I bought this album when it came out. I was in my early 20's with my first real stereo "system" and it was one of my very early purchases. What an incredible masterpiece from start to finish. And as usual for APP, the sound engineering was just head-and-shoulders above the norm for the day.
Yes, all his music is well engineered (eg DarkSideOfTheMoon). For decades Ive been using the opening track from I Robot to test my latest sound system. Turn volume to 90% before starting and sit in the stereo sweet spot with eyes closed.
This song as well as many others of the Alan Parsons' Project was originally sung by Chris Rainbow. He passed yesterday. His voice in the Project can simply not be replaced.
PJ Olsson is far from awful. Parsons used different singers on so many songs. PJ comes in and sings songs of 5 different vocalists in concert and does an incredible job. I have seen them perform 5 times with PJ and he is one of the best live singers you will ever see in your lifetime. And yes to the original post Chris Rainbow was an awesome and integral part of several Parsons albums.
I'm sure that Chris Rainbow would graciously praise PJ for his efforts. PJ is amazing. It's rare to see a singer who sings with such emotion and passion. I think PJ is great and hope to see him singing with Alan Parson's Project some day. The whole ensemble of musicians and singers fills my soul with joy.
This is one of the greatest songs of all time. Such an emotion invoking vibe. I noticed that many of you wonderful people used this song to make it through true tragedies.
I love AL PARSONS PROJECT. / Along with many others...Like AL STEWART .A a lot of people do not understand the talent and task it takes to put such a band together to much such hits. There is so much talented musicians in these bands.
Just feel lucky that you can see and hear Alan Parsons Project live on UA-cam. Could be worst! Thanks to the guy singing this phenomenal song with such a great emotion. Love Eric and Chris as well.
@@Kaleiddmode what 'real' thing? Eric is DEAD. Alan is alive and touring as the ALAN PARSONS project. Ian Bairnson just died. This has been the live and recording band for over a decade.
Aw, man, wish I would have caught this concert! That was simply amazing. Turn of a Friendly Card is my favorite APP album - as many have said here already, it's a masterpiece.
The Turn of a Friendly Card.

Well said Sid Simo - I myself was a musician for over 30 years - those negative fools can only dream of having the talent of AP & his band members. AP is brilliant.
If I were him (the singer) I would do my best as he did and I did not find anything wrong in his performance and Chris Rainbow will be in my mind and my spiritual perception at all times, forever and ever.
I was introduced to ‘The Friendly Card’ by a holiday romance in the 70s. Loved it then Still loving this exceptional talent now. Thank you Guys for a wonderful musical experience. I will never forget 😎
I heard Eye in the Sky on the radio about 2 years ago. I recognized it from the 70's and I remembered it was a band called the Alan Parsons Project but I didn't recall any other tracks by them. I decided to have a look around for any other tracks. My son downloaded their discology and I was amazed at how much stuff they had put out. I am putting together a collection of the ones that I like ( love ) and there are dozens of great tracks. I will just mention a few tracks at the top of the list just out of interest and maybe you can do the same and introduce me to some I have missed : Limelight, Since the last goodbye, Turn of a friendly card ( 1& 2 ), Sooner or later, Time, Old & wise, Ammonia Avenue, Silence and I, Fragile, Don't answer me, Dancing on a highwire, Seperate lives, Prime time, There but for the grace of god, I am a mirror.............and loads more. Also, I remember Ian Bairnson as the guitarist with a band called Pilot in the 70's but I didn't realise what a class guitarist he is. The solo's he produces on a lot of these tracks are superb. I'll shut up now............I' a bit obsessed with APP at the moment.
@texetera same here! I've been listening to as much as I can of APP for the last 18 months, Iand I still haven't heard all the original studio material. Just glad I have the opportunity to keep finding more! Don't answer Me is such a wistful song. Time is haunting. There are so many good ones and when I find any new live videos of them on youtube I am ecstatic too. Have fun!
I saw Alan Parsons live in Mi at what was called Pine Knob. now it is D.T.E. on july 4th .Ian was playing guitar ,the concert was done in quad. .It was Incredible ! .Quad sound is speakers in front , and in the back of people with 2 mixing boards . Siruis opened the show , tbe music was swirling around .But the whole concert was just incredible ,Ian s playing ,every solo sounds like the one he played on the records .
mikemaninblack ...Interesting...his voice struck me in exactly the opposite way. To me, his voice detracted from the great performance by the musicians. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

The whole "The Turn Of A Friendly Card" suite is a real classic. And for me it's one of the best Progressive Rock tunes ever made!
