I have worked with zebras trained to work in harness, but never under saddle. Over the years I have been told by that Zebras are too stubborn to be trained to be ridden; Zack is proof that it can be done. Great work!
I don't think this really shows the miracles of what you have accomplished. I hope people realize how amazing this is. Getting him to go through the shying fringes and step onto the blue tarp without a care had to be a real journey! You are truly the Zebra Whisperer. And to see you touch his hindquarters and his muzzle and mouth. People may not realize what an incredible trust you have built with this lovely animal. Congrats and thanks for sharing it with us.

I am just imagining what would happen if you took Zach into a show.... Judges: O_O I love zebras!
Guys, this zebra clearly enjoys this, and it is practically a horse. None of your are zebra experts, and neither am I, but its cute and shows a good relationship between rider and zebra :)
Maria Farwagi No, it really doesn't. Lmfao. It doesn't make sense at all with what you said. Why? Because a zebra would not "PRETEND". -facedesk 1000000000 times-
+Maria Farwagi Because its instinct is to get anything off their back, they're wild animals. If a wild horse or zebra was attacked by a predator, the most likely place it would attack is on its back. It's not going to bloody "pretend" then, is it? No, and it's exactly the same with this video. If it felt uncomfortable or didn't like what it had to do, he wouldn't "pretend" to enjoy it. He'd damn well be throwing her off and trying to get away. No animal is going to "pretend" you moron, it's either actually enjoying it or it's been abused and can't fight back. This zebra has clearly NOT been abused.
People who are saying "People shouldn't ride zebras" are wrong in my opinion. This zebra isn't being hurt or forced to do anything. He looks perfectly happy, and the rider is very respectful while riding him.
That is clearly a Zebra and not any kind of painted horse, even a Fjord, whilst it has a similar mane, it does not resemble the body shape in the slightest. Check out "Grants Zebras" on google, you'll see :)
@@Elizabac my uncle buyed a parrot from the zoo i think you have small chance of Getting some animals from zoo but you must ask the owner of the zoo. Idk
EquiiSpirit acually it's not always true...I love animals, but I would never ride a zebra...maybe I would let small kids trie to ride a zebra, because of the small weight, but not a teenager or an adult...they aren't ment to be riden by a human... (I know my English is not so good...)
no they are concerned because there is so much information out there about why zebra's shouldnt be ridden due to their spines being completely different to horses.
You like it or not the zebra is not being abused he is properly trained. For those who say she is too big for him:She is on the limit, even if she weights more in the future it won't matter she will just have to low down the obstacles and gallop at the minimum rate possible.Just cause a rider is too big for a horse/zebra doesn't necessarely make it painfull,so please keep that in mind when judging others cause you don't know more than they do.The zebra is not being abused zebras are not obbeying animals and they don't accept leaders the zebra can bite her kick her and buck while being ridden thats why some people don't get zebras cause they are used to leadership commands whips and spurs they don't expect the horse to react and definately not to refuse.Keep seing comments saying poor thing what is this you'll ask.Its a cute video of a girl being happy with her zebra its not animal abuse for all these "horse experts"(sarcasm)commenting.Zebras are not smarter/dumper than horses just with the proper training they can make great horses/pets zebras are not for everyone especially the ones that can only train horses the typical way(whip and yields) zebras should be owned only from experienced to clicker training riders.I've seen so many videos with clicker training and all I can say is that I am proud of those people that would never hit their horse I know I am changing titles now but having a zebra is not having a wild animal is having a domestic animal theres a difference yes zebras should not perform riding that's for horses ex.dressage/barrel racing their bones are the same but they don't move the same way I am not any kind of a zebra expert but seing ignorant people commenting is unhealthy yeah that's right others play games and believe they know from horses others keep calling this animal abuse but they abuse their own horse. If you took a close look at his facial responds you'd see that his is calm and happy and a little bored so his is not suffering.PLEASE IF YOU AGREE WITH ME REPLIE TO MY COMMENT I'D BE HAPPY TO SEE THAT SOMEONE UNDERSTANDS WHAT'S UP WITH THIS VIDEO
I agree with you, I imagine though that a Zebra, while of the equine family would be a great deal harder to train than a normal horse that has been domesticated over so many years! :) I'm still laughing that people don't believe that this is a Zebra though...Learn your animals, guys! xD
pinto lover Btw a horse has been bred to carry shit on its back and a zebra has just been living its life, running so people shouldn't be riding zebras so it would be technically animal abuse because the zebra is being forced to do something that only a small amount of others have done
They do share common body language. A wolf and dog and extremely distant from each other, but they're still each canines, and share the same body language, just as horses and zebras and donkeys (all equines) do.
The Zebra's bone structure and muscularity is more similar to that of a horse rather than a pony, despite measuring as a pony. You'll see the same thing with icelandic horses. So she's not too tall for him. You're just thinking of the Zebra as a pony.
