I have this cookbook. You are special and am glad you enjoy sharing vintage recipes with your fans. I just received very thick bacon from a food pantry today. I'll attempt to make this.
This book was a bride gift at the dept store where I registered my wedding gift registry in 1977. I cooked my way backwards and forwards through this book. I still have it and am using it occasionally now that we are empty nesters. The beef stew is good, even though the base is tomato soup. I add sliced mushrooms to the stew and serve with a green salad buttered and crusty French bread. BTW that chocolate cake IS good.
Yes. Bride and groom are the "Two" eating together in the old days. My Mom made 8 servings for dinner as a newlywed since she cooked for a big family as a girl. Dad enjoyed it and gained weight in marriage after leaving military service. Happily married 65 years!!
The hotdog with cheese baked in a triangle-folded slice of bread, - my school lunch program served these and the called them [wait for it] : WIENER-WINKS.
I was so excited about this video! I have this cookbook but haven't tried any recipes yet. I'll definitely be making these! You're such a gem to watch Anna, so upbeat, and your puppy is beautiful too! I hope your surgery and recovery go very well. Thanks Anna!!!
Your now famous Bacon Big Boys were a little harder to assemble than thought, but they were good. The original heating times were correct in a regular oven, top rack close to the heating element. Only took an extra 5 minutes on one of the sides to get the crispy surface. As a guy, I like easy and delicious. This fit the bill. 😋
Reminisce magazine used to have a monthly section of recipes devoted to "Cooking for Two". Is that magazine still around? Nursing home residents I knew in the 80s subscribed.
My Mom used to make something similar to this. It was a hot dog bun, opened up flat, with baked beans spread across, a hot dog split in half and layered on top , and a slice of cheese on top of that. She baked them to melt the cheese. My brother and I loved them
Better Homes and Gardens COOKING FOR TWO cookbook is full of great recipes. Would you please consider doing another couple of recipes from this cookbook??? Thanks a bunch!!! Love your channel.
Just happened across your videos this morning and spent way too much time watching them but now have some great ideas that I want to try! Great job, you are engaging, down to earth, funny with a good sarcasm/wit to you while providing some simple and useful recipes! Love it! It usually takes me a while to subscribe… not this time! Off to the grocery store to get some Bacon Big Boy fixings and some other 60’s sandwiches ingredients 😂 thank you!
Grateful to have found you! So much fun! I grew up in the 70/80's (1969) and this brings me back... big time! Not the dogs or big boy thing, hahaha, but your channel and all the things... thank you! Peace from the Berkshires, Massachusetts
The recipe you were wondering about was called, pigs in a blanket. My mom would use Pillsbury crescent rolls to wrap around the hot dogs, she would slit the hot dog lengthwise and put a slice of cheese in the hot dogs, the wrap them in crescent rolls. Grew up with crescent roll hot dogs at birthday parties, great memories. Definitely will be making this recipe! My son and my grandson would love this recipe!
I just pulled this cookbook out for another video (that one should be coming out in a couple of weeks!) and thought about making these again! So delicious, and one of those "hmm why didn't I think of that?" recipes. I've made them for gatherings a couple of times and people love them!
Dottie cracked me up when she just rolled over. 😂Dogs are so funny. I'm going to make these tomorrow. I know Steve will love them. I love the Cooking for Two cookbooks too since it is just us and 5 dogs. I don't have this cookbook yet. I do have some Better Homes and Gardens though that I love.
Yippee a new video- you had me at bacon and then you pulled me in even more with big boy!!!! I just love learning about these cookbooks!!!! I love sharing recipes like this with my special person in my life!!!
Fun channel. I still have one of my first cook books, purchased in the late 70's. Probably '79. It's a Sunset cook book, "Cooking for Two...or Just for You". I just pulled it out, and I think I'm going to revisit a few of the recipes. A lot of them still hold up, others not so much.
I really enjoyed this one! Wow, they look so delicious! Poor Dottie wasn’t in the mood to frolic this time around. It was great to see her, though. Thanks for sharing! ❤️
Those look great and since I have that book, I need to make it and also check out some of the other receipes you went over. I believe the book IS in fact part of a series and belongs to one including "Dinner for Three", "Outdoor Cooking", "Good and Easy", "Dinner in a Dish", and "Hostess Cookbook".
New to your channel. Love that you review vintage cookbooks! How fun !! Your dog is so cute !!! Those bacon big boys look so good !! New friend, excited to see more videos.
I see you have Aldi cheese, and something that may help with the crisping is using their Appleton Farms pre-cooked bacon. It's very thin, but it crisps wonderfully in a skillet, and the thinness may crisp better during baking. Even if it doesn't, it's pre-cooked and safe to eat, and frankly, AF makes delicious bacon and hams. I think this is the same cookbook that I found Beef With Wine in (I renamed it Beef au Vin when I made my recipe card, so it may not be that exactly.) It's basically baked burger patties with a red wine sauce, but it was so good. I really need to make that again.
Now we can buy 1/4 pound hotdogs, but in the 60s and 70s, there were only 8 per one pound package (2 ounce dogs). So you would just buy the quarter pound hotdogs today.

