They should've just incorporated the ghost town into Fort Staunton in Liberty City Stories. At least then, we'd know why it no longer exists in 2001 since Toni Cipriani (under Donald Love's orders) blew up that entire neighborhood.
Actually, in the first mission she appears in, Catalina was shown to threaten other patrons with a knife and even greeted CJ rudely when she first met him. So Catalina was always the same unstable psychopath she would devolve to before she even met CJ, and I doubt CJ's attitude towards her had any effect to how she would behave in GTA III. She's far too unreasonable and switches her mood sporadically to be taken seriously. She claimed that she doesn't love CJ and was just a business partner and then claims that "just business" means she loves him. She never could make up her mind. So it's understandable that CJ wants nothing to do with her after their robbery sprees. She would have still became the woman she was in GTA III even if she didn't meet CJ.
Exactly, Carl was nothing to her, just another guy she uses along the way. It is actually a miracle that Claude lasted as long as he did with her before the bank robbery in LC. No doubt it would have been a turbulent relationship but if 1997 is the true then 5 years is impressive. Maybe it's because he does what he's told and doesn't talk back. When she had enough of him, she actually had the new boyfriend in the two seater getaway car ready to go. She had already planned to ice Claude and the other Columbian guy on the job itself.
CJ's attitude did affect Catalina's life. Catalina wanted to make Carl feel jealous and fight for her. She really loved CJ but CJ ignored her. Which made her even more crazier than before.

In the case of a bank robber who was caught at the scene red handed, there is no way that trial would drag on for years, especially with it getting heavy media coverage as the Liberty Tree newspaper shows us. I think this is just a case of reading too much into things, it's easily plausible that the robbery happened within a year of the game. As to why they decided to make the bank and surrounding area inaccessible to players instead of just including it in the city, I don't know... Maybe they designed and mapped out the city before they wrote the opening sequence, and when they realized they hadn't designed a bank building on the map (which is weird, Liberty City is supposed to represent NYC, there should be banks everywhere) they created the ghost town and then blocked it off. I'm also positive that the LT article on Catalina referencing previous robberies and a possible accomplice is talking about Claude, since I don't believe the makers of the game were incorporating your years-before-trial theory. Good video, and great work as usual, but I really think the bank being separate from the city is a technical issue instead of a part of the storyline. One last thing... I have always found it strange that people assume Claude is a mute, since it is never said or even implied that he CAN'T talk. A lot of people assume he can't simply because he doesn't.
Did you know that the protagonist of gta Chinatown wars huang Lee is in the same universe as Niko (the HD universe) you can find him and his uncle Kenny in the liberty city criminal records in gta 4 (only their names and the crimes they did before and stuff like that)
It's impossible to believe how claude fell in love with Catalina despite her crazy behavior, in fact he literally saw her smash cj's car before the second race started in the countryside so let's say after they moved to liberty city they meet Miguel and introduces them to the Columbian cartel who probably have more power, so Catalina gets power hungry and betrays claude thanks to Miguel's involvement with the Columbians
There is a promotional Liberty Tree article dated October 2001 states that Catalina recently moved to LC with Claude after robbing banks in the south for the past three years.
My head canon for these two characters of gta 3 that occurred between after San Andreas and gta 3 is that Catalina and Claude robbed banks and dealt drug deals in the certain places that they hit. Even the regions of new Austin, brimstone, Ambarino, new Hanover, lemoyne, Nuevo Paraiso, west Elizabeth and lannahechee. Heck even gone south of the country like Colombia, Mexico, or colonel cortez’s country of something. Maybe Tropico. For the cocaine and creating the new drug: Spank. and meeting Miguel who operated the cartel in 3d liberty city. He’s only the leader of a cartel branch. Not not technically the leader of the cartel itself. The patron is someone who isn’t Pablo Escobar. Because he would be long dead already in 1998. Also apparently there was a falling out for Catalina and Claude. And Catalina wanted Claude dead for no longer playing the man of the couple but instead a dog. Claude didn’t care for her but only acted loyal for survival. And Catalina turns eyes for Miguel and want to be something bigger instead of someone who stays the lane. And so went to upstate liberty to rob the bank there only for Catalina to turn on Claude and only played lover for Miguel. Little Miguel knows that Catalina is a snake and would take over the liberty city cartel eventually.
Ghost Town probably exists in the game's universe. The map we see isn't how it is, if that makes sense. So technically, every map isn't in a island in the ocean.
We just don't see every part. For example, there are some streets in the highway of GTA 4 that aren't in the game but exists regardless. Some locations are mentioned in Vice City but aren't accessible, yet still exist in the game's universe.
The ghost town area seems to be based on a H-shaped road layout (two roads connected by a third road without any further connections), which exists in barely 4 places in 1998-2001 Liberty City, none of which are long enough to fit it, but after some exploring it seems that the southern "main drag" in Portland could fit if the road layout in 1997 was a bit different (which is possible, as when they started building the Callahan Bridge they could change the street layout to utilize it as a sort of main road (added streets to Chinatown on the eastern side and one on the western side, changed the straight intersection with the Portland Boulevard to a turn (which would also explain why these two streets are so close yet separate) and moved a street that connects to it a bit to the north), even the style of the buildings seems similar, there'd be enough space to fit the back side of the bank and these two are 4 lane roads, there's even the Bank of Liberty almost in the same place as Liberty Bank Edit: or not, the ghost town street seems to be located between two 4-lane roads, while the main drag is connected to only one 4-lane road, so they would've had to make the second 4-lane road into a two lane road

