What a gem this video is. It fits perfectly with the ADHD group coaching I’ve been getting. Focus on getting the important things done in 2 hours of peak time. Then do random stuff the rest of the day. Emotion management is an important addition. Thanks for sharing your research Bas.
Totally agree on the brain - heart analogy. The key to your suggested method of emotion driven work is of course first to work on your emotions. If one cannot create a passionate feeling about inconvenient but important tasks, one is bound to stay in a comfort cage.
Discovered you doing a search for home inventory systems in Norton (FUN! YEA!) while probably putting something off that I could be doing. Then I saw this. It is the best video I've ever seen on this topic. I have ADHD and everything you said resonated. In fact, the music through headphones has been a standby for years. The other suggestions are ones I'm going to try. Thank you so much!!!
Motivation is a difficult thing to manage and I'm glad that you connected it to emotions. That also means it's very personal what does and does not work. I recently noticed that I started scrolling on Reddit while waiting for compilation jobs, but that it's hard to switch back to "work" mode once the computer is done with compiling. My brain is still searching for dopamine in the next interesting topic... And I'm not sure how to handle this. I know I should probably replace that habbit with something "better", but replacing habbits is hard. I like your suggestion about music. For me chiptune music apparently works great to get me into the flow, while heavy rock music works great when I need to do chores (vacuuming, cleaning the litter box, etc).

Glad it was helpful, I struggle with this a lot so at least I had a good test subject for this topic 😄

Yup, if the passion is there then even a boring task becomes easier to do.
Love that buffet take, will try that today
Yeah, my favorite new move. Bored, see what sparks a little bit of energy. 😁
My focus is so bad, it took me 6 sessions in 2 days just to watch this video. Still worth it!
And then I needed 3 days to get a reply in.

That's amazing to hear, glad it helped! Hope the suggestions help, they do for me but I think this topic is very personal for everyone.

I got the same issue during compile and pipelines running. Going to try and keep a book near as it's less of a high then twitter, reddit or yt
Love the tips man! I will try to use some of your suggestions in my daily life.
Plenty of days it's just hard to keep going. Hope the tips help!
