400 is fine. I hear 410 is the highest you should really go.
And that hair burns at anything over 450. So keeping it under anything like 420 seems to be best.
But I guess you got girls out here turning that hot comb ALLLLLLLL the way up!

Unfortunately naturally my hair is not very tame so it's kind of wavy in random places. On the bright side it's definitely healthy since I've started using ogx coconut stuff
I keep mine at 350 🫶🏾I honestly get my hair straight because I wrap it when I'm done ✅

Linwood hunty, I think that if we loved the natural state of our “hair” more then we wouldn’t be trying to fry it like bacon all the time. If it’s curly we want it straight, if it’s straight we want curly hair. If it’s thick we want thin, if it’s thin we want thick. If it’s light we want it dark, if it’s dark we want it light. Linwood sometimes I think us women are crazy. I know men can trip about their hair but we got them beat😂😂😂😂Thank God for someone like you with good sense❤️

Listen to Linwood, I wish I knew what Ive learned from him 8yrs ago when I did the big chop. His advice has saved me coin, frustration, and has stopped me from paying any attention to some of these kitchenticians, that have you putting stuff in your hair that belongs in a fruit salad.

It's unfathomable that so many use extreme heat like this. Damage occurs at a much lower temp than most people think.

I think this needs to be clarified. I am not sure if this is the whole video or a clip. If your hair is natural and you have tight curly hair, I believe they call it 4C hair. You would the flat iron, hot comb or curling iron to be hot enough to straighten your hair. Remember when hair was being pressed with a straightening comb and a marcel curling iron which was used after the hair was straighten. No one’s hair ever fell out.
If you have a relaxer, then you should absolutely not have the devil’s curling iron on your hair. The relaxer already changed the texture of your hair, which I believe makes your hair weak. Applying a very hot curling iron is not helping to improve the texture of your relax hair. All it will do is cause breakage and split ends.
People need to do the damp rag test. If you place an hot iron on a damp rag and it burn the rag, that is what it will do to your hair.
People need to clean their curling iron, flat iron and straightening combs. There are hair products stuck to the different types of irons which cause it to get on the hair.
Used 365 for my edges. Went to bed. It reverted. Lesson learnt 😭 I just can’t have nice things. (Seriously I never go beyond 400. Been there learnt that😢)

Tell this to the stylist too. I went to a stylist who claims to work on natural hair for the first time to get a silk press. I saw and felt smoke. I haven’t washed my hair yet but am scared she damaged my hair. I won’t be going back to her.
She probably also had too much product on your hair as well
I don’t even turn my space heater to that temperature😂 I never tried straightening my hair not even with a blow dryer I use it for it’s purpose getting rid of excess water.

There’s a “popular” licensed cosmetologist on UA-cam that uses 450° on all her clients, does more than 1 pass. It does not take that much heat! I always use 370° and my hair turns out great
Yes!!! I just watched one of her vids and she burned her poor client 3 times and then blamed the client for moving. I was like GURL! She did not move. Your iron is hot as hell! Her client said “it’s the 450 for me!” 😂

Just so y’all know according to Dyson’s webpage, heart protein is denatured at 237C. Water boils at 100C so just think about how hot your iron is to damage your hair.

Hiyah! Serious question: if the curling and flat irons only have levels (1-20, for instance) how do I know what the temperature is?
It kind of depends on the maximum heat of the appliance. Start around 12 and test a small piece. If not straight, go up a number or two and test another small section. Never use 18-20, not necessary!
I love him! I’ve been trying to tell my fam for years you don’t need a smoking flat iron to straighten.
Mine came with a guide stating what number range goes with what degree range. Like 1 thru 5 = 200-270 degrees
