“YOU DO YOU” well said Meng. I am also not part of this “gay lifestyle” but I enjoy watching you guys and hearing your stories! And in no way shape or form would I go to question my place in the LGBT community nor do I go berate people who take part in it. That’s such an immature and extremely insecure mindset to have!

I noticed that comment on your last video too. I think it's a very common experience for gay men - who often feel like outsiders as they begin exploring their sexuality - to shun things that seem alien. I realise more each day that the freedom from previously constructed social mores of straight society is what makes being gay superpower. And whether you party every night, dip your toe from time to time, or have a go and decide it's not for you. I'd encourage everyone to be wary of dismissing experiences they haven't yet tried for themselves, and to examine why they feel so negatively towards them without first hand encounter. Meng and Andrew hit the nail on the head.
Love the videos :). Can't wait to see what your Patreon is like.

Part of the comment felt a bit like internalized homophobia. Yes not everything is for everyone, but we also should let other people live their gay experience the way they want and not shun them for liking certain things we would never ever do.

My mother and I just had a conversation about how we feel more relaxed in America (specifically nyc) than in Japan, because you have to be so careful about how you act in Japan and in general we find Americans more friendly than Japanese people. For context, we have lived in both countries for many years.

    • @4leafclover243
      @4leafclover243 7 місяців тому +5

I’m not sure that’s a good explanation for being rude. Americans are very stereotyped for being super rude in general for good reasons. OR it’s plainly individualized culture of me me me vs more community based cultures.

On the question "does this happen every year."
The cruise Andrew and Meng attended was a chartered cruise assembled by an event organizer company (whose name they mentioned in the earlier videos). The event organizer chartered the entire ship from Royal Caribbean for that specific cruise. Royal Caribbean did not sell tickets; the private company did. Chartering the ship enables the company to create the atmosphere where gays are not just the majority, but nearly the totality. The company organizes several gay cruises throughout the year in different parts of the world. They interact with several different cruise lines and book different sizes of ships. So, yes, a "gay Caribbean cruise" happens every year, but it may not always be on a ship that size or on a Royal Caribbean ship. Also, happening every year are cruises originating in a number of other cities worldwide. The precise " gay cruise menu" may vary from year to year. And note also: the event organizer company they cruised with has competitors--so, there are other permutations in the panoply of gay cruising beyond what their two earlier videos showed.
The onboard entertainment also reflects the duality of two organizers. Things like the ice-skating show and Cats reflect the regular offerings of that Royal Caribbean ship that take place on every cruise of that season. Things like the drag performers and queer comedians are brought in especially for this clientele for this specific cruise by the private company. The dances featured in the two earlier videos are also organized by the company, not the cruise line. The food, of course, reflects what the cruise line usually does--though I'm told when they host the gay cruise, they order a lot more alcohol (and the bars stay open later)!

27:03 There are a lot of points in this comment which you already responded to for the most part: Personally, I am also monogamous person who wouldn't enjoy an environment of a thousand horny strangers. However, as you pointed out, nobody is forced to go there or live that lifestyle. It's totally fine to live the (sex) life in different ways.
One aspect of this comment however was a bit glazed over: the environmental impact. Cruise ships, flights and that sort are not a sustainable way of entertainment. There are better options to spend the holidays when it comes to making decision which do not destroy nature so obviously. An average sized cruise ship damages the environment as much as 12000 cars and more than twice compared to flying the cruise distance with a hotel stay. While I agree with Andrew that 'fun' is not something that people should inherently feel guilty about, it is worth reconsidering which consequences their actions have, what alternatives there are and how often it is done. Going on a cruise ship once in a lifetime is bad for the environment, but doing it multiple times per year is infinitely worse and actually something to think about.