Eve James A pony's skeletal and muscular structure is different from a horse. A zebra may be as tall as a large pony, but its more similar to a horse in strength. Same thing with a Fjord horse. A Fjord is the size of a large pony, but has the strength and endurance as a normal horse.
a few comments are saying 'your not supposed to ride zebras' or 'there not built for it'? horses weren't ever meant to be ridden. zebras, donkeys and horses are connected, your complaining about riding a zebra? what about camels? or elephants? non of them were meant to be ridden but we still do! :)
i love how you smiled after you said that they arent meant to ride them but we still do. you much a sick kind of person to be happy knowing that an animal shouldnt be ridden but they are still forced to be ridden. yuck. you disgust me
qwert young you are literally too stupid to insult. have a great day sweetie pie. sending all my love from up above. ps. alien planet wants you to go f$#k yourself. please never visit, or send cards.
That is a beautiful zebra!!! Zack looks like he is having fun when you are riding him he seems so sweet and adorable. Its amazing you taught him to jump you are a very skilled rider too! ☼
Actually, that's not true. It's down to training and though I'm the first to admit she has done marvellous job of training him. However she's evidently too large for him, which causes me to question whether or not she should be riding him at all. No pony of that size would be ridden by a woman of her size. I'm no authority on zebras, but I know other equines very well and I look at that video and find myself incredibly concerned for the zebra.
If you opt to ride a mule for rent down the Grand Canyon, they will tell you in no uncertain terms if you are too big for a mule. I believe total weight, including 30 lb. saddle can not exceed 200 lbs. You see Americans all over the west torturing poor animals by forcing them to bear their overweight butts.
I agree. She is too big for him. The zebra is a nice size in all but zebras are incredibly dangerous, and there backs aren't very good with lots of weight.( She did do a good job of training him;)
I disagree. Horses or any kind like it act up, sometimes it’s due to the rider, sometimes the horse is young and is being trained and makes mistakes. Horses only misbehave because they feel what you feel or the are learning something new.
Loving all the zebra experts on UA-cam ;) Right if this is so harmful to his spine or whatever, why does he look happy and is willing to jump this??? And don't say "He was tortured into it."
I would just like to state that all animals were wild, before tamed, and domesticated. So using that as your argument is pointless. Also, horses' backs are not meant for the weight of a rider, either, but we as humans do lots of ground work, and conditioning to strengthen the animal, so that we don't hurt them. Naturally, the zebra's back is going to get stronger, and stronger, developing more muscles as it grows, and is worked. And stop making the comment that she is too tall for Zack. Battleship, the first american bred, and trained horse to win the Grand National was only 15 hands. Bruce Hobbs, the jockey who steered him to victory, was well over 6 feet tall. This girl is obviously not heavy, and english tack isn't either. She only has basic tack on the zebra, not anything else. This is not animal cruelty. She obviously loves this zebra, and the zebra obviously loves her, too. If the animal was in pain, trust me, he'd make it clear. Horses, and horse related animals will always let you know if they are not happy, or are in pain. If you were knowledgeable, you'd see that this girl is making Zack jump at the base of the fence, which makes him use his hind end, AND his back. That takes lots of muscle, and if he were in pain, he wouldn't be able to do that at basically a stand still. And, would you all quit saying "That poor thing can barely walk!" Umm, excuse me? She's not making him go any faster. Zebras in the wild are very fast, but if they are being tackled by a predator, they will use their strength to get away. Sometimes, it's not enough, though. So quit saying that zebras are not strong. Zebras are very hardy animals, so are horses. The majority of you all arguing about this have no knowledge of what you're actually saying, so just be quiet. Please.
Please do more research on zebras diaphragms, anatomies and spinal placement. They are actually very different to horses. Regardless of how much muscle gain you could work up on a zebra it wouldn't mean that they could handle more weight than a pony or the same height. And if you are an animal lover as you claim why are you so angry at people commenting about their concerns for the wellbeing of the zebra. You should be glad that people are speaking up for animals there are a lot of abused animals out their daily that no one cares about. It's good to see people standing up against animal abuse in general don't you think. If you had anything intelligent to add to this conversation you would have. But all I see if an angry women who is more concerned for some reason that the zebra gets ridden rather than making sure that the zebra is comfortable and cared for... and using arguments such as... horses can, or he's not going fast or the zebra obviously loves her. those statements are not facts based... thus you are absolutely NO better than the people you slandered in your comment.. embarassing Jacqueline.
Meelis Matt And you are basing your “the zebra was fine” statement on what knowledge exactly? Do you know how sensitive a zebras spine is? Do you know what the long term effects are on this animal from carrying too heavy a person? No. I am going to guess you don’t but worse and more importantly... you don’t care. You are more concerned about the “cute redhead...”which I am sure is more than likely a 50 year old obese man sitting behind a computer screen. So... enjoy that thought.
