Such a touching documentary. My late paternal uncle was one of the British POW's who worked on the 'line', as he called it. He developed a stammer that he would take to the grave along with his memories of friends lost during captivity. He told me a little of his life of hell whilst imprisoned all because I asked about the scars on his legs. They were from beatings and eventually ulcers. Obviously, he was never given medical treatment - no one was. He spoke so tenderly of a fellow POW who died about a month before Japan surrendered. He and his brother-in-arms kept one another going throughout their hellish time there. They had apparently made a pack, and promises were made. Upon my uncles' return to the UK, he visited a lawyer and had his name changed by Deed Poll to that of his old friend, a friend that my uncle believed saved his life, though sadly not his own. This documentary, though short, has been tough to view but essential to help me understand mans' inhumanity to man. Thank you so much for this posting.
Chela McGuire interesting story. Near the end of the war pows were taken by ship to japan , crammed together in the dark cargo hold with no toilet and barely any food or water. There toilet was the floor. One ship took 7 weeks all that time constantly hungry and thirsty .
This is the beauty and value of UA-cam. That these stories will live on for everyone to see. These men will be dead and gone at some point, but they still have voice to be forever heard
2021 here because of a new movie KIEFER SUTHERLAND "TO END ALL WARS. Rip to all the man who lost there lives over something that had nothing to do with them, brave heros I will forever forget the name Ernest Gordon along with many others.
Mr Takashi, is a good liar. I see through him. His job precludes compassion. He is consumed with guilt. That doesn’t mean he is innocent. No way. However, not my job to forgive.
feeling traumatic your whole life, its something you learn to control andlive with. but living with guilt, now thats a whollle another thing . cause you realize the damage youve done, and you sick to your stomach at what you done, and you cant undo that. u try your hard to live a good by others but somewhere inside you still feel this lump of guilt. i dont speak for this japanese man, but i know what guilt feels like, because my guilt is to the roofs. i can just do a small harm to others, or even if it isnt my fault, yet i feel the guilt over 9000. so i know how much it sucks to live with guilt every passing day
When are you referring to? Whether you're talkin ww2 era or any other, then i'm pretty sure the Japs got the dutch beat in terms of deaths brutality caused in comparison to all of time bruh

There is forgiveness to be found in Jesus Christ. We are all guilty, one way or another.
This is so beautiful
I think he is saying what he can to prevent from being brought to justice
I think he truly mean that
subtitles would be good
Oh he's Dutch?
Dutch were hated in Japan. Informers... ua-cam.com/play/PL_qb4YkbxuQyKNt9GdVOy-TIePHQhv7QQ.html
One more thing in this 900 hundred Tamilians died in building death railway.
Did Mr Dutch soldier than apologize for the atrocities committed by his country against Indonesia?