how does it make sense the intro begins beforehand? GTA3 starts with Claude on a prison bus, after he's been convicted of the bank robbery. It's very unlikely that a high-profile bank robbery trial would take that many years to be resolved. Maybe a year or so, at most maybe two if we assume that Catalina's gunshot wound left Claude in a coma or something in the hospital under police guard until he recovered enough to stand trial

Yes, GTA 3 is set in 2001, but that doesn't necessarily mean opening cutscene is as well 😉 And the answer to your question about Claude, Catalina and Miguel look the same both in opening and afterwards is the same answer as to why Claude wears the same outfit in GTA San Andreas like in GTA 3 -> Rockstar North's laziness 🙂
Interesting theory, and it kinda makes some sense, but then why there isn't even a single reference to those years passed by any character, also literally El Burro's first line to Claude is "You're new in Liberty" ? The theory that in the Liberty Tree article about Catalina her accomplice mentioned isn't meant to be Claude seems very forced and arbitrary, Rockstar made those sites and articles back then to promote the game and it's plot, and to establish a prequel to what's about to go down in the game, it's clearly meant to be a reference to Claude.
There is no reference to the exact year of this event because DMA Design (today's Rockstar North) wasn't thinking this through or planning. All they've done is give a statement in "Your Questions Answered" suggesting that "Ghost Town" is meant to be a part of Liberty City. And since GTA Liberty City Stories came out, it's impossible to evaluate the exact time without meeting several conditions. As you could see in the video, we were slowly going to determine this date by taking each point into account. 1)Before GTA San Andreas, 2)Before GTA LCS or after GTA LCS, 3)Liberty Tree article suggesting that Colombian Cartel was in Liberty City since 1997, all of this had to be counted in order to find a suitable year and that's what we did. 🙂 Now in terms of El Burro's line "You're new in Liberty, but now you're getting a reputation on the streets", it is easy to connect this with Claude being 4 years in jail. Since Claude wasn't able to continue his "criminal adventures" because of being in jail, the criminal underworld slowly "forgot" about him until his court case was getting any updates. Finally, as for Claude not being Catalina's accomplice during her robberies since 1998, he couldn't be with her since he was in jail, it's that simple. So it had to be her new boyfriend whose identity we don't know. But as we said earlier, we are presenting a theory, not a fact. Cheers! 🙂
@@gaminginvestigators I understand that, but I'm just going by occam's razor here, you see GTA 3 as the first game in the series with an actual story and that is still very simplistic, both the characters and the story is much much more stereotipical, simple and with far less nuances than in later titles, so I doubt that R* was really thinking about such a sophisticated prestory for the game. If they would've I'm sure they would imply it the game one way or another. About the Bank of LC not being directly found in the game, I always thought about that as LC is actually meant to be much bigger than what is depicted in the game, (it's pretty hard to explain as english is not my first language) kind of like there are much more boroughs and parts of the city that they simply did not build since it's not important for the gameplay so we can't see them or travel there but it's implied that they exsist, and probably the bank they robbed is there too in 2001, it's just not accesible. But that said, I do like your theory and it does make sense in some ways, because I too always felt strange and unrealistic that Claude and Catalina would be together for 9 years robbing banks without any mishaps and only after so long time would Catalina's true backstabbing qualities reveal. 9 years is a very long time, if Catalina didn't backstab Claude for so much time, why would she do that now.
My personal theory is that Catalina betrayed Claude probably around 1995 or earlier. So picture this, her and Claude moved to Liberty City in 1992 right? In the middle of their of robbing spree they met Miguel sometime around 1993 - 1994 and through him, they were able to get more money than ever before and once Catalina realizes this, she no longer needed Claude as her partner in crime and thus; shooting him in the beginning of the game which is probably in 1995. Given how Catalina betrays her partners in GTA SA, I wouldn't be surprised if Claude had it coming too. As for the ghost town, given how much of the towns exteriors doesn't match any of the cities Liberty City, it probably takes place somewhere around a fictionalized version of New Jersey or as mentioned in the video, somewhere around Liberty State.
That makes no sense at all,GTA 3 takes place in 2001(9 years after san andreas),The Main story begins soon after Claude gets betrayed by Catalina and he soon after is transported to prison with 8 ball(who got his hands burned in GTA Advance)