I love seeing comments that say leave the wild animals alone. For all people who know about horses, there is only one wild horse left because of humans. You don't think that when we put zebras in zoos that we're harming then (because they're not endangered), but when we start riding one, it's all "that's cruel!". The zebra isn't trying to run away or anything, so keep your "animal expertice" to yourself.
just because it can doesnt mean it should. and long term this weight on this zebras back will cause terrible damage. and put in a world of pain, shorten it's life etc.
te aorangi Zebras can actually carry the same amount of weight as horses :)) the girl doesn’t even look heavy (but she looks quite tall) so the Zebra will be fine
@@zainemiller7597 Don’t think so, you can’t ride a zebra in the same way as a horse but you can ride them safely. They shouldn’t be used in the same was as a regular horse regardless of discipline because they are not the same as horses
A zebra has a different spine to a horse, a horse has a narrow spine and a zebra has a floating spine and its not good to ride a zebra unless you are small and thin. But you are REALLY good!!!
So what about donkeys? They have the same conformation as zebras and no one complains? You can get special fitting donkey saddles with are also suitable for zebras
Does he look hurt? He wouldn't do it if it was hurting him. He looks happy to do it, and you can tell he has a bond with the rider. God, get a life people!
Yo really don’t know riding do you? *He wouldn’t do it if it was hurting him* Oh my fucking Jesus, it’s cruel I know but they don’t have a point they must trust me.
Sophie & Carmen and you clearly don’t know zebras do you? Before acting like you’re all so mighty, do some research. Zebras are part of the equine family. They’re much like an Icelandic pony, the Icelandic pony can and will carry up to 200 pounds with ease. Is it cruel because he should be in the wild? Well then let’s release all the horses and donkeys into the wild. Is riding all together cruel? Well then so are shows for dogs and rabbits. If he did not want to do it, that girl would be lying in the floor and that zebra would be gone.
HAHAHA OMG! I think i saw this video a year ago and I saw it in suggested list... the sad thing is the only thing I remembered from watching the video the first time was the amount of hate. xD Guys, if you seriously think she should stop riding, report it, call animal welfare, call an equine vet, call a specialist, email or text someone who is qualified to determine if the animal is in a state of distress. I only clicked on this video again to see how much more hate this video was copping. Seriously guys, how in anyway do you think that a comment made on a video is going to stop her from riding this Zebra? xD seriously people!
The zebra looks very content. But it was my understanding that zebra's backs haven't evolved the way a domestic horse has to bare weight. Is this a misconception? Does this mean that smaller or younger people wouldn't hurt their backs but this is a minority of riders? I know zebras are quite a bit smaller than horses but so are donkeys. What is the difference between those two in that sense?
Shes not that tall btw. The horses you ride should be around or taller than your shoulder. zebras arent as tiny as percieved. She is probably around the same height i am and i ride a welsh for christs sake. look closely. the zebra is 1/2 to 5/8 the size of an 8-9 foot fence. They are approximately 13 hands, the size of an average pony which can be ridden by anyone 5' to 5'6'' safely, as well as children. Not to mention shes training that animal through most of the video. and hes obviously FINE, you hear me F I N E!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Half of you have probably never owned a horse, let alone owned a zebra. This woman is obviously experienced. that is all.
You have no idea, do you? Incredibly uneducated. Read ***** 's comment, she explains everything. To sum it all up: Horses are ridden for hundreds of years. They have developed a stronger body (look at the przewalski for example, and compare that to a thoroughbred). Zebras are physically made for speed, running, fleeing. Not for carrying humans, jumping while carrying a human, muscle training such as dressage. Their backs simply can't handle it, I wouldn't be surprised if this zebra has back problems in the following years and permanent damage to the back and legs. Please, educate yourself first before you make decisions such as adopting a wild animal.
Morgan Hohmann So? One ride isn't going to cause the problem. Imagine carrying a very heavy load of books or something in a backpack. Doing that on occasion, or just once is not going to hurt you. Do it many times, however, and you will have a messed up back. This is the same situation. You riding a zebra once isn't going to hurt it, regular riding is.
it is possible to tame a zebra, you have to get them away from their parents at young age. train them. Someone said, for example hyena's will always bite, l saw a guy brushing hyena's teeth LOL. Nice video!
Yes it is.. l know. l never said l wanted it. But they do it with puppies too mostly people sell puppies after a while. l personally wouldn't do this to an animal it kills my heart l love animals more than most things in this world and l would never hurt an animal l'm like the biggest animal lover.
