Also you must take into account the difference between American dollars, and British Pounds. Another thing to look at is the citizenship. Jagger lives primarily in the states, lower tax rate. Most English rock stars left England decades ago because of the high tax rates and are citizens of other countries for lower tax rates. Bands like The Who still live in, and are English citizens who get bent over with high tax rates. Many on this list sold their music rights for huge lump sums. Another example, Townshend was worth 125 million and then divorce. Cut his wealth in half and now built it back up to 150 million in a high tax country.

What this does not include is gross income earned over their professional career. That would interesting. For example, Paul McCartney was a millionare in 1964 and made millions every year since. So a million in 1964 was alot of money. A millionaire like Townshend earned millions years ago when money was worth something. Some of the people on this list earned their money recently. I think that I would rather have earned millions decades ago and lived decades to enjoy it.
McCartney makes money from his own immense catalogue and also from his Music Publishing business MPL. He's the largest independent Music Publishing company in the world! A very smart business man.
