  • Ever wondered what this strange looking vegetable is that can be spotted on the carts of your vegetable vendor? Well, The spiky green vegetable makes it naturally unattractive. However, kantola, as it is commonly known, is a monsoon vegetable which is not just healthy but also low in calories. Its scientific name is Momordica dioica, commonly known as spiny gourd or spine gourd. As it is usually found during the monsoons, it is helpful in keeping seasonal cough, cold and other allergies at bay, due to its anti-allergen and analgesic properties.
    Though It belongs to the bitter gourd family, you will be surprised that it is not bitter at all, even with the skin on.
    While everyone loves Bajji/ Pakoras, especially during the monsoons, we thought of giving it a healthy twist with this simple and easy deep fried fritters recipe made with Kantola/ Spiny Gourd.
    Serve this Kantola bajji with mint-corriander chutney or just tomato ketchup & a hot cup of TEA!