Marit me to I love animals so much my aunt rescuses sea turtules at a resort for animals and a reserve they rescues a lot of sick injureds animal and help them to health and I still would like a zebra that would be the best surprise ever to me
@@MnyMny100 We do the same thing to horses but "ohhh it's fine when we do it to horses" what is your point. Either it's cruel for both of them or it's not. ( And yeah that is kinda douchy)
he may not be in enough pain to buck. not all animals in pain will buck, they aren't robots. I think alot of people are more concerned about the long term wear and tear on the zebras spine as if you do research yourself online and thru reading books you will fine their spines would no be no where near as durable as a horses or ponies...
I'm pretty sure Zebras can't hold a person and considering how heavy western saddles are, it isn't very good for the Zebra. He seems very well behaved with you, though.
research explains that zebra's spines are floating unlike a horses spine. so you are completely right.. zebras should be ridden. just because you can doesnt mean to you.
Oh, UA-cam. Land of the uneducated people. You guys make me laugh so hard every single time. How absurd and RIDICULOUS to even imagine someone even suggesting that someone had gone through the trouble and painted this "white horse" and called it a zebra. Zebras have very distinctive markings AND tail you know? MUCH different than any horse. This animal you see IS a very well-trained ZEBRA, probably raised with humans when it was still very young. And learn how to spell and use proper grammar, please. Get lessons. You all would truly benefit from it. A LOT.
*I’m kidding.* You are so unique and it would be thrilling to see this!! Well done, you should be proud. I love what you do!! This is actually so cool.
This is interesting because I read years ago that zebras could not be domesticated or ridden, which is obviously incorrect, based on this video. I see a lot of comments are complaining that Zack is too small to be jumping with a rider, but I very much doubt that one or two occasional jumps are going to seriously damage him. He's hardly being ridden from sun up to sundown out on the range, like a horse.
not trying to be rude, but you really aren't supposed to ride zebras. Not because it's impossible to tame or train them...but because it is not good for them. No matter wich zebra species ( Equus Zebra/Grevyi/quagga ) none of their bodies are build to carry the weight of riders. Horses ( Equus ferus caballus ) however have been specifically bred over thousands of years to carry the weight of man ( also pull stuff etc. ). If you have that great of a bond with him, you should stop riding him for his on well being.
This isn't correkt. Why the Way from 3 Year old to complete trained horse need a time from 3 or 4 years? because only 1 Year is the Time, in whitch the trainer build the muscles on back. Let a good trained horse stay one month without be ridden or even groundwork and you need normally 6 Month or more to build the Muscles again. So the 'Horses are be breed thousend of years' dont say more as nothing. Andy the Bones of a Zebra are as first much stronger as the bones of a normal horse and second the Back is more createt to carry Weight, as the Back from a horse. Zebras have a short Back in one line -other than a horse. So please get your Informations right, befor write them on YT, FB or other Socialmedia things ^^
jessepitt, the miniature donkeys used for events like 'donkey basketball' cannot carry over 100 pounds, even though they have to carry full grown adults on hardwood floors weekly.😰 Don't support donkey basketball people!!!!! (I'm not sure about zebras, so I'm not going to make any wrong assumptions)
That's really cool and no hate but just a tip, Maybe you could get him a bit faster before approaching the jump just to get a rythem and so it will be a bit easier to get the striding right
and what about the fact that she isn't hitting him over it. If the zebra really didn't enjoy it he would stop. Not being mean but the girl doesn't look like a very good rider so it's very easy to stop. Also what happens if in the wild they're getting chased so they run but there was a log in front of them what is the Zebra just going to get eaten? no it will jump so don't go comparing it to the wild. Also another reason why to not compare wild animals to pet animals is because of humans and their technology pet animals live longer e.g wild zebras live up to 20 years when pets can live up to 40 years. If you say she's too heavy then the zebra would knock the jump. The fact that he slows down after the jump doesn't mean anything my horse dose that and he's a 8 year old ex-race horse. That's just like saying Friesians can't jump when they can look up videos of it. USE YOUR BRAIN.
Stop comparing a form of horse to a wild animals. Horses can be wild. Camels r wild and yet they r ridden without bucking the rider off. The zebra was calm happy and they have a special bond that rarely happens.
I don't get it. I mean, we've domesticated the horse. Why can't we just leave the wild animals alone? What is the point here? What are we gaining from mounting zebras? Why do we have to take all that is free and wild and exploit it? I don't necessarily think this zebra is abused or mistreated but ultimately, he is a wild animal and this is not what he is naturally meant to do. Perhaps hundreds or thousands of years ago, this would have been understandable and practical in Africa but today, in North America; really? Just get a horse like normal people. Or better yet, rescue one. Lord knows there are so many being slaughtered. :(
Zebras are horses, horses are domesticated, only one wild horse left, because of humans. You don't say that we domesticated lions because they're in a zoo.