I used to live in Japan from my late 20's to mid 30's. I went to ageha parties and 2 chome clubs, it was all fun and exciting. Now that I'm older and don't even live in japan anymore when i look back my most fond memories are about trivial things like food, job acomplishments, trips....nothing really realetd to gay life. Maybe deep down we know that parties and clubs don't reflect the real world, so these moments and feelings never really stick with us. I'm really happy with my life now, being married with a wonderful man for 4 years, reunited with family and friends couldn't ask for more. Live long and be smart sometimes freedom is a cage we build ourselves to proctect us from hurt.

I was also in Tokyo during my 20s & mid thirties. I hated clubbing because the smoke made me feel sick 😢 Same with alcohol… My fond memories of Japan are the trips, having matcha with friends, the cozy places, playing videogames at night with my colleagues at uni… I think the comment about “hedonism” was quite mean, but it was interesting that it was raised, because although I enjoy these videos, I usually don’t find myself represented in the so-called “gay scene” 😅
I’m monogamous not because I’m afraid, but because one is more than enough for me 😂 The rest of my time after work I fill it playing with my cat, playing video games, reading, meeting friends, seeing family… 😅

I think Andrew's observations of America are correct when it comes to US airports in major cities or tourist areas in major cities. If you go to the smaller city neighborhoods or 30 minutes outside the city to the suburbs, people are much softer spoken, considerate, friendly and courteous. As an American I hate going into busy spots of the city for the exact reasons Andrew shared.

I’ve never been on a gay cruise for two reasons. 1- I don’t like cruises because of the idea of being in the middle of nowhere but the ship. And 2- I always heard about the extreme sex-capades on these ships and learning most people go only for that reason. I have heard people talk about the number of people they had sex with. It’s just not my scene. Not only do I not want that, I don’t want to be in a place where sex is happening in all directions. I avoided bars with dark rooms because everyone expected you to follow them behind the curtain. After two different nights of saying no all night, I realized the only way to avoid it was not to go.

Brent, my husband and I have been on 7 Atlantis cruises, plus 2 Europe-based La Demence gay cruises, and are booked on another one this summer. We're 67 and 59 and there are loads and loads of guys much older than us on these cruises, who have an amazing time. The January Oasis ship that Andrew and Meng went on skews a bit younger because it's more a party boat than the others. Most folks on Atlantis are incredibly welcoming to guys of all ages (unlike most land-based gay bars we've seen). The one rule is to approach every party with a big smile and a joyous attitude-- you'll get back exactly what you put out.

I think you hit the nail bang on the head with your response to that conservative comment. I used to be in that mindset too where we're constantly mired in heteronormative anxieties. It was a liberating experience for me too losing these inhibitions. If there's one thing I've learnt from being gay it's that there is a better way of living, not just in the sexual aspects but also how we form relationships vs the colonialist judgmental misery that permeates heteronormative society. I'm hardly a slut, but losing the judgmental attitude towards other people's sex lives has made me a happier and warmer person.

We have been traveling with Atlantis cruises for 25 years and love them. We go every year on one of them and some years we have done 2 cruises. They are all different and it depends on the cruise company how the quality of everything is. They do several cruises all over the world every year so check the company page. Each cruise also gets different types of people. This cruise is probably the most party cruise they have. If you did one of the med cruises you are getting up so early to do activities you can’t party all night. We do the Mexico cruise often and will be going this year from San Diego. It is also a party cruise but smaller than the one you did. It is already sold out so we are expecting a fun trip. There are over 3k people on these ships so there is something for everyone. We did the Asia cruise last year with them but that we were disappointed. It wasn’t sold out and out of all the Atlantis cruises we have done this was the worst organized and not full of decorations or things we always get on the others. i know the Mexico cruise has a lot of Asian guys and we go with a group of around 20 guys who are Asian. I think its best not to go on these thinking your going to have sex everyday is not a good idea. It may happen but if it doesn’t your not feeling let down. I know on the Asia cruise there were many orgy parties that anyone could go to. That was the first time I experienced that on a cruise but I know they happen often on all of them. Sorry Meng got sea sick I also get sea sick easy. I take the meds and I don’t look at the ocean much. I also book center for the ship and make sure I keep light diet. I hope you try other cruises they offer you will see the difference of each one.

