The best way to make it is to use a springform pan, BUT you MUST lay parchment paper around the bottom of the pan, with about an inch hanging over the edges! Next time I make it I will cut down on the sugar in the batter and in the frosting, but haven’t figured out how much yet. I made it in a 2-liter Corningware square baking dish and that was perfect. I baked it at 350º for 50 minutes. I will make this again!

Made this delicious cake but added a teaspoon of cinnamon tossed the apples before adding them to the batter. Also added 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla to the frosting.

i’m making this right now and i subbed sugar for coconut palm sugar and it was a bit watery so i had to add additional flour. so far so good, just waiting to add the icing
French Apple Cake Ingredients: For the cake: 1 cup all purpose flour / maida 2/3 cup sugar 3 tsp baking powder a pinch of salt 2 eggs 1/3 cup vegetable oil 1/2 cup milk 1 large apple For Icing (Frosting) : 1 egg 1/2 cup sugar 1/4 tsp Lemon zest 1/4 cup melted butter Directions: 1. Preheat your oven to 170 degree celsius 2. Mix all the dry ingredients for the cake and add eggs, oil and milk to it and mix well until smooth batter is formed using a whisk. 3. Grease the baking tray/pan with oil/butter and pour the mixture into it and tap the pan 2 - 3 times to let off the air bubbles. 4. Peel and deseed the apple and slice it in to small pieces. 5. Place these apple slices on to the top of cake mixture and bake in the oven at 170 degree celsius for 30 minutes. 6. Meanwhile prepare the frosting. Into a bowl add all the icing ingredients and mix thoroughly using whisk. 7. Remove cake from the oven and check if it’s cooked by inserting a knife or skewer in the center of the cake. If not cooked properly return it to the oven and bake for some more time till it’s done. 8. Once the cake is done, pour the icing mixture on to it’s top covering the top portion and bake it again at 170 degree celsius for another 10 - 12 minutes (Please make sure you mix the icing thoroughly just before pouring on to the cake). 9. Let it cool down completely and then run a knife along the edges to seperate it from the pan and flip it over to a plate or cut it as such from the pan and enjoy eating!

I made this and it was perfect. Then I made it again with pineapple and sprinkled toasted coconut on top. I used a very fresh pineapple. I want to try it next time with berries.

If you use French flour, that music makes the flour rise. La Marseillaise is even better it comes out very moist.