Zebras and horses are the same kind of equine. Thats why they can be bred together. They are the same thing just from different origins. If zebras were different from horses they wouldnt be able to breed. Take for example a Pigeon and a Hawk. They are not the same genome there fore cannot breed, however the Zebra and horse are so they can. In fact here in california its more common than you would think for people to buy zebras. If you can ride a donkey or horse a zebra is no different.
I watched a cow jump the other day. I’ve seen dogs jump. I jump. I’ve seen my horses jump. I’ve seen cats jump. Today, I see a *zebra* jump. New one for the list of jumping things-
I don´t care about all of your hateful comments. I can have an opinion about this, like I don´t care what you think!! Why should I? I don´t care about delayed people. I just said I was against this because I was thinking for the animal, not for all you...
I have a solution. Go on to Jet Creation's web site and get yourself one of those big blowup zebras you can sit and bounce on. Leave the real ones alone if their backs can't take the weight of a rider. As for horses, people have been riding them for centuries without any harm to the animals. Unless you happen to weigh 400 pounds in which case you should stay the heck off any animal's back!
Perhaps she should get a horse instead?? Shes clearly to big the that pony of s zebra.. and if everyone's comments are true about the wee thing getting damaged every time its ridden, we dont you just do showmanship with it? Im sure it would definitely stun the judges ;)
You do know these hate r offending her because u r basically saying she is fat. I respect all people that disagree with her riding a zebra opinions but ye r wrong. She would've been bucked off the zebra if the zebra wasn't comfortable with her on their back.
Shelby Christensen Um how does that work out in your head? By that logic you could ride a dog? All animals are built to carry their own weight and obviously females can carry a baby or babies but that doesn't mean they can carry a hundred pounds or more on their back.
***** Zebras are built to carry their own heavy bodies and weigh a lot themselves. If zebras couldn't stand to have weight on top of them, how would they mate? Also, zebras are a close relative of the horse and both are basically built for carrying heavy things.
My_Bay_Jed Ok, but horses are a lot stronger and can handle carrying more weight. They were also domesticated and bred to be able to be ridden. Zebras are wild animals and should be left alone.
Maiya Manor 😂😂😂😂horses "started out" wild too ya know. They have a mind of their own. I LOVE and ride horses. You're pretty much saying that Shetland ponies shouldn't be ridden and Shetland are most of the time smaller than the damn zebra😂
das Zebra ist soo süß !!!! aber du bist doch ganz schön schwer für den süßen !! und reitet man auf Zebra? ich hab geliked weil das Zebra soooooooo TOLL IST! WOW♥
Just because you "can" ride something, think about the animal. I highly doubt that zebra's can physically handle such a big human. Can't you see after a jump how the zebra slows down? With a normal horse you could keep going, but it's simply too much for a zebra. Zebra's are supposed to use their body structure to flee and to bolt against predators.
Jennifer Bannink ik this is very late but he trotted up to the jump and did a few strides of canter after, so he didn’t slow down. He seems happy with her riding him
and what about the fact that she isn't hitting him over it. If the zebra really didn't enjoy it he would stop. Not being mean but the girl doesn't look like a very good rider so it's very easy to stop. THEY R A FORM OF HORSE. SHE WOULD'VE BEEN BUCKED OFF IF SHE WAS TOO HARSH ON THE ZEBRA'S BACK. Sorry but these hate r making me mad. They have a bond. The zebra is happy. And u r basically her fat by saying she is heavy weighted human. SO FUCK OFF AND HATE ON SOMEONE ELSE U JUDGING BITCH.
I think this should be reported, because Zebras are wild animals, and you just can't get a wild animal to treat it like a horse, when maybe the animal is suffering with all that weight. I'm against this🚫
+isabella velez velasquez I hate people who think they who think they are experts on things they know nothing about. This animal has been breed in captivity for several generations and they probably did selective breeding.
zebras have the same bone structure of horses, there is no physical reason why we shouldn't ride them. The reason why it isn't commonly done is because zebras don't tend to be docile and willing
ponies are smaller than horses, should we stop riding them too? And horses & ponies have back problems as well, when ridden incorrectly/have badly fitting tack (same as a zebra would in the same situation!) Seriously, zebras have pretty much *identical* skeletal structure as horses and ponies--go look up some pictures. Come back when you have a valid argument, will ya?
Wow... rarely do you ever see such a strong bond between a zebra and human. That's incredible! How is Zack doing nowadays, this video was posted years ago!
Yes, there are people who may respond from an emotional standpoint. But there are also a lot of people with a wealth of experience who know what they are talking about.
+BreyerLover1984 they're not saying that she is heavy, they are just saying that she is too heavy for the zebra, it's putting to much pressure on its back to be jumping with it
They have the same bone structure and qualities as horses. The maine reason humans haven't generally domesticated them is because of their small size and lack of cooperation.
uh... you do know donkey's are smaller right? and... we do ride donkeys. Zebras just tend to be more "wild" and aggressive. But I bet if we started breeding them for tameness, eventually we could get very cool alternatives to horses.
