Ahh, always nice to see a trash-picked machine come back to life with some fresh upgrades. I use these adapters in so many machines now, and the SD->IDE versions too ever since those became so foolproof. Nice to see those standalone DOS 7 releases work well and come with some useful extras! Gonna give that a try on my next DOS build.
Volkov Commander ftw! After so many years not using VC it's kinda cool how the hotkeys\shortcut still are in the fingers. like f8 to delete, alt+f1 and f2 to change drives and all that :)
I know a few people that use CF based setups. I haven't done the upgrade yet and my retro builds are still trucking on traditional hard drives (crossing my fingers they remain stable for a while!). If anything happens to them I'll definitely swap out to CF as it looks pretty easy to do and it's great how much faster things install. Thanks for the video!
I like that CF adapter, how it comes out of the back of the case. The one I was using was internal without a good way to mount it, so always worried I was going to accidentally short it out. I have a similar Pentium III machine that I still need to restore, so definitely going to grab one of those for it. Seems they are even cheaper on the actual Monoprice site!
I have a CF adapter like yours in my retro pentium 233 mmx computer. I use one 8 gb CF card for dos games and windows 3.1. I use another 8gb CF card for windows 95 games. Both cards work great in my system. It's great how I can easily swap them out.
If I knew that retro computers and CompactFlash HDD replacement would be a thing today, I would have kept my (Philips) Vendex Headstart LX-CD computer. I regret having donated it to the school when we upgraded to a new computer, and the hard disk in the Headstart was starting to show physical errors, but at the time it made sense when space is a valuable commodity. I can't even find the Headstart menu system. I'm not sure what happened to my 486 computer (dad probably tore it apart for recycling). I still have my P5 computer, though it needs the sound card replaced, the case beat up, and the CRT is dead.
(1:55) How old is this model? The system itself appears to be Y2K compliant, which is good. How sturdy is that case? I remember setting the Magnavox VGA monitor on top of an under monitor power manager, on top of my (Philips) Vendex Headstart LX-CD computer, which had a metal bar inside across the top for support. (4:23) That sounds like a situation for a relocate-the-battery solution, which I saw *LGR* do once using size AA. This is the sort of video that makes me subscribe to a channel: informative, useful, entertaining.
1:00 I hate this particular model! I have one back in a day and it was total junk at least for me. in principle; this machine recognize up to 8 GB (usual for Pentium socket 7 era) , but I had a problems with hard drives with capacity above 512MB! it was strange compatibility issue and drives about 2GB did not work currently on this BIOS even after I updated it. I was in situation like 386 hard drive limits (again 512MB) Mine configuration was socket 7 Pentuim 1 233MHz 32MB ram

I might use SD-IDE in a thin client that I've got, given that amount of space is a huge factor.
I hope this channel never ends! 👏👏👏👏👏

Oof, that's quite a price difference! Gotta amend the link in description when I get home.
Ahhh... Point of Departure by Necros! One of my favorite ScreamTracker moduls so this video was already off to a good start.
Great video Anatoly! Was happy to see this show up in my feed. :)
Gonna try it out!
I have 4 machines (486, p2, p3 and an athlon k7) i wanna make game ready ;)
Great vid!

You should try 98lite, also there are some unofficial updates to all dosbased windows on dmgx ;)

Interesting. Well, I'm happy to report that 8gb and 4gb cards seem to work perfectly fine for me on a stock bios.
