- We went to visit Ben to check out a HUUUGE fleet of modified Ford Cortinas that he owns with his Dad Paul, including 2 of which that have 340 bhp turbo lumps in the engine bays! 👍
The father and son team are keen drag racers and regularly race their machines at the world famous Santa Pod Raceway.
I myself have been down the quarter mile against Ben in 'Maude' my moredoor Mk2 Escort, Cosworth powered beast was too much for my Zetec powered old banger! 😃

That's my old mk5 cortina. I restored the bodywork. resprayed it from blue to black, put that brown interior in it and put RS2000 4 spokes on it.
I saved it from a banger boy back in 2009. I painted my initials RJ '09 on the passenger front floor.
I've got more pics of it if he wants them.
I have a soft spot for Mk3 Cortinas, so dad's car, but they were all cool, even the modern daily 👏
1979 MK3 Corrina? I believe the MK3 was only in production till 76
The Australian mk3 with the bonnet bulge was for the mk3 with the 4.1 straight 6 from a falcon, my 73 mk3 gt had the diff from the Aussie mk3 as I was running a worked rover v8 with modified celica 5 sp with new suspension geometry. I think the diff in the ute was Borg Warner. We had 1.3 2dr mk3s here in NZ
Hes 22!!!!!!!! I thought late 30s 😂 obvs had a hard paper round, prolly saving for his future ford addiction 😂
Hes defo a very clever bloke for such a young age. 👍
Cool guy 😎 .............love them mk3s .........ultra cool 😎
@@marcushayesfordI defo agree 👍 with a big old bam
You blind pal? In what way does he look late 30’s?! 🤔 He looks 20-25 🤷
He seems like a lovely person how old he looks is irrelevant! He’s very mature that’s all
loved my old Mk3 .... wish i had kept it as spent so much time and effort on it after an engine fire too...and was the mutts nutz when i finished it .
Such a lovelly young clever man , defo set for more brillance !!!!!! Obviously with a very clever loving father .....very refreshing to see ..
Loveing them mk3s ........and that import is proper mint ......the p100 sierra was cool
Ben is a proper decent bloke and it was great hanging out with him and checking out the cars. He’s running 12s @ Pod and I’m stuck in the 14s! 😀
Best video ever 😎 I’m 55 and had all those cortina’s including a 75 GT in yellow, love the mk 4/5 and had many of them including a rare 2.0S, top bloke and for 22 really nice lad keep it up 😍
That white tina is sick, this young man is a legend, i had multiple mk4 and 5 tinas 30 years ago, when i was he's age... we only went as far as alloys lowering, bit of diy, colour coding, tints, fat stereo, some of my fondest driving days.😂
How does a guy at 22 years old get all that knowledge clever man. Thank you Marcus hi cat.
Thanks for watching mate! 👍
He has a good teacher (his dad paul)
LOVE these old Tinas. Such a cool car to turn into a sleeper style like this. Thanks for sharing you cars and the back stories too. 👍🏻
I really love the sleeper feel of these Tina’s too! 👍
I was an apprentice mechanic with Bristol Street Motors back in 1986 and this was when i first learnt of the 1.3 pinto, they were in the very first base model Sierras
Wow, I had a TE Cortina 6cyl with triple side-draft webbers carby👍👍👍
HELLO GOOD VIDEO HAD A MK5 CORTINA.
THEY FITTED SOME CAPRI'S WITH A 13 PINTO. 👍
The rear boot spooler, is from an Ford Cortina mk5 xr6
Thanks for the info mate! 👍
Rear spoiler is Mk5 part of the series X range, the MK4 one is even rarer it extends to the bottom of boot lid as badges are on rear panel.
I have the only mk 3 RS front blade spoiler I've ever seen still in original packaging too..
Awesome video Mr Hayes.
My Dad had ford Mk3, 4, and 5 Cortina’s then the first Sierra which was like a space ship in comparison, air tight made your ears pop as you closed the door.
He always had white cars so I thought Diamond White was a Cortina colour.
I still love these cars especially the Mk3 GTX? I went to buy one for £125 but my finger went through the sill (1992).
