Pokemon Emerald Hardcore Nuzlocke - Grass Types Only! (No items, No overleveling)

- I tried a Hardcore Nuzlocke of Pokemon Emerald using only Grass Type Pokemon! There's only 8 Grass Types in Emerald, so this was tough! Let me know what I did wrong and what type of Nuzlocke challenge I should try next!
Normal Nuzlocke Ruleset:
1. Fainting = Death
2. Can only catch the first Grass encounter on each Route (Species Clause)
3. Nickname Pokemon
Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset (from Pokemon Challenges):
4. No items in battle (held items okay)
5. No leveling past the next gym leader/E4 (at the START of the battle)
6. Play on "Set" battle mode

@@thedeafeningdunce Because double teaming is an incredibly annoying strategy, designed to make the pokèmon nearly impossible to hit, either stalling out PP or making them able to sweep by being untouchable, making it a scummy strategy, A.K.A making the guy an asshole. The funny part is that magical leaf cannot miss, so all those turns are completely wasted

Breloom is the Goat of all the grass types in Hoenn. It has only 1 downside, it belongs to the "Fluctuating" exp growth group which means it takes the most exp to reach level 100 and the level/exp curve is a very weird peicewise function.
It also has pure garbage special attack, which by gen3 rules eliminates all damaging grass-type moves.
But yeah, Breloom is bae. Alongside Cacturne, which is a free win ticket against Tate&Lisa, Juan and most of the Elite 4.
@@DeuxisWasTaken true, gen 3 rules for attack damage category being typed based really nerfs a bunch of pokemon. For example sneasle is a physical attacker but both dark and ice types are special. And its signature move beat up deals typeless damage.
Granted after gen 3 they didn't get better about matching physical/special attacker to the move pool of pokemon making some pokemon suck for no good reason just because stats and moves don't match.

Hardcore Nuzlocke, but not a 'regular/standard' Nuzlocke where the only rules are to name everything, only catch 1 pokemon per route & if it faints it's dead

@@cattic3550 The base idea of it is that you grow attached to the pokemon. It's more personal to have Bob the Pikachu than Pikachu the Pikachu. And then you can scream "NO BOB!!!" and it feels personal, you know? The goal is to hurt yourself more through emotional connection to your teammates
To some though, it's just a silly thing they do. Especially people who run Nuzlockes more often and are more 'efficient' & 'strategy' based rather than just in it for the fun stories. They'll be more bummed out about their Bob dying because he was good for the next gym, rather than the attachment through a long journey - more often than not. People do still get attached, even if it's not that deep

New to the community so this is probably a dumb question but are you allowed to save at all?
Also, if you lose a gym battle or something does that mean you automatically lose? Or are you allowed to pull a different set of pokemon in the box since it technically isnt violating any of the rules?

That Winnona fight was soul crushing. Say what you will about your performance, but I think your unluck was so unfairly immense. One sweet scent probably could have saved you but I still don't think the game was feeling nice regardless

Hoenn R/S/E had good variety with grass types though tbh. You have Sceptile, Ludicolo for a water type, breloom for a fighting type, Shifty or Cacturn if you want a dark type, Tropius if you need a flying type, Vileplume or Roseila for a poison type and Cradily for rock type

Too bad that Shifry and Cacturne are physical attackers, but dark was a special type. Same thing with Roselia -- special attacker and poison being q physical type.
also, tropius's stats should be so much better. It's such a cool pokemon, i'd love to see it much more viable

This was AMAZING! I've always wanted to do a monotype run (probably not as difficult as this) but this makes it look super fun!! Also you can 100% tell how happy Farmers must be to have stayed alive in that final battle so she could stand tall with the rest of the team! :D

I personally feel like species clause shouldn’t apply to split evolutions.
It’s your run though, so your rules.
But you cant guarantee that theyll survive long enough to actually Evolve. And he would have had two Glooms/Oddishes in his team at some Pointu because of that.
I always read the species clause as being optional. If your encounter on a route is a line you already have, you MAY choose to reroll the encounter. I thought it was supposed to help you avoid being stuck with 6 wurmples, not ban you from choosing to do it.

Honestly? Might be a hot take but I do think Wallace is actually pretty scary for Nuzlockes. Yeah he's a Water type specialist but in Gen 3, where Water's weaknesses are Special AND the fact his Mons are Specially bulky (Gyarados, Milotic, Tentacruel, Ludicolo) gives him an easier time wearing down teams for hardcore Nuzlockes lol. His team has some pretty good synergy to cover Water's weaknesses too. Turns out, Water's an amazing type. :V

Honestly the best gen for Mono Grass. I’ve always loved the typing but this is the only generation I ever attempted a mono grass challenge on. Ludicolo, Breloom and Cradily is just great coverage. Good luck

Hoenn is by far the best region to do an only grass run. You get a full time with different coverage options.

Its a reference to community the television series (at least I think it is, there fourth season was deemed the gas leak season due to the original creator being fired then rehired after that season)
