I've watched your videos for years now and I'm very comfortable with taken stuff apart. Just want to say thanks, used this video as a quick guide to tearing into it.
Worked great. But you have to take out the side buttons and put them back in place before you reattach the motherboard! Also, be very careful, I cracked the bottom plastic paneling that holds the speaker. It seems to have broken in a very lucky spot though as everything is working perfectly. Thank you OP!

Itai Eiron technically not possible. this is not a build your own PC it's a phone with almost no ability to upgrade or swap internal parts

Awesome video! I have a question about repairs, my 5x took a dive in the ocean and I think the Salt got the worst of it. Can I essentially replace the whole phone if everything is salt damaged?

I thought about doing one, but then people would compare it directly with flagship devices. And I dont think thats fair with a midrange phone. I gave it a test 'flex' though, and I do think its bendable.
+JerryRigEverything I wish you'd do a bend test. My biggest gripe with the Nexus 5 is, that it started bending a week after I bought it, by just having it in my front pocket. They seem to have fixed a few issues though. The button placement on the sides for example.

Hey jerry, i had this phone and it went into a boot loop so i can't use it anymore, a quick search on the internet i found out that many people have this problem, can u do videos on how to fix popular problems with rather dated phones? Phones are getting ridiculously expensive and I don't want to spend a thousand dollars every year on a smartphone.

the bootloop is the saddest issue i had with my Nnexus, it definitely needs to be explained in a video
I have some problems connecting to the camera: sometimes the app just crashes, more often the phone reboots. If I shake the phone I can eat something trembling near the camera. The common opinion is that I have to replace the motherboard: do you think it's worth it to try and open my phone? Maybe, if I'm lucky, I'll just have to reconnect the camera to the motherboard without switching anything.

You may have heard a while back on the XDA forums someone sent their phone to china to be repaired and it came back up with 3 or 4GB of ram, they upgraded it for a small fee.
Can you make a video on how to do that? Maybe we can get some extra life out of the 5X.

Hi Jerry,actually my Nexus 5x behave unevenly when I put the ear phone in the audio jack...it lowers down the volume and if I tried to up the volume it again lower down...could u please tell what may be the problem...

Wanted to know if there is any way easier to repair the burned dark spot that i just had, by keeping the handset on the dashboard of my heated car, Plus it was getting charged, ultimately got my screen messed with two 2 cm burned areas,.
dont want to change my screen just as of yet. Any quick fix if there is any .

Help!! I followed the instructions as closely as I could and did the extra step of moving over my buttons and LED. As soon as I finished reassembly, I tried to turn on my 5x but was getting flashing red lights from the bottom LED - low battery, I guess. I plugged it in, but couldn't get a display - just the flashing lights. I let it charge overnight and this morning I get no display, no lights, the area around the batter and fingerprint scanner is SUPER hot, and every few seconds I get a clicking sound (Like someone is typing or the fingerprint scanner is being used?) even though no one is touching it. :(
You didn't leave the replacement battery in the description?
So basically this has a pretty simple-to-remove back? that's not bad even though it still doesn't give you access to SD card expansion or removable battery...
A weird question to Jerry (I wonder if he can read this, haha). I have dropped my phone and the volume button has bend - now the vol UP does not work and vol DOWN is incredibly sensitive. Jerry, do you think I can succeed in making in straight again when I open the phone? Thanks for answer :D
Thanks a lot for this helpfull video! One small addition: you forgot the notification LED on the button. I changed my screen (original LG LCD module) and I also had to transfer the LED. It's simple to do but you better not forget it in the first place.
I've got this phone and yesterday is was working fine. the battery ran out which is nothing new with the phone, but trying to charge it again was the start of the end. Upon plugging in the cable, the notification light was flashing red and to my understanding, this was the phone not recognizing the battery. I carefully opened up the phone which i have done a few times before and disconnected the battery ribbon, and reattached it and the phone began to charge after reconstruction. But i notice now the power and volume buttons no longer work, and upon opening the phone up again, there was no damage of disconnection from the motherboard. Would you know why this has happened?

My wife cracked her screen about a month after we got ours and I've finally found a replacement display + digitizer on Amazon but it doesn't look like it comes with the plastic frame. I think I can handle this myself except for one part: What did you mean about the frame when you said "just heat it up and remove it from the display"? Once off, how would I attach it to the new display? Thanks in advance!
+J Jones The display you ordered will most likely have preinstalled adhesive on the back already. To heat up the old screen (To remove the LCD and reuse the frame...) you are best off watching my Note 5 screen repair to see how it is done. +JerryRigEverything Thanks for the response. I got one from ifixit with the frame intact. Cost a bit more but worth it. The only thing missing is if you're moving all the parts to a new display, don't forget the LED over the bottom speaker and the rubber housing for the proximity sensor on top. Other than those oversights, repair was a piece of cake.
Will you be doing a Nexus 5X torture test? If so, better watch out for Nexus fanboys like with the 6P, they're some of the worst around ;)

What is necessary about the 15 piece tool set on Amazon you linked to? I already have jewelers phillips screwdrivers and a spudger will come with the replacement screen. Torx aren't need for the disassembly.

+Aaron Windle the back cover also has the flash dispersion, laser range finder cover, and camera glass built into it. Why ruin a good phone with a cover?
+Polite Society I've dropped my phone in the past so an aftermarket protective case makes sense in my case. Wasn't sure if the back cover and case together would create heat issues since I drive a lot with Maps and the phone can be exposed to more sunlight. Seems there is more functionality built into the factory back cover these days. Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.

Oh Jerry, please be careful. Nexus fanboys are probably the most vicious of all fanboys. If you don't praise and glorify their device, they'll tear you up and rip you to pieces.
You're not the only one to be under their attack. Errica Griffin once complained that the the Nexus 6 had burn in issues and boy did they ferociously attack, it was really upseting to watch. I hate it.
Your regular viewers know that you're an honest and candid & dedicated man. All their calls of 'fake' and being paid to tarnish the Nexus 6p image are just fanboys being fanboys.

I had a mug leak overnight that left a tea stain on my screen. It's perfect other than for the stain, but it has screwed up the touch screen. Not sure if there is any easy way to remove the screen and clean it.