Sure, they may have looked the same throughout GTA 3, but the game was released in 2001 and we have no prior knowledge of Catalina other than being the main antagonist not until 3 years later when GTA SA was released. With GTA SA expanding more on Catalina's character as a whole, we could see how she communicates with her partners especially with CJ and during the mission "Farewell, my love" we can see that she has moved on with CJ very quickly (don't know about the duration but the point is she moved on very fast). Seeing how she only dates her partners through business and not building an actual relationship, it makes sense why she betrayed Claude in the beginning of the game and chose to work with Miguel instead. Also the buildings in ghost town don't match up with the rest of the buildings in Liberty City so it could've probably taken place somewhere in Liberty State years before or months before the scene where Claude is transported to Portland jail. Relying only on GTA 3 and advanced makes your point completely weak because ignoring GTA SA and GTA LCS story makes the entire plot of GTA 3 hard to understand.

Please share some evidence that you have for those years if you can 🙂 In terms of Ghost Town being located somewhere around Liberty State, again, we mentioned that at the beginning because that's what players are mainly thinking. However, if you pay more attention to one of Rockstar's statements, this one particularly "We think that what people refer to as 'ghost town' is just the small area of A CITY we built for the bank heist scene at the very start of the game." It clearly shows that it was meant to be a part of the city, not being on the outskirts of Liberty, that is Upstate. And that's what we were trying to prove among other things 😉

I have to disagree on Catalina going back to robbing after she betrays Claude. That was the point behind her betrayal; she was tired of the small time jobs. Trial by jury doesn't always take years to go to trial. It can sometimes be within a few months, which I think within that time frame, she was getting established with the cartel.
You have a good point, Shaun 🙂 However, do we really know if she was doing small robberies in Texas and New Mexico? Furthermore, the bank heist in "Ghost Town" is quite big already in our opinion so going by your logic, all heists that she was doing beforehand were probably small ones as you mentioned.