@@hejiranyc Bay area and Palm Springs CA are gayer actually. New York City, too. In fact, quite a few LGBTs have left Florida and moved to more lgbt friendly states and cities. South Florida might be a bit gayer and more progress than the rest of the state, but you are still subjected to state laws that treat you as second-class citizens. LGBTs still face discriminations unless you only stay in Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Moreover, every penny you spend in Florida will help the state and its government implement more backward policies and laws, hurting more LGBTs.

@@eastcoastguy_0803 Oh please. The gays have been priced out of SF. Palm Springs is a tiny town in the middle of nowhere. NYC has the biggest population, period, but per capita I would venture to guess that South Florida is more gay. And please, pray tell, do tell us all about the Florida "state laws that treat you as second-class citizens." I bet money you cannot name a single law. And, pray tell, what magic powers do gays in Miami and FLL have where they don't face discrimination while gays in the rest of Florida face discrimination. I'll wait. I'll bet the only laws you can think of apply to CHILDREN in public schools and prevent teachers (straight, gay and otherwise) from talking about sex and gender madness to children below the age of 10. If you think it is appropriate for adults to indoctrinate impressionable kids into believing that they were born into the wrong bodies and that they should look into bodily mutilation, then you are the one with the problem. If that is what you call "discrimination," then let's have more discrimination if it means leaving the kids alone.

Very interesting. Thank you. Meng looks quite cute with those glasses, but why wear glasses without lenses. I would find it weird if I saw someone wearing glasses with no lenses… And why did you skip answering the last question about how the ship staff might have felt ?? I guess some might have liked it, and some not so much, but I suppose you would have to have spoken to staff for that, which leads to another question of did you talk to staff other than standard politeness. Anyway, I’m sorry you skipped answering the “staff” question. But thanks for sharing this experience with us.

You had such a regular conversational speaking voice lol. Im interested in knowing was it the camera that made the customers "feel uncomfortable" or did they actually think you were talking too loud ?!

I’ve worked at Naples Maritime Station (Italy) for few months in 2016 and I remember back then, there was a Mediterranean gay cruise offboarding in July or August. I can’t remember what was the cruise line but from my understanding there are multiple gay cruises in Europe.
I had some regular customers, among the crew, mostly hardworking Filipinos, and I can imagine how much discomfort it would be to witness some of the mayhem on a gay cruise.
That being said…, my Grindr was also filled with messages from some of the crew members looking for quick action in between shifts 👀 while the ship was docked.
What I remember, among all the comments from the customers offboarding from the cruises :
    - food is generally very mainstream and passable
    - don’t book tours onboard, they are a ripoff. You can always book cheaper through local tour guides in advance,
    - don’t follow anyone (taxi, tour guide) waiting at the port,
    - be on time to onboard, otherwise you’re good to fly to the next port at your own cost,
    - don’t go on a cruise if you’re looking for a relaxing vacation. It’s cramped and crowded and you’ll be spending more time in waiting lines and transports on land than in real quality visits.

Thank you for slapping back on the “hedonism” word. You are so right to call that a negative connotation. It sounds very religious speaking from 1960. This is 2024. You don’t have to like it. But that doesn’t give anyone the right to talk down on individuals who choose to live so freely. Get over yourself and just stay home with your lover. No one is dragging you out of your house.

    1. I’m not judging here and I understand and support the “You do you” mentality. However, do you think having a “hedonistic” attitude/ way of thinking (as one of your commenters suggested), contributes to being perpetually single?
    2. I have to say that if you are coupled (monogamous), deciding to go on a trip like this with or without your partner is just asking for trouble. One thing I always believe to be true is that one shouldn’t unnecessarily strain a relationship.

The only reason why everyone was asking about consent, - because you can prosecute that person once you are back to US and you might have tons of issues without getting consent. It is insanely crazy here in US, when you might not get consent, - and then will be accused in raping someone.
