What a wonderful sight which brought back many memories. I grew up in Ethiopia where my father worked for the Imperial Ethiopian Air Force in the 1950's. From the two bases in Bishoftu & Asmara (Eritrea) I saw B17's fly on a regular basis. 👍
@@shootmcrunfastwhy waste weight on separate control runs and hinges when you can dopt a simple system like this. Folland used the same idea with the Gnat. Though in their case it was just the main gear doors which entailed a separate control system.
i just saw it hours ago and I thought it was going to be one of those fly bys straight and level and slow and walked away to get a drink and suddenly this guy is flying this big airplane - because it looks big- in this beautiful loops and super vertical maneouvers, it was fantastic. The video sound gives no justice of course. The engines in person give out this thunder and rumble one can feel in the whole body.
A very good showing and one that I've never heard of. Outstanding aircraft with some great climbing ability & very quiet. Thanks for posting some unique history
@@BritishMilitariathey have brought this over before. I can't remember what year it was but I have photos of it which I took at the time. They also have a B18 which they brought over (I think it was the following year).

This plane definitely wins the “most aerodynamically improved when the gear is retracted” award.
The fairings were intended to double up as dive brakes.

is it up there with the Short Stirling and AVRO Anson though?
I was there today in person to see this, was a cracking show it was.
First time I've seen one. I love it! (when the landing gear is up). It sounds great; reminds me of a Vought "Kingfisher".
Great photography, too. 👍👍
Fabulous display from a great aeroplane!

I was there today and a great display i must say
Definitely wins the "most reluctant undercarriage" award!
nice looking plane - funny "trousered" undercart ! I would like to see one with floats .
Me too, I love float planes.
Pretty sure this plane flew over my house in the New Forest a few days ago. An impressive site as it was quite low.
Thank you . Fascinating aeroplane.
Excelente avión me e encantó.gracias😊
Love how the Swedes and French almost always used their own aircraft back in the first half of the 20th century
They still do. Sweden - Gripen. France - Rafale. Etc.
@@-NiEr I know , but now they also use other countries aircraft.. especially Sweden … Hercules Gulfstream , UH-60 and so on.
@@guaporeturns9472 True, Sweden has for example sent their SAAB S 100D Argus aircraft to Ukraine... Replaced by Bombardier Global 6000 in Sweden.

The whole century for the French and second half for swedes
Frightful tailwheel shimmy -something for the engineers to get their teeth into.
Bloody well flown display though. Very impressive.
That's a very rare bird!
"there is quite a lot of American influence in it as well" yeah it looks somewhere between a Texan and a Helldiver but built for snow.
I would say that there's even some SB2U Vindicator design cues in there as well.
The B17 not so many are familiar with 🤠
Would have made a Good Val. Cool Aircraft!
I love Duxford.but I hate taking 3 hours to get out.sort it out planners!!!!
Looks like an AI drawn helldiver
8:48 that feeling of having a shopping cart with wobbly wheels 😖
Awesome
There's more than one B17
thank the gods for zoom lenses eh!......
Wh owns this plane today?
Swedish Air Force Historic Flight (SwAFHF).
@@bengtmowitz5012 interesting. How come they came across

ASEA is pronounced aseea not assea though (me being swedish)...
A see aah?
No, it should be ASJA Svenska Järnvägsverkstädernas Aeroplanavdelning (Swedish Railway Workshops' Aeroplan department).
@@mickaellundgren6390First time hearing that name (ASJA). Is it pronounced letter by letter or as a word? "a-s-j-a" or "aas-ja" then?

SWEDISH MONGREL of SB2C & OS3U
A plane that flew in danish markings that the danish airforce never got......(Google the danish brigade)
Perhaps, the most ugly plane that I've seen in my life.
They ripped off B-17 from the most famous airplane in the American world
No.
