This is our little love letter to our label's patron saint, the great jazz pioneer Slim Gaillard, without whom we literally wouldn't be "Yep Roc" Records!
In 1997, Glenn Dicker and Tor Hansen co-founded Yep Roc Records, naming the label after one of Slim Gaillard's most recognized songs, "Yep Roc Heresy." The two had bonded over a shared love of Slim's music while they were starting their careers at Rounder Records, and even named their band "The Vouts" as a nod to Slim "McVouty" Gaillard, who invented his own "Vout" language. When it came time for Glenn and Tor to choose a name for their own label, it was Slim Gaillard - a symbol of their friendship and love for music - who once again provided inspiration.
Slim's influence on Yep Roc stretches far beyond our name. As we look back on 25 years as a label, we recognize Slim's creativity and trailblazing spirit that has inspired us at every step towards where we are today, and where we hope to be in the future.