It’s amazing what Ben and hid Dad have achieved here. Special machines indeed. 👍
GXL
A cortina mk3 face-lift 2.0 gt one of the rarest mk3s because most people wanted the 2000E very rare and a two door even rarer
Love this guy 😊
Ayy up Marcus and cat, what a kool guy loved the MK3 GT I would have put the cosy in the MK3
Mk3s are super sick .......my father had one
@craigorford9932 It’s awesome that the Pinto makes the same power tho (altho the bottom ends are the same on Ben and Paul’s lumps) 👍
@matthewc.419 iv defo got a soft spot for Mk3s 👍
I Had a 1.3 pinto in my Y plate mk1 sierra back in the day. It only had a 4 speed box and was classed as a economy base model. The car itself was like a primer grey colour, (factory original) . And it was mad on fuel, it went from Manchester to Exeter (with a 4 speed box) on a quarter of a tank. This was about 1991 .
Wow lovely selection of cars 👏👍🫡🫡🫡
i do love a cortina.. i used to own a few of them back in the day even a mk5 2.3 ghia s model which i payed £300 for
I do love a Cortina these are superb .
How come you didn't mention how rare a 2 door mk3 cortina is man,,? Or any 2 door cortina.
You surprised me. What a great video dude. ✌️👍🇬🇧
There not that RARE MK4 2DR IS rarest followed by Mk5 although quite alot of them serve ( alot more than the 11 that has been quoted for years).
Great video guys. Looking forward to seeing you and your dad on the 23rd Ben. 1300 pintos seemed to be a common engine from the French market. An old banger racer trick was to pop a 1300 head on a 2.0 block to gain compression.😅
Same for 1.6 on 2.0 but doesn't last very long on the road especially with the low octane fuel available nowadays.
1300 pintos are as rare as rocking horse poo! Mk1 Sierras were, AFAIK the only model to have them. They're cylinder heads are sought after as they are the best one for modding! Cheers. Leigh.
How much power can you get from a 1300 pinto ??
@@russcooke5671 Probably between 100hp & 130hp. Can be bored out a fair bit like the 2.0, but has a short stroke so would rev to the moon with a light steel flywheel & a balanced rotating assembly. Usual pinto mods apply to the top end.
@@theoriginalwallace can you turbo it.
i am so happy the mk3 got a rebuild my big bro had one but his had round lights but same color its a 2 door m8 the car can zig and zag and do nice pulls even on its stoke motor i love your dads car to bits m8
Hi Marcus, thanks, great video. I love that Mk3 cortina with the turbo pinto, well actually all of them. We here in South Africa never recieved a 2 door Mk3 Tina. I agree with all your other comments from the S.A boys. I thought i would add that the word "bakkie" is actually a slang word that was derived from Afrikaans, which we all call an object that can contain "stuff". Afrikaans is one of our home languages spoken in S.A, which in return derived from the Dutch language. Like a plastic bowl or container with a lid, we would call a "plastic bakkie". Just thought i would throw that in. Shot👍 take care. Top man. From S.A
Thank you Marcus excellent video. Cheers
My dad had a 2 litre GL MK5 cortina in midnight blue when I was a toddler in the 80's. He must have had it a good few years as I still remember the reg XAB 512V. My uncle had the same car but a 2 litre ghia and my grandad had a 2.0 litre crusader. Proper ford family. My first car was a Mk2 fiesta yet I have never owned a ford since.
Very nice builds thanks for the Entertainment 👍🏽
Hey Marcus, the backie has a borgwarner axel, some escorts in Australia also have them. And yes they are considered rubbish
Yes mate well nice car's looking forward to your next video 💯💯💯💯👍
I worked in a ford dealership in Dublin in the late 80s, serviced thousands of sierras, only ever saw 2 1.3 ohc sierras.
Mark 5 Cortina xr6, was manufactured in South Africa in the 1980's
81-84 they where a year out with us, in the 90's I had what I now believe could've been the only Exocet version in the UK never been back on the road since I sold it XEL 46 X
I love the mk5s I’m currently helping my dad build his mk5 with a 2.8 V6 car is factory black which is rare as they never mad a cortina mk5 in black and was a special order through fords
Good luck with the build mate! 👍
Back in the early 80s I had a mk3 Cortina 2 door with a 1.3 pinto! had a 2000E gearbox and I think a 3 ltr Capri twin choke Webber, was pretty quick and revved for ever, only car I ever bent a prop on 😂 #Memories
amazing cars my dad had lots of cortinas mk3 being my fav,
thought it might be an xr6 south african rear spoiler
Great video loved all my old fords MK2`s MK3`s 4`s and 5`s . Brilliant i was luckily enough to own a MK4 2 door with the 1300 X Flow.
