I wish I could hear the Doctor's explanation... but I learned a bit about this in eighth grade, so I can tell you guys this: In a short sighted person, the eyeball is longer so the light coming in doesn't quite hit the right spot at the back of the eyeball. This makes it so the image isn't in focus. This is corrected with a concave lens which bends the light slightly so it hits the right spot in your eye. :)

i think what the doc was saying was, the contact lens cant go DIRECTLY behind the eyeball. because there is the optic nerve connecting the eyeball to the brain. so its kinda like a 'blockage' to the cont.lens. our clens does move ard, but there are various mechanisms in place, like inducing tears and blinking to finally bring it back to the original position. hope this helps =)

this isn't the doc's explenation but my own , you're near-sighted bcuz your eyeballs are long , so you're lens is stretched too , so when the light comes to your lens , and the lens is supposed to turn it and let it hit the retina ( the place where the image is formed in you eyes ) the lens would be too long and that doesn't let the image reach the retina , which is why you have an unclear image :) hope that helped :))

@SweetSanctuary it has nothing to do with when it started, i used to see clearly until i became 12 but it's because your eyes adjust themselves to give you the best picture they can through accomodation which is a muscle in your eyes that makes your lens bigger/smaller and also keeps your eyeballs' shape. But when you tire them they either loosen or crimp together which changes your eyeballs' shape.
one thing i forgot to mention was: if you're wearing glasses now, don't wear them all the time but ONLY WHEN IT'S REAAALLLLY NEEDED ! the reason is: i started wearing glasses when i was 12, back then i only had a -0,25 and now, 4years later i have a -6.0 and that's because the glasses takes part of the accomodation muscle's function and changes the image's location in your eyes so your accomodation lense relax and would again change shape and the longer you wear the glasses the more it changes.

I know ur answer is kinda old but mayb u could answer my question. What if your not nearsighted until ur older? I had good vision until I was 19 noticed I had trouble reading road signs and doc said I was near sighted w/ slight astigmatism. Did my eyes decide to randomly change shape, or did I just not notice till then? Plus my sight has also worsened in the last year nothing drastic just enough to adjust my prescription.
and then the other question is O, because if one eye is a lot more worse than the other, then you'll use the better eye more than the worse eye, and that'll cause lazy eye or some other illness where the eyes aren't used as much...i feel like such a nerd.

Yes, it's frustrating because now, i can't do anything without glasses. All i see are colors so i have to wear my glasses all the time but that means that my eyes will keep getting worse with the time :/
