Great video. I just recently picked up a Sony Trinitron Wega KV-36FS16, and I have a problem where blacks are crushed due to what appears to be an internal feature that probably works well on movies but not on video games. Do you know how to turn off the “auto white balance” and “dynamic picture processor”? I’m not sure if these are the settings that are causing the problem for sure, but I think they might be.
I looked threw the service menu and can not find where to turn off those settings. I had that problem with my Panasonic. Just way to dark with game play. I had to go into the service menu and raise the low contrast, mid contrast, high contrast settings. Then do the same for the brightness settings as well. This made the over look way better. Devil may cry games where so dark I could not see the game along with Metal Gear solid game. Don't miss with the colors settings just the low, mids mids and high of brightness and contrast. This should help you. Let me know what you find and what TV model you have. Edit: I see your model number, sorry. Ya, it should be the same as mine. So what I told you should work.

Interesting. I've recently been trying to play some shmup games that were only released in Europe, and a few of them are all wibbly wobbly when I start them up. I can make out the words "change video mode" but is it possible to change the video mode from NTSC to PAL? Sony WEGA Trinitron btw
@@bartdog59 If you're going to give a reply like that, then also explain why the original comment was incorrect and what is the truth then. Otherwise your comment is useless and pointless!
@Moshugaani the truth is that it can't? There isn't more explaining than that.... a PAL TV cannot take NTSC, it just ends up outputting in black and white. So suck my dick
Thanks for the video! Just picked up a Sony KV-27FS100 but I noticed the Initial Setup screen keeps popping up even after I do the Auto Program. Sometimes it'll go away for a while then will return. Any idea how to fix this? Thank you!

Dude I own both a Sony triniton HD with HDMI input and Hpillips with the same inputs, but they both have a problem of over scalling mstly at the sides. So at least with the Sony one, can you tell me wich values I should move to recover all that overscalled image to the sizes?
@@JoeRetroWorld thanks man, I have some experience with this, I learned by my own. When I bought this, HD sony Tv, the seller doesn't used the HDMI input cause the image was disorted as hell, it was like curve directly to hell at the right side. Well I learned how to enter to the service mode and I fix it. I already used the HSIZ, but for some reason both sizes are always cutted. is like just in HDMI the image is oversized to the sides , and trying to use HSIZ, is like crushing the image but the limits at both sizes are still the same. Maybe I need to found some "zoom out" option first and then HSIZ.
Hi Joe, thanks for the excellent guide on using the service menu. I tried this on my KV-27FS100, and sure enough, service mode comes right up! One question for you though: how do I switch the TV to component input? My one comes with RF, three AV inputs (inputs 1, 2, 3), S-Video (also on input 1), and Component (input 4). I only appear to be able to switch between inputs 1, 3, and RF using the "TV/VIDEO" button on the remote. Any guidance would be much appreciated!

The overscan and horizontal position can be adjusted in the service menu. The green color could be a bad capacitor or just that the colors need adjustment in the service menu also. I am just using my Cell phone Galaxy A20 set to 1080p with HDR on. Sometimes leaving it unplugged for some time resets the settings. There is a link to the service menu manual you can use to see if it they talk about factory reset. I have not read it.
@@JoeRetroWorld Hello and thanks for the reply. I actually tried to set the phone with these settings and it would seem that the photos are very good and now I will try with the videos. Thanks for the tip, I have a Samsung S7 Edge. As for the sony trinitron I think I made a mess by randomly touching the values on the Service menu and I just wanted to understand if there was the possibility of being able to restore them to factory values. I found an INITIAL function where practically the value should return to the initial one but now the image is all folded to one side and I honestly can't figure out how to solve it. Thank you have a nice day
That’s some critical information. Thanks! I just picked up a Trinitron, there is some jump refresh issues, I wonder if it’s due to capacitors or if a simple calibration in service mode might help out... 🤷🏼♂️

I checked tv with my moded ps2, av works fine, but I just recently checked, that it NTSC version of ps2 I have,so, by some reason PAL ps2 just works with black-white color , or maybe I should change something in settings Sega worked fine, even its pirate PAL version. RGB still works with yellow filter, maybe bad cable, but I played with that cable months ago, when my other trinitron worked well. Seller told me that its brand new, maybe I can somehow check tv information of time how long it had been working in total?

Hello, I have the television model KV-29FX30E. I cannot save changes in the geometry service mode configuration. Do you know which button to use to save parameters with the remote?
Didn’t work for me unfortunately. I have an older model (KV-1380R) with the original remote. I read over the service manual but didn’t find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
That's a old TV. That model most likely has potentiometer on the inside of the TV. You will have to take the back off and adjust horizontal and vertical adjustments manually with a small flathead screwdriver. I would look up videos explaining how to and what they look like. You don't want to hurt yourself or break the TV. That is a cool TV with the big stereo speakers on the side.
@@JoeRetroWorld Thanks for the info! Im a little nervous opening up the TV for both of those reasons but I will definitely do some research and see if its something I think I can do. And yeah I love the look of this TV and the sound from the side speakers is awesome!
In my Sony wega crt I have sound problem only while seeing some perticular channels but while I connect to dvd player speakers are very good and I doubt in antena and check my tv with my neighbour's antena even there sound in my tv is same Whats this problem will you please explain me
The sound signal mit be a different signal feed that your TV can not decode. My blueray player is not able to decode the new DTS signal. It can read Dolby Digital surround 5.1 just fine but not DTS. This may be what is happening to you. Go check the information menu and see what the sound source says when you push the display or info button on your remote. Let me know.
As long as it's works good. That will be a great TV for old Nintendo, super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and many more systems up to the ps3 with component cables.

If you have a GE universal remote like I do, just use the "Info" button in lieu of the "Display" button.

You should be able to just use the remote control and push info or display to remove it.

A PAL TV can handle NTSC, but not the other way around.
This is grossly incorrect
