Contra: The Alien Wars is the third entry in the Contra series. Like its predecessors, it is a predominantly side-scrolling shooter with a heavy emphasis on action. The protagonist can fire in eight directions when standing still. New abilities include climbing on walls, grabbing poles and navigating tanks. Parts of scenery can be destroyed. Originally released on the SNES, this version of the game was released on the Game Boy in 1994.
ThunderAxe31 ( tasvideos.org/Users/Profile/T... ) makes quick work of this game, jumping and shooting his way through aliens as fast as possible.

Hehe this is one of the games I played when I was 13-15 in an emulator. I've always thought that I was the only one who played these games. I am glad to see a TAS run of it.

How do you do the mid air jumps?
Also,
Uses a TAS. Still dies twice.
Do it again with the flamethrower!

1) Air jumps are performed by taking advantage of an overlook in the game code. You can do it only when you fall from walking.
2) In level 4 I didn't die, as the boss room is accessed before losing the life. On level 5, I died for killing the final boss faster.
3) The shotgun is stronger than the flamethrower thanks to a glitch I used.

@@thunderaxe31 I don't know if you know, but is there a password in the game that lets you start on level 1 with the flamethrower? I can't find many passwords for this game.

The rules allow passwords only for unlocking special modes: tasvideos.org/MovieRules.html#WeAllowPlayingUnlockableContentUsingInGamePasswords
There are no special modes in this game and this TAS is already playing with the hardest difficulty.

I just finished researching the password generation, and I discovered that it's impossible to start in level 1 with passwords, sorry. You'll have to use game shark codes for starting with flamethrower.
