- This video delves into the details of treating mental issues with Acceptance and Commitment Therapy compared to Metacognitive Therapy.
Of course, there are many levels and nuances to both theories that aren't mentioned in this video to keep it concise. If you're interested in reading more about ACT vs. MCT, read this post: metacognitivetherapycentral.c...

I'm glad you made the video I asked for. Thank you very much Shang, everyday I am more of a fan of your channel!
i'm so so so SO happy you made this video. ❤❤❤ ACT, DBT, CBT, BAT, etc, don't seem to really get it that people who suffer from depression, anxiety, OCD, etc, just want to stop suffering. and all the myriad thought gimmicks that these approaches use are overwhelming and, to be honest, not do-able on a long-term (or even short or medium-term) basis, and when the sufferer fails with them, they end up feeling worse and more hopeless. the main concern of people who suffer from depression, anxiety, OCD, etc, is not to learn how to 'live their best life' (how i despise that phrase!) while they are suffering. they want the suffering to stop and let their life unfold in some peace. (sorry for the rant)
Thank you :) I think all different approaches have the best intention of getting to the root cause of what constitutes mental illness. However, some theories seem to better explain what lies behind mental illness and how to best overcome it.
@@metacognitivetherapycentra7478 i understand there is no malice intended in these (and so many other) approaches, and that they can provide illumination in certain ways. but having been subjected to them over the decades, i can't help but feel a little bitter. i would have been far better off listening to the words of philosophers, writers, and poets. from the time before the stoics, through voltaire's era, to mark twain's time, and beyond, one of the significant messages of these thinkers has been, very broadly speaking: life is fraught with difficulty; don't dwell on it. ❤️
@@hellie_el I completely understand. Feeling like you have wasted time while suffering inevitably makes one bitter. And I do like how you distilled the main message down to "life is fraught with difficulty; don't dwell on it" :)
It’s very helpful. Thanks
Good job 👍
Thank you:)
Hey there! Just watched your video - it's really amazing and so informative! There are a few minor suggestions that could extend its reach. I've sent you an email with all the details. Please review it at your earliest convenience!
Thank you for the valuable video. Is Metacognitive Therapy useful for all disorders, or should ACT Therapy be used for cases that do not respond to MCT?
Thank you :) According to research, MCT is helpful in those disorders that are caused and maintained by the CAS (worry, rumination, avoidance, etc). So long there is CAS activity, MCT is the most effective approach because it specializes in reducing the CAS.
It could be that people who do not suffer are simply better at repressing and escaping CAS.
These academic terms which MCT uses is not helping spread its message. S-REF, CAS. LOL
hahaha that's is true, at the same time I think if you go and see a MCT-therapist perhaps they wont use these fancy terms and keep it more simple and more use the client's languange and make it more simple, instead of using the term "CAS" they might fore example use "strategies". Knowing the exact term isn't the most important thing...