Morgan Emery or maybe its cuz zebras are wild animals that will attack you if you get too close so no one has been able to get them or maybe even cuz zebras don't live in America
So cute. He's a real love! Not spooked at all by anything. LOL Just so neat to see this. I just watched another ham video......a Camel doing dressage! OMG was so cute. He loved it. hahaha Thanks for sharing this video. Made my day!
I'm 5ft and have ridden 11hh ponies- this guy looks perfect for me lol. Very calm, very quiet though I imagine he gets tired after a while. Interesting gait.
I have worked with zebras trained to work in harness, but never under saddle.
Over the years I have been told by that Zebras are too stubborn to be trained to be ridden; Zack is proof that it can be done.
Great work!

Maria Farwagi No, it really doesn't. Lmfao. It doesn't make sense at all with what you said. Why? Because a zebra would not "PRETEND". -facedesk 1000000000 times-

That is clearly a Zebra and not any kind of painted horse, even a Fjord, whilst it has a similar mane, it does not resemble the body shape in the slightest. Check out "Grants Zebras" on google, you'll see :)

EquiiSpirit so true
EquiiSpirit acually it's not always true...I love animals, but I would never ride a zebra...maybe I would let small kids trie to ride a zebra, because of the small weight, but not a teenager or an adult...they aren't ment to be riden by a human...
(I know my English is not so good...)
EquiiSpirit SO TRUE! ;P
incorrect
no they are concerned because there is so much information out there about why zebra's shouldnt be ridden due to their spines being completely different to horses.
I'm still laughing that people don't believe that this is a Zebra though...Learn your animals, guys! xD

I agree. People are too eager to yell abuse at things that are fine and let real abuse go without questioning it.
pinto lover and i ain't reading this big ass comment
pinto lover Btw a horse has been bred to carry shit on its back and a zebra has just been living its life, running so people shouldn't be riding zebras so it would be technically animal abuse because the zebra is being forced to do something that only a small amount of others have done
I think its a great bond
i did not realize how much I needed this in my life.
At 0:54 he was licking and chewing which means he is relaxed. He is not in pain.
-WildHorses44- xfmvhkc
to be fair zebra is very distant from a horse and may not share that trait
-WildHorses44- It is not a "full horse" so that could meen something completely different
They do share common body language. A wolf and dog and extremely distant from each other, but they're still each canines, and share the same body language, just as horses and zebras and donkeys (all equines) do.
Night Lizard Yes but what do we know about Zebras?
Aw you're so lucky! You clearly have a great relationship with him :-)
Amazing. I mean, I knew it was possible to train a zebra this way, but to really see it, is a great thing. You can just see the determination :D
He looks happy and focused on what he has to do. Looks like he enjoys jumping and doing those circuits and you can see she really loves him. Good job!
The Zebra's bone structure and muscularity is more similar to that of a horse rather than a pony, despite measuring as a pony. You'll see the same thing with icelandic horses.
So she's not too tall for him. You're just thinking of the Zebra as a pony.
Em A Viking You do know that a pony is just a horse under 14.2 hh? So there is no way that a zebra is more similar to a horse than a pony.
That's not quite correct, but thank you anyway.
Eve James A pony's skeletal and muscular structure is different from a horse. A zebra may be as tall as a large pony, but its more similar to a horse in strength. Same thing with a Fjord horse. A Fjord is the size of a large pony, but has the strength and endurance as a normal horse.
Em A Viking icelandics have very short backs, they can & do carry adults, different to a zebra
exactly same goes for halfies or draft cross pony like breeds

Lol lets face it. If she was uncomfortable for him he would of thrown her off by now.
Exactly
Actually, that's not true. It's down to training and though I'm the first to admit she has done marvellous job of training him.
However she's evidently too large for him, which causes me to question whether or not she should be riding him at all. No pony of that size would be ridden by a woman of her size.
I'm no authority on zebras, but I know other equines very well and I look at that video and find myself incredibly concerned for the zebra.
+Danny Darkense it just depends onthe weight of the rider and saddle combined not how tall or old she is
If you opt to ride a mule for rent down the Grand Canyon, they will tell you in no uncertain terms if you are too big for a mule. I believe total weight, including 30 lb. saddle can not exceed 200 lbs. You see Americans all over the west torturing poor animals by forcing them to bear their overweight butts.
I agree. She is too big for him. The zebra is a nice size in all but zebras are incredibly dangerous, and there backs aren't very good with lots of weight.( She did do a good job of training him;)
That's incredible! What a lot of fun and a great relationship shines through. Which country are you in ?
There are a lot of HORSES that are not so well behaved. Wonderful to see!!!
I disagree. Horses or any kind like it act up, sometimes it’s due to the rider, sometimes the horse is young and is being trained and makes mistakes. Horses only misbehave because they feel what you feel or the are learning something new.
