Wow, this has been the best review for X3 30e because 1) there are only few reviews for this model, 2) there is zero review on the vehicle's bottom part and 3) this is the first ever review that shared the pedestrian warning sound. Great review!
Just found your review online. I bought my 2021 BMW X3 X drive 30e October of last year and I absolutely love it. I was a little discouraged that BMW chose not to continue the manufacturing in the US market and only Europe for 2022 as it is a great hybrid vehicle, and your review was spot on. I buzz around Hawaii Island all electric on short runs, and the mix mileage is awesome particularly now with fuel prices. Great review and I hope support for the 30e and parts will never be an issue. Aloha
Very good info. My question is about charging using home 120v. In the setting up menu, BMW has it set to low, but there are other options. What do they mean?
Thank you for pointing out the battery density 34Ah. X5 45e used a battery with 68Ah density. I'm no technical person but wonder if they share the same form factor of battery and 45e doubles battery capacity of X3 30e because of the 2x density. It seems technically BMW could easily upgrade X3 30e's battery by going with higher density. Cost might be the only reason why they didn't do that.
@@bmwblog I wish BMW offered 30e with a big battery like 45e by charging a few thousand dollars more. The net price after tax credit will still be reasonable. That will make 30e a much more desirable PHEV with close to 40 miles EV range, yet still more affordable than 45e. Instead BMW discontinued x3 xdrive30e in US market. What a disappointing move!!
On the road trip, in Auto drive mode, will it maintain battery charge or will it eventually deplete? If the battery is drained and you set it to the battery control mode where it keeps a minimum battery level, will it charge up to that level?
Driving the X3 30e out on the open road, it gradually depletes from full to about 1-2 miles. It never really went much below 1-2 miles as every time you slow down, the energy regen recharges the battery a little. You can choose Battery Control and over about 20 min of hwy driving refill the battery to whatever % you chose and keep it there. I never really did that until I got close to a national park as I wanted some electric driving in the park. Driving on wide-open roads in SD and now even around town in Auto E-drive the battery drains from full rather quickly then the battery stays in 1-2 miles of range. The Battery is usually drained by the first 25 miles of driving for me now even in town. I estimate that it gets approximately 2 miles per kWh . 9 kWh of useable battery so roughly 17-18 miles of EV driving. Chuck (from the vid)
Kinda wanna know how the mpg goes when it has no battery charge left. Seem like the battery is very low. Now I’m not sure if it is a good idea to drive the car thru a flooding road. Any idea how it would hold up?
On the highway, we averaged 33 mpg without charging the battery. The battery never really goes empty as it gets some charge every time you slow down. We traveled about 600 miles in one-day w/o any plugin charging. BMW seals the battery and is fine to go thru some water but the deepest BMW says is about 18". If you go over that, it may come in the cabin and get in the air intake and wreck the gasoline motor. - Chuck (from the vid)
curious to the options this model had in the video... I have a 30e Xline model on order but not sure it comes with the fully digital consol or the partial digital consol.. anyone know ?
Hi Andy. This is a 2021 X3 xDrive30e. Options were just 3 Mineral White Metallic, Executive Pack & Heated Rear Seats. The Ex Pk - has a ton of options in it - heated steering wheel, comfort keyless access, panoramic moon roof, lumbar support, front/rear heated seats, ambient lighting, LED lights, Parking asst, Head-Up Display, Gesture Control, Active Park Distance Control, Surround 3D View. The rest of the stuff was standard. Total MSRP was $57,695. Minus a $5836 fed tax rebate, $3500 back from BMW for financing w/ them, $500 back from BMW CCA, and additional discount from the dealer made it seem like a deal to me!

Great to hear!
I got this car and I LOVE it!
Nice. Good choice!
Quite a detailed review, perhaps the only one to even lift the BMW up and examine the bottom design in detail. well done.
Glad you liked it!
Picking mine up tomorrow! Thanks for the review
Hope you enjoy it! What color did you choose?
@@bmwblog blue. I absolutely love it so far. My only criticism is I wish it had a bit more range like then X5e
Any idea why BMW detuned the gasoline engine in this hybrid vs the regular 30i?
Likely to get better MPG
yeah it was for better MPG, but with battery boost it is faster 0-60 mph :)

You can restrict the rate of charging.

Cost is likely the reason. Those battery packs are not cheap

Great review of a vehicle I would love to own. Also, thanks for visiting South Dakota 🌷
Our pleasure! Glad it was useful!

At this price point the front suspension should be double wishbone
So what’s the conclusion?
The best X3 to own today!
It comes standard with run flat tires. I’d rather regular tires with a donut.
I believe most new BMWs, if not all, come with run flats. Unless it's a performance tire
@@bmwblog I’m finding that out. Also Lexus, and I’m sure more. I don’t like it.
@@TheRothka12306 It has been like that for years, unfortunately. Saving money and also weight
I test drove one...👉💩
