as well.
EZ out bit for a 3/4 pipe takes those stuck seats out...
Thank you
This was so helpful
I did this and recommend it.
Thanks!!!
