  • This video coaches you how to calculate how much wax and fragrance you need for a project. Don't have too much wax and don't run out of wax!
    1. How much wax will your vessel hold
    2. How much fragrance do I need
    3. How much wax do I need to melt
    4. How to translate to larger batches!
    Scale:

    Video on Specific Gravity
    • Why are the pour level...
    Calculation:
    1. Fill your jar with water to the fill line and weigh
    2. Empty and fill with wax to the fill line and weigh
    3. Divide the wax by the water and get your ratio
    4. From now on fill any new jars with water and multiply by your ratio
    5. Divide your wax need by the fragrance load (eg. 7.0oz/1.08 for an 8% load)
    6. Deduct the fragrance load from the wax (wax+fragrance=wax requirement)

I am a soap etc maker. Im in a very rustic, touristy town and would like to add dough bowl candles to my line. I like the look of the long horizontal wood wick in a long 10in up to 24in oval bowl. I havemt seen any tutorials on this. Would it be possible to het some help with this? I havent made candles so this is all new for me. I just found your channel and im living your videos!! Thank you!

Hi Nancy - thanks for checking us out! The secret behind any odd shaped candle is that a wick always burns in a circle. Say we went with a wick that burns up to 2.5" in diameter (such as a Premier 775 in Golden Soy 464) - then you would have to calculate how many of these circles you would need. In the case of a long vessel the wicks may be in a straight line and I would overlap the circles by half an inch or so. In the case of larger vessels maybe you need to put 3 wicks in the middle in a triangle to try and get to the corners. It is a matter of trial and error as there is no perfect answer when it comes to wicking candles. Be sure to review wick charts to get estimated melt pools (the circle). I did find this video that might help as well: ua-cam.com/video/ZrE9LQdFslA/v-deo.html
      Cheers,
      S.J.

@@canwax_soap okay but I'm asking about the long horizontal wooden wicks. I can't find any tutorials on those specifically :/

Hi Nancy - same concept - you need to find the melt pool for the wood wick and then measure your bowl to see how many you need. Makesy has a calculator on their site which will help guide you based on the type of wax and diameter you need. @@nancyblake7425

@@canwax_soap I went to their website but I only see the vertical wooden wicks. So I'm not able to get the information on how wide a horizontal wooden wick will burn 🤷

Oh I understand - we do not sell the horizontals and unfortunately I do not have any experience with them. Sorry.@@nancyblake7425