I figure since she and Claude started in San Andreas (California equivalent), they would've made their way through Texas and New Mexico, on their way to Liberty City (New York equivalent). Now 'Ghost Town' is in Liberty City, cause we see Liberty City Bank in the opening scene. Now back to the other heist, this heist in Liberty was the last one; so yes, the others and the job they just pulled off, were small time according to her. We see after the heist she has gone into major things, such as the drug trade and other organized crime, and has done away with armed robberies. It wouldn't make sense for her to leave Liberty, after she said that was her destination in San Andreas, to travel all the way back to Texas and New Mexico for armed robberies. So her and Claude robbed all the way to Liberty, Liberty was the last heist, and she then took up organized crime within the Colombian Cartel.
What gets me is how he just stands there whilst she's openly declaring her betrayal. I will never understand this trope. It just makes characters look dumb.
@Gaming Investigators (Hubson Games) when Cesar calls CJ saying the drug is leaving Los Santos, the delivery men inside the Patriot are members of the Grove Street Families. Shouldn't the drug dealers be members of the Ballas? Since Grove Street has become Ballas territory.
@Frank Castle No because Smoke has Grove members that are loyal to him so it makes sense that he would use his loyalists to deal with the drugs rather than his Balla partners, the game doesnt explain it well but basically it wasnt just Smoke and Ryder that became traitors, some grove members sided with Smoke after CJs exile and Sweets imprisonment to either join his operation completely or purely just survival
Ok my guess lore wise it is old Liberty City so that leaves us wondering what the timeframe beginning when Claude is being escorted this answer is quite simple he was one in coma or two recovering in the hospital for a long while so when he woke up he was judged and was to be sent to prison of course in that timeframe he was in the hospital liberty city changed drastically
See this is why rockstar are going down in my opinion. There is a whole narrative development to discover in the years leading up to gta 3 and i think catalina would be a great protagonist to play as. I've been saying this to friends for years and I'd much rather have new stories to dig into than defective editions of games i already loved and revered.
What if all this is wrong because we are focusing on the wrong characters. In the opening of GTA3 a character Claud escorted out of prison. What about that guy in relation to CJ or even Niko and Lamar?
What about the Upstate Tunnel? Would it have any connection to Claude's final departure from Liberty City? I mention this because in the game we see how tunnels can be under construction but later be fixed. Do think it's possible Claude would have later left this way ?
Unfortunately, the Upstate Tunnel is not related to Ghost Town at all 🙁 According to the developers, the tunnel was meant to be closed giving the player a feeling there is something behind waiting for them, we would say it could be some kind of hint of GTA Vice City when Rockstar was considering it as a DLC for GTA 3. 🙂
@@gaminginvestigators I thought the Upstate Tunnel was more of a reference to Carcer City, because Vice City is located down south, even if Ray Machowski takes a plane to Miami because of how far it would be to travel. Carcer City is even located north to what it's depicted in close proximity to Liberty City in both the 3D and HD Universes.
All this time and energy investigating and analysing, its simple GTA san andreas was in production, they were short on ideas so they dropped in Claude and Catalina for nostalgic effect without regard to the timeline. Same with the vice city characters.

Why do you think he didn't want to see her anymore? Look at the name of the missions with them both in san andreas (made in heaven, gone courting), I think they had something special and I think he liked her but never admitted it! I think catalina is very misunderstood, she is just like trevor but gets more hate for being a woman! And remember the phone calls she makes, she kills others and doesn't care, see the difference, and with CJ it's different! Nobody change my mind! 💋☺️

i disagree with you in the heist date. in the newspaper, one of the titles is "10 years of love" and after that a tough guy and his girlfriend are mentioned. these two are clearly claude and catalina and if the heist was in 1997, the title would be "5 years of love"

Ghost Town can't be another part of the map because if that would be the case there should be the Liberty City Bank somewhere on the map but it's not so most probably you could get to the Ghost Town through the blocked tunnel. Also, Claude is transported in the same car as 8 Ball so most probably they were arrested at the same time and as we can see in GTA Advance 8 Ball was free in the year 2000