Thank you for the recommendations! I'll have to check out the stew.

Maybe cook them on a rack, that fits in your cookie sheet, for more even baking and to prevent soggy bottoms?
That's what I was thinking too. :)
Lovely to see Miss Dottie ❤
BBQ sauce would be good..especially a sweet bourbon
The hotdog with cheese baked in a triangle-folded slice of bread, - my school lunch program served these and the called them [wait for it] : WIENER-WINKS.
Loved your little happy dance while tasting this recipe. Always love the Dottie breaks

I’m in love with this channel!
Angels on Horseback! I have made these wrapping the hotdog and cheese in bacon, cooking in the oven, then putting them on buns

"Rich Boy Sandwich" sounds like a play on the classic Louisiana "Po' Boy"
I love your videos and ms Dottie
I have that little cornflower pan! I use it to make gravy. These sammiches would go great in a air fryer
Toothpick the start of the bacon and then wrap so they are easier and less awkward to wrap.

Using the fully cooked bacon would work. It crisps up really well. Love your show.
Great idea! and thank you for watching! ❤
My favorite words “these are delicious” LOL which means I will give them a try soon 😉

Thanks so much
Thanks for watching! These were so, so good. I ended up making them for a small 4th of July gathering we had, and they were a hit!

She was simply too exhausted from napping all day! 😄I hope you and Steve enjoy these!
Those look phenomenal. I will most definitely have to try them.
They are SO good. I've made them for parties and people love 'em! It's very easy to prep a try of them and then back them off later in the day.

"Special friend" FTW😉
I did have that book, I have no idea what ever became of it!
I love it! I just filmed another video with it that should be out very soon.

Those would be fun for a football game watching party. Maybe next time use ciabatta rolls.

Seems to me that a light drizzle of maple syrup could be a worthwhile addition.😊

Googled the Slim Jim Salad Mold. I wish I could unsee that.
Oh dear! 😂
Anna, those bacon big boys look really good. Can't go wrong with bacon.
@@cooking_the_books and to think the recipe was from a vintage cookbook. 😄
I grew up eating that chocolate fudge cake!!
Can you use other type of sausage in place of the frankfurter? I think it would be interesting to try
I think you could sub in your favorite and it would work beautifully!
I think I made those a couple of years ago and liked it, but I'm just never cooking for more than one usually.
Pigs in a Blanket were the hot dog/crescent roll goodies!
Good thing you had thin bacon!
Not sure what this says about us humans but both my dogs past and present doesn't like hot dogs.Your videos are so much fun.Rest in peace Dottie.
Oh my gosh, that's funny about the hot dogs! 😂
Thank you for your kindness. I miss Dottie every single day.
One of those and a bottle of mustard and I’d be good to go!!
Love it! , *_Big Thumbs Up_* from a fellow (food) content creator!! *_Liked and Subbed!!_* Greets from The Netherlands!! Jan
4 gelatin molds surprises me. I’m amazed at some of the recipes they actually had
First here for Anna! =)
@@cooking_the_books There's a joke that goes something like that...
"My GF works at the zoo. She's a keeper!" hahahaha

Dottie lol 😂
Maybe bake them on a rack set in a baking pan so the bacon grease drips in the baking sheet rather than soaking into the bun?
☕️ ❤ 🥓 ❤
nyimak bos sehat sllu
🥓🥓🥖🥖👍😊💕💕
Omg they look awesome. I've always put bacon IN the hot dog 🌭 . How stupid am I? Needz a little ketchup tho.
I would add ketchup not mustard
Interesting recipe. Seems like it would be too salty.
The "Slim Jim" mold, wonder if they named it after the lockout tool? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slim_jim_(lock_pick)
