Chapter 1 Simon Servida was a 23 year old questioning what his purpose was. Life was getting hard for him, as he was constantly pumping out music to make a living. He had lost his passion. Little did he know, a special someone would relight the fire in his heart. It was a long day. Simon had just completed a simple trap beat. His beats were getting less and less placements, and as a result he couldn't make enough money for rent. He was living in the streets, making his beats in Starbucks. "Ding Ding!" As Simon was walking away from his computer, he heard a notification. "Who is, Cxdy?" He thought. "Sounds like a shitty soundcloud rapper." "Hey, I know you've been going through some rough shit lately, and I just wanted to let you know that you can always come over and chill with me," The email read. At first he didn't think much of it, as he didn't know Cxdy too well. Little did he know, he would become very familiar with Cxdy later on. After days of contemplation, Simon decided he would go. He rang the doorbell nervously. He had not gone outside in weeks, and his anxiety was rising. Cxdy opened the door and let him in. "Today we are gonna do some fun shit. Hey, come sit down and have a beer." "Rough times lately," Cxdy said. "Yeah, haven't made shit that pops in weeks," Simon replied. They proceeded to hop on FL Studio, and although Simon was reluctant, he knew he was having fun. In Simon's mind, Cxdy was the perfect guy. He was smart, funny, nice, and passionate about his work. After they hung out, he had been thinking about him for weeks. One day, Simon was extremely depressed. He was filled with anger and sorrow, and he knew only one person could help him. Sobbing with tears, he typed, "Cxdy, please come over right now!" Chapter 2 Coming Soon

I see myself rewatching the 4:36 part... I dont even know why it just connected with my emotions and i think thats what u tried to actually say in this vid. I wish I could create melodies like that. Keep up the good work!
He said that the kids piano would make it seem happier but it is low-key freaking me out. Turn down the bpm and I can here it being played in a horror film
Harmony is a really complex subject, I've been reading several books and doing research online, but you have done a GREAT JOB at explaining this. Congrats, that's why you are my favorite producer 💚🔥💪
I hate it when youtubers make a “tutorial” video when basically the “solution” is buying whatever they’re promoting... but damn Simon the info in this is one of the most helpful things I’ve seen in a while and I’ve gotta say this vid is nothing like what I just mentioned. This vid itself makes you one of my favorite UA-camrs! I like how instead of going along the lines of “How to solve Beat Block”! Answer: you should by sample packs, oh btw I just released a samples pack, You gave us really helpful tip and then promoted what your selling based on the tip you just gave. Really great idea! Thanks!
I just finished my elementary school, and I will continue Music High School, Audio Design, this helps a lot. Thanks Simon, I am watching every single video!
Hey just wanted say thanks. Only been watching your videos for a little while now and I've learn alot from you in this short period of time. You've been a huge help!
I know this might be random but thank you Simon! I’ve been watching your videos for about a month and I’ve noticed huge improvements in my beats pretty much had to start all over but now that I listen to my beats can’t describe the feeling it gives me.
I was in percussion and I was really good at drumline but not so much at mallets, this is the main reason. This is actually dope now that I have been out of school for a few years, I really wish I would’ve taken it more serious!
Dude I'd be so happy if you made some sort of advanced chord videos where you explain things more in depth for people on the intermediate to advanced level.
I dunno, I think it depends on who it is. The Rhodes piano made it seem way happier and more lively than the toy piano which to me significes sadness and even sounded darker. Idk, I think it's opinion based and based on your life. To me a toy piano sound means death/ sadness, to him it meant happiness like a kid on the toy piano. All im saying it's more life based on what you grew up on and what your memories were made of.
I recommend listening to the song Csárdás by Vittorio Monti. There's a switch in the song where the same melody completely changes emotion in the middle :)
Hey you think you could make a free loop kit with melodies like the first one and have a beat contest.? It would help a lot of us get exposure...thanks!
Simon Servida, could you please make a tutorial video on how to better arrange beats? Like for example, when and where to put certain instruments in the verse or chorus, and when to remove certain instruments or add a different melody.
If you could do a music theory video with just some of the logic behind the melodic structure you go with, you have such a sense for it. Like the chord progression stuff, altering chords to make them diminished for a different tone, etc
Who the fuck is disliking it literally wow why the fuck are people so jealous omg, i love the wayyy you teachhh, this is the best channel to learn new things, i lovee this channel, even told my friends about it.
i will definitely cop that loop kit. i have been into loopkit for the past couple of beats i made, so far it turned out great. hope you can check it out Simon! thanks!
actually, there is theory that can somewhat explain "happy" and "sad" harmonies and intervals. when 2 notes are played together at the same time, what happens is that the 2 sound waves interfere and create a resultant wave. depending on the ratios of the frequencies of the 2 notes, you get different sounding harmony. Since the frequency of notes work on a logarithmic scale, the ratios only depend on how far the notes are away from each other (hence a cmaj chord and a dmaj chord have the same harmonic qualities, and so forth with all other chords and intervals of the same type, e.g a diminished chord or a tritone). the simpler the ratios are, the more consonant the harmonies sound and vice versa, ie. a major third has a freq ratio of 5/4 compared to the root note, and the minor third has a freq ratio of 6/5 to the root note, making the minor third comparatively more dissonant. the most dissonant intervals are the minor second and the tritone, with ratios to the root note of 16/15 and 25/8 respectively
the "toy piano" one you did had proper eerie vibes, if you whacked reverb and delay on it and maybe a filter of some description it could be super dark
"if you use a toy piano, it may sound happier" *plays the creepiest little melody 😂
Really creepy tho
If I'm ever goin to make a horror game I would add this sound effect
5:07
But its not dat much creepi
sounds more sad to me

The number 1 thing you should mention is TEMPO...slower tempos are more likely to be SAD...and faster tempos are Happier
Number 1 and not number 17 because?
Eh not really... the tempo might change the intensity of the emotion, but changing the tempo doesn't really change the emotion.
Simon out here using Steven and Cib to show happiness is my favorite thing.
I feel like Servida couldn't make a bad song even if he wanted to. I hope everyone has a wonderful day. Stay blessed my friends.

I personally think the key you choose matters a lot too. For example, the same melody will sound a lot sadder in A major than in G major imo.