Also, if Maria Latore had never met Salvatore her life is going much better, she is a young, adorable, cute, sober and clean Libertonian girl (she was born and raised in Liberty City), she probably lives with Asuka Kasen, her best friend and high-ranking member of Yakuza, she’s far away from Italian Mafia business, she’s on legitimate job with help of Asuka, she keeps in touch with her parents and her sister and everything is great. Rockstar has done a really bad job of moving the characters into the GTA SA environment. Catolina, Claude, Kent Paul, Salvatore Leon. All of them do not resemble their looks in the previous GTAs. I know that the events of San Andreas in 1992 were supposed to appear younger, but Catolina is not that brown at all in GTA III and Claude has a wide chin, not a thin one. They completely failed to make me feel that they were the same characters and I was treating them like completely other people with the same name only 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Same with Maria. They rewritten her story and completely destroyed her. She was not a waitress, but a dancer in Luigi’s Club. She was very young, sweet and adorable, while in SA she looked older. I think I know where the ghost town is located. There’s a tunnel in shoreside vale that’s blocked off. If you can get past it that’s where you will find the ghost town. That’s my guess

They should've just incorporated the ghost town into Fort Staunton in Liberty City Stories. At least then, we'd know why it no longer exists in 2001 since Toni Cipriani (under Donald Love's orders) blew up that entire neighborhood.
Actually, in the first mission she appears in, Catalina was shown to threaten other patrons with a knife and even greeted CJ rudely when she first met him. So Catalina was always the same unstable psychopath she would devolve to before she even met CJ, and I doubt CJ's attitude towards her had any effect to how she would behave in GTA III. She's far too unreasonable and switches her mood sporadically to be taken seriously. She claimed that she doesn't love CJ and was just a business partner and then claims that "just business" means she loves him. She never could make up her mind. So it's understandable that CJ wants nothing to do with her after their robbery sprees. She would have still became the woman she was in GTA III even if she didn't meet CJ.

It is actually a miracle that Claude lasted as long as he did with her before the bank robbery in LC. No doubt it would have been a turbulent relationship but if 1997 is the true then 5 years is impressive. Maybe it's because he does what he's told and doesn't talk back.
When she had enough of him, she actually had the new boyfriend in the two seater getaway car ready to go. She had already planned to ice Claude and the other Columbian guy on the job itself.

In the case of a bank robber who was caught at the scene red handed, there is no way that trial would drag on for years, especially with it getting heavy media coverage as the Liberty Tree newspaper shows us. I think this is just a case of reading too much into things, it's easily plausible that the robbery happened within a year of the game. As to why they decided to make the bank and surrounding area inaccessible to players instead of just including it in the city, I don't know... Maybe they designed and mapped out the city before they wrote the opening sequence, and when they realized they hadn't designed a bank building on the map (which is weird, Liberty City is supposed to represent NYC, there should be banks everywhere) they created the ghost town and then blocked it off. I'm also positive that the LT article on Catalina referencing previous robberies and a possible accomplice is talking about Claude, since I don't believe the makers of the game were incorporating your years-before-trial theory. Good video, and great work as usual, but I really think the bank being separate from the city is a technical issue instead of a part of the storyline.
One last thing... I have always found it strange that people assume Claude is a mute, since it is never said or even implied that he CAN'T talk. A lot of people assume he can't simply because he doesn't.
Did you know that the protagonist of gta Chinatown wars huang Lee is in the same universe as Niko (the HD universe) you can find him and his uncle Kenny in the liberty city criminal records in gta 4 (only their names and the crimes they did before and stuff like that)

