We found the Rufus Ford Family house! 220 S. Pine. It was briefly in the video. It’s for sale for $19,900. Built in 1870 and, at this point, unliveable. No water, electricity, sewers, etc. Our family thanks you.

I don’t really see how towns like this can survive unless everyone is independently wealthy or have very successful internet businesses. The Walmarts and fast food restaurants and gas stations and urban sprawl are a blight but they seem to be the way of the future.

Most towns like Buda are not really "surviving". The majority of Illinois small towns have been slowly losing population since 1950. And the populations of these towns are aging. Farming is being done by fewer and fewer people. Residents of Buda are not wealthy and they are not internet entrepreneurs. Those in the workforce who don't work in farming or a trade most likely commute to a nearby town to work.

We went rummaging through our old photo albums and found a postcard from 1912 of downtown Buda. Notice the RCA sign on the side of the building on main street. That must have been painted on the building about 1920.

Wow! Do you have a lot of postcards from 1912 laying around?

@@exploreusacities We’re not sure. We’d be happy to post the image if there was a way.

imagine how quiet it must be at night...until a freight train rumbles by at 3 a.m. im guessing that most of these houses were paid for years ago. some dont want to move away and some cant. cue johnny couger mellencamp now. rain on the scarecrow, blood on the plow.....

Thank you for the tour. Our great grandfather was born in Buda in 1859 in the house that our gggrandfather built. We live out in California and will probably never get there. Thank you, again.
