EDM - Stable & Unstable burn examples

- This video shows examples of a stable EDM "burn" as well as what a shorted and very unstable EDM "burn" is like. I am using an "RC" power supply in this video but the Pulse type EDM power supply should sound and respond similar to what is shown here.

Wow! This is the famous Ben, I found your video by chance, great work!
As you said ,as you said, hearing with ears, this is a student aged sixty from India. Thank you teacher, are you using igbt for frequency oscillations. Please guide me sir. Alangarampillai Nagarajan from India.
In this EDM no switch transistor/FETS. In the pulse version design there are Power Mosfets that are switched ON/Off. www.homebuiltedmmachines.com/purchasing-books-and-starter-kits/
boa noite, Ben! preciso saber se colocar sua placa para funcionar posso cortar um inox de 10 cm? um furo de diamentro de 10 cms e comprimento de 25cm. sou do Brasil
You could do it but it would be a very slow process. EDM is NOT fast and should be used when other machining process will not accomplish the task. Two examples for using EDM would be squaring the corners inside pocket and/or machining extremely hard or difficult to cut metals.
Hello, I bought a set and assembled it. The automatic maintaining of the distance works but does not work, that is, it goes down and does not go up with a spark. If you switch the movement up and turn the variable resistor so that it does not move, close the power wires, then the top moves
If it is wired correctly it will function as shown in the video. There are 100 of these EDM build and operating around the world. It Sounds like the motor driver chip has failed for some reason.
@@homebuiltedmmachines9471 Could you watch the video and tell me what is wrong? ua-cam.com/video/0cTo0DMIAmQ/v-deo.html . When closing when moving down does not go up . If it goes up (red LED) at a certain position R33 goes up when the electrode is closed
What kind of voltages are involved in doing this? Are they dangerous?
Edit: Guess I'll find out, I just ordered your first book and a bare PCB! If all goes well with that I'll probably take a crack at building the pulse EDM. Ever think about designing a home built wire EDM?
I need to help with the development and analysis of a generator for micro-EDM in an internship.
What kind of generator do you use? And do you have any literature suggestions for me to read up on?
I am more interested in understanding the inner workings of such generators and the impact of the process parameters on the workpiece. By now I have a basic understanding how burns work and what influences them but I still need to figure out how to find the ideal parameters for a given workpiece without damaging it.
What is the voltage used? I see 20 volts on the meter?
The burn voltage is usually around 25-45 VDC. Open circuit voltage at beginning of the video is 75VDC

With great care and skill :)
sir what mosfet are u using in that amplifier
Great job!!
Where is possible to buy this machine?
It is not possible to purchase the machines pre-built but you may build one here is a link to the web site where plans and PCB's are available.

hello
did you make the machine sir?
hello, sir, can u tell what was the frequency of the machining pulse you used and how did u measure the voltage at that frequency I am doing a project on EDM machine it would be very helpful thank you
Jaswanth The Longest ON time for the Pulse machine is 200 microseconds the shortest time is about 12 microseconds. I keep the OFF time as short as possible and still maintain a stable arc. The Max OFF time setting is around 50 microseconds.Voltage reading are average and taken with an analog meter. If you really want to know the voltages us and O-scope.
Tnx for the replies
gostei como posso adquirir os circuitos para montar pra mim?
Hey ive read your book. it really helped me get an idea of whats what with ram EDM. im planning on building my own unit to make molds. i want to get into plastic injection molding as a hobby. are you still into this? i see this vid is from three years ago. any plans of making any more vids?
Still around check out my website for more information

glad to see you are still around. and thanks for the quick reply.
@@Zaku186 did you build you machine ?
hi, just wondering. does your machine really work on like 3 volt? or there are a multiplicator factor like x10 (30v)?
i currently build a EDM drill out of a MOT, arduino.. etc
people on the net seem to all say around 60 to 80 volt. i ended up with 75.2v on the MOT.
NO it does not work on 3volts, it is X10. Open circuit for this machine is about 75/VDC
@@homebuiltedmmachines9471 thanks for the reply, well.. that make sense
but it could have really been ~3 volt. from a document ive read couple of years ago. and i think it came from research from a university or something like that. they were stating that EDM process could go as low as 2v, other documents ive found also sugest voltage as high as 200v.
i was experiencing alot of heat issue with the MOT, couple of minute IDLE and it was running very hot, put 2 MOT with the primary connected in serie and that solved the problem.
also went ahead and built 6 coil with voltage like so 5v + center tap 2.3v, 5v, 10v, 20v, 40v, 80v. this will allow me to select voltage from 2.3v to ~160v.
@@jackl2254hello
did you build the pulse generator for a drill
i'm building one also
@@AhmedMohamed-yj3kt yes this is for a EDM drill/sinker. work really well manualy and the selectable voltage is great. i work on the stepper/arduino code etc at the moment.
Can you give me your email
Actually in the unit shown no mosfet's are use
oh k . in the signal generator that I am building I am using an arduino microcontroller and connected it to a IRF 540N mosfet which i am using to amplify my signal from 5V to 12v and 10A signal when I brought the tool closer to the workpiece the sparking did not take place can u tell me what might have gone wrong