There is a promotional Liberty Tree article dated October 2001 states that Catalina recently moved to LC with Claude after robbing banks in the south for the past three years.
My head canon for these two characters of gta 3 that occurred between after San Andreas and gta 3 is that Catalina and Claude robbed banks and dealt drug deals in the certain places that they hit. Even the regions of new Austin, brimstone, Ambarino, new Hanover, lemoyne, Nuevo Paraiso, west Elizabeth and lannahechee. Heck even gone south of the country like Colombia, Mexico, or colonel cortez’s country of something. Maybe Tropico. For the cocaine and creating the new drug: Spank. and meeting Miguel who operated the cartel in 3d liberty city. He’s only the leader of a cartel branch. Not not technically the leader of the cartel itself. The patron is someone who isn’t Pablo Escobar. Because he would be long dead already in 1998. Also apparently there was a falling out for Catalina and Claude. And Catalina wanted Claude dead for no longer playing the man of the couple but instead a dog. Claude didn’t care for her but only acted loyal for survival. And Catalina turns eyes for Miguel and want to be something bigger instead of someone who stays the lane. And so went to upstate liberty to rob the bank there only for Catalina to turn on Claude and only played lover for Miguel. Little Miguel knows that Catalina is a snake and would take over the liberty city cartel eventually.
Ghost Town probably exists in the game's universe. The map we see isn't how it is, if that makes sense. So technically, every map isn't in a island in the ocean.
We just don't see every part. For example, there are some streets in the highway of GTA 4 that aren't in the game but exists regardless. Some locations are mentioned in Vice City but aren't accessible, yet still exist in the game's universe.

The ghost town area seems to be based on a H-shaped road layout (two roads connected by a third road without any further connections), which exists in barely 4 places in 1998-2001 Liberty City, none of which are long enough to fit it, but after some exploring it seems that the southern "main drag" in Portland could fit if the road layout in 1997 was a bit different (which is possible, as when they started building the Callahan Bridge they could change the street layout to utilize it as a sort of main road (added streets to Chinatown on the eastern side and one on the western side, changed the straight intersection with the Portland Boulevard to a turn (which would also explain why these two streets are so close yet separate) and moved a street that connects to it a bit to the north), even the style of the buildings seems similar, there'd be enough space to fit the back side of the bank and these two are 4 lane roads, there's even the Bank of Liberty almost in the same place as Liberty Bank
Edit: or not, the ghost town street seems to be located between two 4-lane roads, while the main drag is connected to only one 4-lane road, so they would've had to make the second 4-lane road into a two lane road

how does it make sense the intro begins beforehand? GTA3 starts with Claude on a prison bus, after he's been convicted of the bank robbery. It's very unlikely that a high-profile bank robbery trial would take that many years to be resolved. Maybe a year or so, at most maybe two if we assume that Catalina's gunshot wound left Claude in a coma or something in the hospital under police guard until he recovered enough to stand trial

Yes, GTA 3 is set in 2001, but that doesn't necessarily mean opening cutscene is as well 😉 And the answer to your question about Claude, Catalina and Miguel look the same both in opening and afterwards is the same answer as to why Claude wears the same outfit in GTA San Andreas like in GTA 3 -> Rockstar North's laziness 🙂

