    This was one of my moms favorite bedding annuals along with large flowered bulb begonias. She grew them June to fall in leaf mold she collected from the woods. That was up near Lynden at the Canadian border! I love the colors you are show casing. I want to plant a hanging basket of them in my mom's honor. Thanks for the video. Very timely.

    I always thought impatiens were really plain looking with weird primary colored flowers until this year when I discovered New Guinea impatiens. The colors are more interesting, especially the variety in leaf colors. The shape is more visually appealing as well. I’m now an impatiens fan lol

    Hey Jeff, You can plant Impatiens in a water garden or stream. I grew them in the biofalls of the pond at the greenhouse I work at last year and they got huge! The aerated water rich in nutrients probably helped a lot. There was sweet potato vine in there too which completely grew out of control!

      @TropicalPlantParty  6 років тому +3

      They love clean moving water! I also had mine in a biofalls last year and it went crazy! I think that is so fun cool that you are learning so much working at the propagation facility!

      Hey Jeff,
      Sorry I couldn’t respond sooner, I’ve been sooo busy with work and my side business, Do they need more sun when grown in water? Yes, I love how much I’ve learned at work too!

    I love these, but here in louisiana every space in my yard seems to give them too much sun. Its not a water problem. They recover when they get in afternoon shade, but it is only JUNE. Will they make August or do I need to find another place for them?

    • @TropicalPlantParty
      @TropicalPlantParty  5 років тому +4

      Is there anyway to shade them? Otherwise moving them might be a good idea. Mine get wilty in the afternoon when it is really hot outside and bounce back once the sun is off of them. Ideally they wouldn't do that though, means they aren't situated appropriately.

    New Guinea hybrids are very thirsty. Even with a self watering pot, i find I have to water them every second day.

    Do the fully grown beautiful impatiens flowers 'always' fall off themselves? They randomly fall to the ground yet they appear in great shape, not wilted. Do they just fall to make enough nutrition for the budding flowers not yet open?

    I find it to be very expensive every year, as I love flowers, especially iui ally the New Guinea impatiens. Is there a way to save seeds to plant for next year?

    • @bonniemechefske3838
      @bonniemechefske3838 2 роки тому

      You can dig it up and bring it inside. Get a grow light if you dont have a sunny spot inside. Aerogarden makes one with legs that you can just set over top. If you want more than one plant for the spring you can literally cut off stems, plant them in smaller pots inside for the winter (as above) and by spring you'll have a whole new net of plants ready to go. In my experience, most seeds saved from new guinea impatiens from my local big box stores are not viable. But maybe it's just me.

    Mine are part shade . Beginning there were a lot of flowers and now none. Otherwise fine. What did/didn't I do to stop the flowering?

    • @TropicalPlantParty
      @TropicalPlantParty  5 років тому +3

      When they stop flowering that often means they need some more sunlight.

    I have a double impatient and it's dropping it's buds. I have it in the shade and don't get morning sun. Wondering if I should place it in an area where it gets some sun during the day or evening?

    • @TropicalPlantParty
      @TropicalPlantParty  6 років тому +2

      Yes, I would give it some more sun, if it is in the afternoon then filtered, like under a tree would be best. :)

    Hi I just bought and planted in pots some new Guini infinity blushing lilac and after three days they are limping over like dying the are planted in the front of the house
    Where they get 8 hours of direct sun
    Can a you help

    • @TropicalPlantParty
      @TropicalPlantParty  3 роки тому

      Hello! New Guinea Impatiens do not like full sun in most climates, it is usually hard to keep them hydrated with that kind of exposure. Sometimes putting them on drip irrigation can allow them to push through and take more sun than they otherwise could tolerate. I like to give them bright morning sun, for around 4 to 6 hours and shaded light in the hot afternoon sun. I have had them do ok with more light than that, but it took a lot of watering to get them through it.

    Get your hand out of the shot, it is distracting with the exception of an occasional fluffing up to show off a flower or leaf. Best regards.
