*It has come to our attention that Sebastian Abreu has never played for Atletico Madrid. He played for Deportivo La Corunà and Real Sociedad whilst his time in Spain*
As a South African I can assure you Diego Forlan left his mark in our country to those of us who witnessed his magic in 2010. The streets of Mzansi will never forget.
Forlán was a good in that 2010 World Cup. I’m Mexican but I went on to support that magical Uruguay team that was absolutely stacked and could have honestly won it all. Shout out to Diego Forlán he helped kindle my love for football
I'm no professional player, but my friends and I had the Jabulani and we played often with it. It was the best ball we've ever experienced, especially because it was so easy to curl
forlan was the only one who practiced with that ball while the others didnt even try to understand the ball. so the others shouldnt complain it is a great ball that works different than others and only works with proper technique
Not only Forlan, there are other players who had practiced the Jabulani ball before the tournament started, like germany they managed the Jabulani ball too good and dominating the whole tournament on fire.
I saw the title and i knew right away about who this video wil go. Diego Forlan is such a underrates baller. My fav player ever. And he was a wizard with the Jabulani and his dedication training with the ball get him the award player of the tournament at the 2010 WC, well deserved for this amazing player.
The Jabulani will forever have a safe space in my heart. I dont watch football that much except international tournaments but this world cup really stood out for me. And Diego Forlan was amazing back then. Cant believe it's already 14 years ago. Good times lol.
I'm a South African who was 21 at the time.. this moment brings tears to my eyes.. I was at work that day we all had a TV going.. When it went in I was hugging and doing high 5's with strangers.. My usually reserved and strict boss was jumping up and down shouting for joy There was happy tears and smiles on many faces! Time really stood still for 10 seconds that day but those ten seconds felt like an hour of joy.. One of the best days if my life
As a Mexican i always admired Forlan a supreme player that did not complain he just played the game and showed the world that when you are good you don't make excuses.
As a fellow knuckle ball enthusiast, I would agree with Forlan's assessment of the ball. It was hard to master but as I got the hang of it, I didn't want to play with anything else and everyone hated me for it.
That player never gives up practicing with the Jabulani ball until he finally understands it how to shoot carefully. Because keep practicing makes better shooting goals.
Yea, still infuriating to this day how the team that earned their semi-finals appearance (would've been the first time an African team made it that far too) were blatantly robbed by someone who clearly doesn't even have the word "sportsmanship" in his vocabulary.
I remember being 12 and getting the Fevernova Official Match Ball (2002), THAT was a ball true to strike, me and my Dad were totally blown away by our own shot power and accuracy... and then this mess happened YEARS later :D
Ofc, a ball a can have such massive impact on a player's performance. Being a good enough player myself, a good chunk of what i do are instinctive muscle memory. And what i tried a professional football(which is comparably lighter than the ball i am used to) i struggled a good bit. It is not significant enough that a normal player would become the greatest ever, but it is enough to create at least a tiny difference
it would be really good to see FIFA telling football players before the world cup to train with the ball soo we couldve seen some impressive goals like from Van Bronckhorts , Forlan , Tshabalala...
i have this ball, and back when i used to use it i would notice the weird way it would sway in the air at random moments ect. but it comes genuinely down to practice using this ball. I understand the frustration with how annoying the ball is but honestly practicing with it, you start to understand how the ball works and how you need to hit it. also the ball is a little heavier to hit compared to literally any other ball ive played with in my life. which was alot of the reason it would stay in the air a bit longer. Forlan was smart to practice with the ball months before the world cup, that no doubt was the reason he was able to slam those amazing shots from miles out. he had experience with how unpredictable it can be and figured how to use it. not to mention the way forlan played before like the vid says, this ball is legit perfect for knuckle balls and players that go for howlers.
the only thing i dont understand is the passes stat. from using this ball myself it was perfect on the ground. like a normal ball, the only thing that was different was the way the ball acted in the air. or if you tried putting spin on a ground pass.
The worst part about that World Cup wasn’t the ball…it was the damn horns. Vuvzuelas….. I remember playing with an official word cup ball that year in club….I had no issues with it.
Forlan was absolutely the best player in 2010 World Cup but I don't think he was the only player to have control of Jabulani, Kaka also played really well- his passing, shots, assists control everything great- Same with Sneijder
TBH they should have just renamed the teamgeist in Zulu and painted it south african colors and went with that. Such a perfect ball. My friends and I pitched in after the world cup, I paid 50 they all paid 5 and I got to keep the ball, but we all used it during pickup games.
*It has come to our attention that Sebastian Abreu has never played for Atletico Madrid. He played for Deportivo La Corunà and Real Sociedad whilst his time in Spain*
To be fair, Abreu played in almost every club in the world
Btw. David Villa also mastered the jabulani as well as Forlan. For some reason everyone forgets that
@@Leonardohummel 😂😂😂
Zulu is not the most spoken or biggest 1st language in south africa, that would be english and afrikaans respectively.
Waka waka
Man literally nearly led his squad to glory because he was willing to put all his time and effort to perfect the aerodynamics of a ball.

2010 was the best and 2022 the worst world cup I've witnessed
2022 was a terrible world cup, one of the worst ever.

Diego Forlan was a different breed that World Cup!
He was class!
I loved Forlan as a player. His time at Man United was not a great success but you could tell he was a class act
He’s underrated!

There is no better love story than that of Diego Forlan and the Jabulani ball.
A match made in heaven
Man, that ball and Forlan were a match made in heaven. It's like they wee born by the same mother.
Agreed 💯
Forlan has just made me realized that: Instead of blaming the condition: Adopt, change, and win.
A valuable lesson for all!
He didn't win tho
@@LaVaZ000 for the purposes of this video he did
You forgot one important point: he had access to the ball way before the rest of the players and was training with it. That's a huge advantage

CR7 and Messi are clearly 2 of football GOATs. But my personal GOAT 🐐 is Diego Forlan since that 2010 WC. I was flabbergasted.