Interesting theory, and it kinda makes some sense, but then why there isn't even a single reference to those years passed by any character, also literally El Burro's first line to Claude is "You're new in Liberty" ? The theory that in the Liberty Tree article about Catalina her accomplice mentioned isn't meant to be Claude seems very forced and arbitrary, Rockstar made those sites and articles back then to promote the game and it's plot, and to establish a prequel to what's about to go down in the game, it's clearly meant to be a reference to Claude.
There is no reference to the exact year of this event because DMA Design (today's Rockstar North) wasn't thinking this through or planning. All they've done is give a statement in "Your Questions Answered" suggesting that "Ghost Town" is meant to be a part of Liberty City. And since GTA Liberty City Stories came out, it's impossible to evaluate the exact time without meeting several conditions. As you could see in the video, we were slowly going to determine this date by taking each point into account. 1)Before GTA San Andreas, 2)Before GTA LCS or after GTA LCS, 3)Liberty Tree article suggesting that Colombian Cartel was in Liberty City since 1997, all of this had to be counted in order to find a suitable year and that's what we did. 🙂
Now in terms of El Burro's line "You're new in Liberty, but now you're getting a reputation on the streets", it is easy to connect this with Claude being 4 years in jail. Since Claude wasn't able to continue his "criminal adventures" because of being in jail, the criminal underworld slowly "forgot" about him until his court case was getting any updates.
Finally, as for Claude not being Catalina's accomplice during her robberies since 1998, he couldn't be with her since he was in jail, it's that simple. So it had to be her new boyfriend whose identity we don't know. But as we said earlier, we are presenting a theory, not a fact. Cheers! 🙂
@@gaminginvestigators I understand that, but I'm just going by occam's razor here, you see GTA 3 as the first game in the series with an actual story and that is still very simplistic, both the characters and the story is much much more stereotipical, simple and with far less nuances than in later titles, so I doubt that R* was really thinking about such a sophisticated prestory for the game. If they would've I'm sure they would imply it the game one way or another.
About the Bank of LC not being directly found in the game, I always thought about that as LC is actually meant to be much bigger than what is depicted in the game, (it's pretty hard to explain as english is not my first language) kind of like there are much more boroughs and parts of the city that they simply did not build since it's not important for the gameplay so we can't see them or travel there but it's implied that they exsist, and probably the bank they robbed is there too in 2001, it's just not accesible.
But that said, I do like your theory and it does make sense in some ways, because I too always felt strange and unrealistic that Claude and Catalina would be together for 9 years robbing banks without any mishaps and only after so long time would Catalina's true backstabbing qualities reveal. 9 years is a very long time, if Catalina didn't backstab Claude for so much time, why would she do that now.
My personal theory is that Catalina betrayed Claude probably around 1995 or earlier. So picture this, her and Claude moved to Liberty City in 1992 right? In the middle of their of robbing spree they met Miguel sometime around 1993 - 1994 and through him, they were able to get more money than ever before and once Catalina realizes this, she no longer needed Claude as her partner in crime and thus; shooting him in the beginning of the game which is probably in 1995. Given how Catalina betrays her partners in GTA SA, I wouldn't be surprised if Claude had it coming too. As for the ghost town, given how much of the towns exteriors doesn't match any of the cities Liberty City, it probably takes place somewhere around a fictionalized version of New Jersey or as mentioned in the video, somewhere around Liberty State.

Sure, they may have looked the same throughout GTA 3, but the game was released in 2001 and we have no prior knowledge of Catalina other than being the main antagonist not until 3 years later when GTA SA was released. With GTA SA expanding more on Catalina's character as a whole, we could see how she communicates with her partners especially with CJ and during the mission "Farewell, my love" we can see that she has moved on with CJ very quickly (don't know about the duration but the point is she moved on very fast). Seeing how she only dates her partners through business and not building an actual relationship, it makes sense why she betrayed Claude in the beginning of the game and chose to work with Miguel instead. Also the buildings in ghost town don't match up with the rest of the buildings in Liberty City so it could've probably taken place somewhere in Liberty State years before or months before the scene where Claude is transported to Portland jail. Relying only on GTA 3 and advanced makes your point completely weak because ignoring GTA SA and GTA LCS story makes the entire plot of GTA 3 hard to understand.

However, if you pay more attention to one of Rockstar's statements, this one particularly "We think that what people refer to as 'ghost town' is just the small area of A CITY we built for the bank heist scene at the very start of the game." It clearly shows that it was meant to be a part of the city, not being on the outskirts of Liberty, that is Upstate. And that's what we were trying to prove among other things 😉

I have to disagree on Catalina going back to robbing after she betrays Claude. That was the point behind her betrayal; she was tired of the small time jobs. Trial by jury doesn't always take years to go to trial. It can sometimes be within a few months, which I think within that time frame, she was getting established with the cartel.