Loving all the zebra experts on UA-cam ;)
Right if this is so harmful to his spine or whatever, why does he look happy and is willing to jump this??? And don't say "He was tortured into it."
Exactly people don't complain when jumping a horse but it is so called 'cruel' to do it to a zebra :/
Ikr! The zebra looks to small to be ridden!
Zœlla he was forced
_Neon_ Star_ Believe it or not anatomy between different animals changes it. Their spines arent as strong as horses.
Just because he is not currently in pain does not mean that this won’t result in serious long term damage to his skeletal structure
@@katebrookes2068 that zebra was fine. i agree with that cute redhead girl with freckles
Just because we can, doesnt mean we should...
Exactly. Just because you can comment, doesn't mean you should.
I never knew people would jump zebras in the olden days 😂
I love seeing comments that say leave the wild animals alone. For all people who know about horses, there is only one wild horse left because of humans. You don't think that when we put zebras in zoos that we're harming then (because they're not endangered), but when we start riding one, it's all "that's cruel!". The zebra isn't trying to run away or anything, so keep your "animal expertice" to yourself.
If a zebra can still gallop strong with a large lion on its back, digging its claws into it, im sure it could hold a person.
just because it can doesnt mean it should. and long term this weight on this zebras back will cause terrible damage. and put in a world of pain, shorten it's life etc.
te aorangi Zebras can actually carry the same amount of weight as horses :)) the girl doesn’t even look heavy (but she looks quite tall) so the Zebra will be fine

The zebra is like a horse.donkey cross.. They are more horse in nature. They have been ridden in long past.

To sum it all up:
Horses are ridden for hundreds of years.
Ive ridden a zebra with no ill effects. Consider that as educated :)
Morgan Hohmann So? One ride isn't going to cause the problem. Imagine carrying a very heavy load of books or something in a backpack. Doing that on occasion, or just once is not going to hurt you. Do it many times, however, and you will have a messed up back. This is the same situation. You riding a zebra once isn't going to hurt it, regular riding is.

research explains that zebra's spines are floating unlike a horses spine. so you are completely right.. zebras should be ridden. just because you can doesnt mean to you.
Oh, UA-cam. Land of the uneducated people. You guys make me laugh so hard every single time. How absurd and RIDICULOUS to even imagine someone even suggesting that someone had gone through the trouble and painted this "white horse" and called it a zebra.
You are too big for him. And why are you riding a ZEBRA any ways? Where did you even GET one!?
not trying to be rude, but you really aren't supposed to ride zebras.
Claudio Schwab SHUT UP!
I totally agree with you
So how do you explain donkeys?
jessepitt, the miniature donkeys used for events like 'donkey basketball' cannot carry over 100 pounds, even though they have to carry full grown adults on hardwood floors weekly.😰 Don't support donkey basketball people!!!!! (I'm not sure about zebras, so I'm not going to make any wrong assumptions)
Horses donkeys zebra all genus Equus .
He does it so beautifully. Who ever his trainer is hats off to you!!!
That's really cool and no hate but just a tip,
Maybe you could get him a bit faster before approaching the jump just to get a rythem and so it will be a bit easier to get the striding right
zebras dont have to be riding. they have to be wild and free
Well so is it with horses too but we ride them
and what about the fact that she isn't hitting him over it.
Let him be free just so he can be chased down and shot by poachers. Totally ideal over a warm shelter, free food and water, and love.
Yall frealing out over a comment from 3 years ago about a 11 year old girl wanting a zebra to be free, lmao chill
Stop comparing a form of horse to a wild animals. Horses can be wild. Camels r wild and yet they r ridden without bucking the rider off. The zebra was calm happy and they have a special bond that rarely happens.
shes too big for the zebra though..
If you can ride a donkey or horse a zebra is no different.
horses used to be wild and through breeding and training only then did we domesticate them
I wish the quality of video was better for something so awesome:) very cool!

Couldnt help but laugh at this comment.

You're way too big for him. Well, zebras just aren't able to be a pack animal, let alone carry a rider.

Zebra's legs are built to carry their heavy bodies and babies (when they're pregnat) so it is fine!

Zebras and horses aren't stupid animals. If he didn't like her in his back, she would be bucked off "honnie". -_-
+Cute Cupcake first of zebras and horses are not the same thing horses backs are made different go look it up
That poor zebra looked like it was about to collapse.
Yeah, because jumping 2 foot 8 is "about to collapse"
+TrotTo Canter He barely made it over. Zebras aren't made for jumping and carrying people. Especially adults.
+Maiya Manor horses Weren't made to be ridden either and you don't see anyone complaining about us riding them do you..? No.
