I need to replace my desktop, which is a Dell that runs Windows. I was looking at the iMAC Pro, but the MACbook Pro may be more interesting. Can I plug a large monitor into a MACbook Pro, and get the same performance I could get with a desktop?

@@DeborahCarlston Yes, that's exactly what my setup is. I am using my M3 Pro MacBook Pro 14 as a desktop with a 28" 4K monitor, keyboard and mouse, and printer, hooked up to it.
I plan to get myself an old refurbished 27" intel imac because of its 5k display.
I have a loaded 27” iMac paid $ 1,500 for it and it has a add on magnetic bezel that makes it a touch screen.

M1 iPad and MacBook still killing it
I'm a big fan of 27" iMacs and I'm still on one now. As soon as Apple announced Apple silicon I bought the best iMac I could a i9 ten core 27" iMac and that ten core i9 still performs great next to M1 and M2 Macs. So if Apple was to come out with a 32" iMac as long as it not crazy overpriced I'll order one day one. In mean time I'm still considering a Mac Studio with Max chip.

No reason Apple can't still support older Intel iMacs.
Supporting multiple platforms is really expensive the development and especially QA costs are way high. Apple loves their big profit margins to much to do that.
We still have 2 iMacs 27” Intel and love them. I won’t buy the 24” but would buy the 32” in a heartbeat.

That is a pass for now... we don't know really know that until release of the chip and software is updated to work with it full
Wow, love to hear they're thinking about larger iMac, i thought they'd abandoned those, i got mines back in 2015 and its' been the core of everything i do, its getting a bit slow now though but I just couldn't step from a 27" to a 24", i'd miss the space too much.. Loving the idea though of the Mac Studio too as its so portable you could literally stick it in a case and take it anywhere really, its a powerhouse! :)

This imac 32inch sounds too good to be true. It could be true quite easily. But the price of this thing isn’t going to be comparable to the studio display + mac mini system or your macbook pro. A 32inch display with mini led is going to be very expensive specially at the 6k resolution they will have to release it at. If they release it at any other resolution, mac OS will struggle with the scaling and/or it won’t be retina. The xdr display for example is £4500 just as an example. So if this display is 6k, mini led, 32 inch and with pro motion, it’s better than the xdr display. That plus the pro m4 chip, camera, keyboard, mouse, webcam, microphone array, speaker system, wireless chip, ports…this thing is going to be around £7000+. 3200 usd wont even get you the display alone. So no chance.
I'm at a stand still right now in my Home Studio. I was waiting for M3 "STUDIO" ...not now, so I need to wait longer for either New iMAC w/ M4 or "STUDIO" M4. ( plus need to buy Monitor ) ...Hmm?

A M1 iMac with 16gb RAM is still quite the beast for 90% of people.. if these come out they will end up being pretty insane.
Thanks for this video update on the progress of the iMac Pro. I have been holding out for purchasing a new Mac for years waiting on this release so hopefully I’ll be able to make the plunge this year or next. I have a 2015 27” Intel iMac and I’m booting off an external SSD drive which put some life into this computer, but it’s still a little sluggish and I can’t update to the current OS or apps. I would love a laptop as well so hopefully I’ll be the lucky winner, especially since my birthday is in late June. Keep on creating that great content!

I had an imac from 2008-2017, was one of the best computers I've ever owned. The screen did however start to have issues (to be expected for such an old computer), this is why I would hesitate to buy another one but at the same time that issue could happen with an apple laptop as well. An M4 max Mac studio would probably be the best option for my workflow and could change out the monitors when they inevitably give out.

This is the option I wanted but because of the shaky rumors I caved and got a specd out m3 iMac. Thinking if I really needed to I could add a studio Display as a second monitor down the line while also getting setup to transition to a Mac mini/studio after that. For the power I need it was difficult to justify the added cost to get a comparable m2 Mac mini + studio display for just 3 more inches. If the studio display was 30” or more I maybe would’ve justified it. This 24” display has been surprisingly comfortable, and the m3 chip is great. If I do decide to upgrade it’ll be nice to have a larger iMac option as well.

The iMac powered by the M4 chipset is the apple machine I would put at the top of my apple buy list. And if it is 32 inch screen than better!!! If this machine is released in 2024 then it will be my Christmas gift to myself!

I have been a loyal iMac user since 2006 when I switched to Apple, which is coming up on 20 years now. Everyone today is all about mobile devices and I am as well, to an extent. However I am completely loyal to desktop Macs forever.
Currently I am using an iMac M1 (yellow) and it is literally perfect for every single thing I need. I considered going for the M3, but when I realised it was just an under the hood upgrade, I passed. Plus, I am assuming they will eventually switch the Magic Mouse and Magic Keyboard to USB-C, just not yet...
An Apple Silicon iMac Pro is my dream.

Still using a 2011 27inch iMac, still stuck on High Sierra, still using Logic Pro 10.4.8. Despite being the centrepiece of my studio for 13(!) years and making music professionally for the entire period….it’s time for an upgrade! Very close to pulling the trigger on an M2 Mini, but if there’s a new 32 inch M4 iMac on the horizon then take my money! (Although I bet here in Australia we’ll be looking at $4.5AU to $5kAU entry level 😢)

Currently still on my late 2014 27” Intel iMac with Fusion Drive so this is good news that a larger iMac is in the pipeline!
i just now stepped up to intel macs, having only had an mac mini 2014 that bridged my PowerPC G5 imac into the future as i used it and the mac mini for years. i have a macbook air 2015 and imac 2017 now with apple watch ipod touch and ipad. also apple tv and homepods.
Definitely will wait for a 30-32” inch iMac Pro but a MacBook Pro is also a must when going on safari and photo shoot into the wild! Must do daily backup, pick shots for live website and blog updates. Would be nice 🙏🏻