Furthermore, the bank heist in "Ghost Town" is quite big already in our opinion so going by your logic, all heists that she was doing beforehand were probably small ones as you mentioned.
@@gaminginvestigators Yes, we do, as she was a wanted woman for those robberies. I figure since she and Claude started in San Andreas (California equivalent), they would've made their way through Texas and New Mexico, on their way to Liberty City (New York equivalent).
Now 'Ghost Town' is in Liberty City, cause we see Liberty City Bank in the opening scene. Now back to the other heist, this heist in Liberty was the last one; so yes, the others and the job they just pulled off, were small time according to her. We see after the heist she has gone into major things, such as the drug trade and other organized crime, and has done away with armed robberies.
It wouldn't make sense for her to leave Liberty, after she said that was her destination in San Andreas, to travel all the way back to Texas and New Mexico for armed robberies. So her and Claude robbed all the way to Liberty, Liberty was the last heist, and she then took up organized crime within the Colombian Cartel.
What gets me is how he just stands there whilst she's openly declaring her betrayal. I will never understand this trope. It just makes characters look dumb.

@Frank Castle No because Smoke has Grove members that are loyal to him so it makes sense that he would use his loyalists to deal with the drugs rather than his Balla partners, the game doesnt explain it well but basically it wasnt just Smoke and Ryder that became traitors, some grove members sided with Smoke after CJs exile and Sweets imprisonment to either join his operation completely or purely just survival

See this is why rockstar are going down in my opinion. There is a whole narrative development to discover in the years leading up to gta 3 and i think catalina would be a great protagonist to play as. What if all this is wrong because we are focusing on the wrong characters. In the opening of GTA3 a character Claud escorted out of prison. What about that guy in relation to CJ or even Niko and Lamar?

What about the Upstate Tunnel? Would it have any connection to Claude's final departure from Liberty City? I mention this because in the game we see how tunnels can be under construction but later be fixed. Do think it's possible Claude would have later left this way ?
Unfortunately, the Upstate Tunnel is not related to Ghost Town at all 🙁 According to the developers, the tunnel was meant to be closed giving the player a feeling there is something behind waiting for them, we would say it could be some kind of hint of GTA Vice City when Rockstar was considering it as a DLC for GTA 3. 🙂
@@gaminginvestigators I thought the Upstate Tunnel was more of a reference to Carcer City, because Vice City is located down south, even if Ray Machowski takes a plane to Miami because of how far it would be to travel. Carcer City is even located north to what it's depicted in close proximity to Liberty City in both the 3D and HD Universes.
All this time and energy investigating and analysing, its simple GTA san andreas was in production, they were short on ideas so they dropped in Claude and Catalina for nostalgic effect without regard to the timeline.
Same with the vice city characters.

i disagree with you in the heist date. in the newspaper, one of the titles is "10 years of love" and after that a tough guy and his girlfriend are mentioned. these two are clearly claude and catalina and if the heist was in 1997, the title would be "5 years of love"

Ghost Town can't be another part of the map because if that would be the case there should be the Liberty City Bank somewhere on the map but it's not so most probably you could get to the Ghost Town through the blocked tunnel. Also, Claude is transported in the same car as 8 Ball so most probably they were arrested at the same time and as we can see in GTA Advance 8 Ball was free in the year 2000
It is also possible that 8 Ball's trial lasted shorter than claude, resulting in them being transported to the pen at the same time.

@@radu1271 as stated in the video, trials can take a long time. Also wouldn't claude need time to recover from two gunshot wounds to the upper torso? However you do have a point on Miguel looking younger on LCS but maybe that could be due to hardware.

Rockstar has done a really bad job of moving the characters into the GTA SA environment. Catolina, Claude, Kent Paul, Salvatore Leon. All of them do not resemble their looks in the previous GTAs. I know that the events of San Andreas in 1992 were supposed to appear younger, but Catolina is not that brown at all in GTA III and Claude has a wide chin, not a thin one. They completely failed to make me feel that they were the same characters and I was treating them like completely other people with the same name only 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Same with Maria. They rewritten her story and completely destroyed her. She was not a waitress, but a dancer in Luigi’s Club. She was very young, sweet and adorable, while in SA she looked older. In LCS… no comments, she was ugly.

I think I know where the ghost town is located. There’s a tunnel in shoreside vale that’s blocked off. If you can get past it that’s where you will find the ghost town. That’s my guess