WOW♥
YOU BOTH TRULY LOOK THE BEST OF BUDDIES.....ZACK IS ADORABLE, SO CLEVER...... MY ZEBRA- 'ZED' COULDN'T DO THAT.....HE'S TOO LAZY...LOL ;-)
He seemed pretty relaxed
Horses have the same body structure.
Animal abuse........
This hardly isn't animal abuse, have you seen slaughter house abuse videos ? This zebra would've bucked her off by now he he didn't like jumping etc.
if you call this animal abuse then you haven't seen real animal abuse eg: hitting dogs, skinning animals, yulin day
***** whos this to
There’s no abuse here. Move along please....
I think this should be reported, because Zebras are wild animals, and you just can't get a wild animal to treat it like a horse, when maybe the animal is suffering with all that weight. I'm against this🚫
+isabella velez velasquez You do realize horses are wild animals too? Even your typical dog and cat.
+AnimalLover lol.. no they are not! they are domesticated, and that is not wild.. A zebra is wild..
Horses are wild animals to.. Learn ur shit Hun
H. Odison
Um no. They are domesticated so they can live with us but that doesn't mean they are not wild, they still have wild instincts.
+isabella velez velasquez
I hate people who think they who think they are experts on things they know nothing about.
This animal has been breed in captivity for several generations and they probably did selective breeding.
Perfect.....I loved this....the rider is very at ease and the bonding is natural.....superb.....🐎🐎
How were they able to tame a zebra?
How did they manage to get a zebra? That's what I want to know. Hahaha
a zebra is not a horse so you shouldn´t ride a zebra! it´s not good for him!
zebras have the same bone structure of horses, there is no physical reason why we shouldn't ride them. The reason why it isn't commonly done is because zebras don't tend to be docile and willing
zebras are wild animals they live outside not in a stable!
so do wild horses... but we tame and ride them too (thinking about Mustangs here). There is no real reason why we shouldn't ride zebras.
zebras are smaller than horses so they can get back problems. mustangs are the same as horses, they are horses. but a zebra not called horse but zebra
ponies are smaller than horses, should we stop riding them too? And horses & ponies have back problems as well, when ridden incorrectly/have badly fitting tack (same as a zebra would in the same situation!)
Seriously, zebras have pretty much *identical* skeletal structure as horses and ponies--go look up some pictures.
Come back when you have a valid argument, will ya?
There backs are not made to sapport our wait
Sorry it's late I can't spell and I'm not correcting it
Why the fuck can horses?
+Charlie Carson Why don't you go research their structure and figure that out?
Aww sheet
*dabs*
I find this horrible, why would you do this to that poor zebra. Aren't horses good enough?
If the Zebra didn't like it, he would throw her off. Besides he doesn't even seem to make any notion of disliking what is happening soo...
Darcy Carter Zebras are short but this way too short.. This is a colored horse
Lorelei Horses 25 I didn't pay attention to height but yes, yes you are very much right :P
Misamee Thank you, I've noticed strange activity on this channel. Animal abuse...even tho its a horse
Lorelei Horses 25 No problem, but I'mma stay out of the rest, too many risks :P
Wow... rarely do you ever see such a strong bond between a zebra and human. That's incredible! How is Zack doing nowadays, this video was posted years ago!
YOU HAVE A ZEBRA?!?! THATS SO COOL!!!! IVE NEVER SEEN ANYONE RIDE A ZEBRA BEFORE!!!
YOU ARE WAY TOO FUCKING HEAVY FOR THAT POOR ANIMAL! GET OFF!!!!!
+amy kirland I further understand the zebra conformation results in less weight carrying ability than the horse.
Liberty would be way cooler IMO...
yes....stopp that!!!
+amy kirland Internet people: Watch one video - suddenly takes everything as fact. Internet Expert: HowStuffWorks level.
Yes, there are people who may respond from an emotional standpoint. But there are also a lot of people with a wealth of experience who know what they are talking about.
+BreyerLover1984 they're not saying that she is heavy, they are just saying that she is too heavy for the zebra, it's putting to much pressure on its back to be jumping with it
zebra's aren't to ride! poor thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hali Rice Most horses aren't native to America, Europeans brought them over
Natalie Fugitt
actually Spain brought them over
god that is amazing a zebra doing that you only see them in the wild usually. hes lovely.
how many years did it take for the zebra to become comfortable enough to allow people to ride it
So cute. He's a real love! Not spooked at all by anything. LOL Just so neat to see this. I just watched another ham video......a Camel doing dressage! OMG was so cute. He loved it. hahaha Thanks for sharing this video. Made my day!
And now, ladies and gentlemen....give a big hand for....The UA-cam Zebra Experts! 👏👏👏
omg i want to ride one now :D how old is he/she now great video also very sweet
I'm 5ft and have ridden 11hh ponies- this guy looks perfect for me lol. Very calm, very quiet though I imagine he gets tired after a while. Interesting gait.
