Summary
The film centers around the discovery of a new technique that allows people to work productively while they sleep. We follow a young artist named Kip who stumbles across this technique and uses it to escape the tedium of his day job.
Synopsis
A new technique has been discovered that allows people to work while they sleep. What starts out as an effective means of escaping the tedium of daily routines soon gets out of hand and starts to put a population into autopilot.
Production
The short film was created entirely by Luke Angus. From script, storyboarding, character design, concept art, set designs, modeling, rigging, texturing, lighting, animation, rendering, editing and compositing, the entire process took around 11 months to produce the 7-minute short film. The only outsourcing was for the original score and sound design which was created by the award winning composer, Garry Ferrier.

Taking "wake up and live your dreams" to another level
At first, when he was sleep working I was like, "what in the hell is happening with this story?". But then at the 'five years later' part, I realized what 'sleep working' really means.
We're so focused in getting the work done (a lot of work) that we're slowly losing grip of what we're really doing it for or what we're passionate for. We just realize a few years later that we've been doing our job like a robot and forget to do what we love to do.

dragonvale19, no, i know. I hate fast food jobs and office jobs. But, if i have a messy room, I'd totally sleep work to be able to do my chores. Lol
It's funny how you wish for this. I have Narcolepsy and it's pretty much what life feels like a lot of the time, except for the fact that you can't wake up form it. Believe me, it's not all it's cracked up to be!

Truly deep aspect...no words yet a picture paints a thousand words..deep meaningful animation.. wake up and do what you love..and love what you do.. dont rush through years of your lives like a robot so you dont regret that life has flew by. Love the little things in life. Many people always want that big happy moment but forget the many little happy moments that pass you by.. there is someone always less fortunate than yourselves whom would love to to be in our situation. Yet people always want more.. be content and happy with what you have in life.. it truly is a privilige. Truly as for not being born in war ridden countries with poverty hunger and no clothes food water and living in constant fear.. may we all be blessed ameen
It's exactly what happens in our lives, time goes by too fast while where are focusing on our work which steals our lives and passions, and when we wake up into this spiral, we realize that we wasted a very long time seeking stuff, maybe we need, but not what we really want. It's a great movie!

I’m guessing his home goes into foreclosure in the sequel. He spends his days creating sidewalk murals with chalk for spare change and sleeps in a homeless shelter. I say that as an aspiring artist who would rather do something else during the work day. Reality dictates hat only a few deeply passionate and very talented folks will make a living through art. But more power to you Sir!

sleeping in the concept of working is basically presentation of not loving the job, no passion for the job, while those times that he is awake and doing drawings (which is his passion) is representation of how lively he is when his doing his passion(job) that he really loves.
In our society paradigm, being practically is the only way to survive... even though you dont like your job, you will still do it for survival reason, not for living...
I sure hope his art will pay the mortgage, groceries, clothes, phone bill, cable bill, car payment, gasoline, house repairs, kids college fund, and the dog food. Good luck to you Buddy!

How could someone dislike such a good animation?
Why was it award winning?
1) Absolutely unique concept. I have never seen this done before. Yes, the concept of a wake-up call is well known, but the idea of sleeping through your work while getting it all done faster than ever is entirely new to me.
2) Wonderful presentation. Each step in the story clearly presented.
3) Quality of animation, very good. Way better than Power Puff Girls, a show that I wished an early death, but which lasted way longer than it should have.
4) Strong flavor of Dilbert, which hits too close to home for me. That gives it a high level of reality. Yes, bosses can be like that, and you can look up 5 years later and wonder why you're in that situation.
- Power puff girls was 2d animation, they aren't really comparable, and the animation was extremely slow and dull
- Even if it was a unique concept and had a sense of relatability, that doesn't necessarily make it a good or interesting story
- Overall It was extremely predictable and boring, which in my opinion cancels out however good you think the animation was

it didn't have a budget, 1 person made it. but yeah if a studio made it could have been amazing.

Great video! Everyone needs to have a hobby or a passion. Giving up on your job is quite extreme though. Finding a point of balance is the key to a happy life.
He is the luckiest person on Earth, He got to do the things he loved, AND at work he went to sleep WHILE working, so cool. I wish I could do that in school.

Sometimes we do what we do to survive. What we need is to balance the xxyfgr work and do what we love until we are comfortable enough to stick that note on the boss' forhead: time to wake up. Peace!

I can see as to why this short film production is Award Winning! The cinematography is outstanding! Being tired in a job by being half awake and half asleep is by no means effective. Some people only attend work for the money but the moral of the story here is if you aren't appreciated in the workplace and have a passion in doing something you both like and good at then you should follow your dream! There needs to be a combination of good performance and enjoyment exactly like work and play. Too much work makes Tom a dull unhappy boy and too much play makes Tom dull unhappy boy. I liked the ending of Kip leaving and doing something he both liked and did well. Given a well deserved 'Like' ✔