And a super rare 2.0 V6 capri. I same as you never heard of a 1.3 OHC .I say OHC because I hate the term used for our Ford 4 CYL single OHC is a pinto. Yes it is referred to as the Pinto.
If you know your stuff then you will know that Ford USA made a 4 CYL single OHC engine called the pinto. BUT it came with 4 cam bearings not 3. Also it was a 2.2/3 liter engine standard NOT the 2.0 we got .
There was a few other differences like the cam cover was wider and squarer.the dizzy was different same as the clutch.
How do I know this ? I owned a Ford pinto country squire. No not the full sized station wagon it was the size of a mustang 2 Door estate.
I had to order parts from gasoline alley in west kingsdown kent a specialist american parts dealer. alas tony passed and its now closed.
Hi Marcos in AUSTRALIA 🇦🇺 a mate of had a TC cortena with a 4.1 litre 6 cylinder motor in it beats Holden 308 v8 easy 😂😅 DAZZA. HAVE A GREAT DAY.
They sure do I had one when I was living in Sydney years ago. It beat everything except a GT falcon
Around '94 I had the TC 4.1L with 350 Holley very mild cam, headers and a shift kitted C4 and decent (for the time) LSD. It looked like shite, every panel was wonky and had 1/2 a rattle can paint job in matte black on ori-ginal faded puke green.
This fucker did demolish a lot of V8's back in the day.
The bonnet for the mk3 is from Old Ford auto services
Thanks for the info Ben. And thanks again for having us round! 👍
@@marcushayesford your more than welcome it was lovely to have you round to have a look
I bought a LHD Sierra, Think originally registered in Belgium. It had a 1.3 Pinto but I thought it was a 1.6 for months.
And I did mess up the chip on my car is from Brandshatch performance + the pickup is ladder chassis like the cortina p100
Minor details mate! 😀
Only rear half is a ladder chassis like all P100'inc sierra.
That white cortina looks like a mk 4 not a mk5 awesome cars tho the mk3 is my favorite 👍👍👍👍
My mistake it's got mk4 chrome bumpers look cool tho bro 👍👍👍👍
@@sheldonpearce2365mk4 chrome bumpers and tail lights looked a lot cooler than the mk5's
Mk3 all day long 👍
My 2000 GT had the auxiliary guages in the centre console angled to the driver
Non face-lift they made a lot of those
340hp?? That's cute. Why stick a 4 cyl in there when these are available with 6 cyl motors with double the capacity? Or even a Barra turbo 4.0 litre?
Great video keep them coming
Thanks mate! 👍
Love that Sebring Red Gt. Mint.
I think the Mk3 Cortina with a V6 would be the perfect Daily for you Marcus😊
But instead of Essex ( Boat Anchor lump the Jag/Mondeo ST lump would be a Perfect Pairing😮
Not as simple as you think big problem is the oil passage that goes through engine mount.
There's a even better engine than the YB Cossies that drops in a Tina BTW and goes straight in it's a Volvo T5R. The 2 dr Estate I'm converting to a van has one under the hood. I'm looking at around 500 BHP around the same as my 2 daily V70R'S. Cleasby Engineering in Meadowfield pushed one of my pintos to 250 BHP. No problem...
Lovely cars, but the 2 door Mk3 is a 1974, not 79 as you said.
dad and son petrol heads love it x
My first car was a crayford mk two cortina 16 GT. In amber gold with a modified engine 110 mph. For a minute or two because it was over revving Beautiful car though wish I had it now. The bmw E30 convertible was based on its looks. Look up pictures of both of them and see the similarities
A really great video!
The white Cortina in Germany is the Ford Taunus MK3 and the orange one is the "Knudsen" Taunus MK1. I'm amazed that the Borgwarner T9 can "take" the Cossi engine! I'm struggling to convert my original Escort MK2 RS2000, the transmission tunnel for my Borgwarner T5 WC. I want to install my Cosworth engine with the original T5 gearbox.
I enjoy watching videos, keep it up!
Greetings
Klaus from Düsseldorf
The type 9 isn't a Borg Warner box it's a modified 4spd box.
All 1.3-1.6 mk3-4-5 cortinas use the koln axle.
You need the automatic tunnel in the escort to fit the BW T5.its physically the same size as the T9.
My 302 powered MK3 has the matching T5.
I always believed that the T9 was also from Borg Warner. The T5 is also a converted 5-speed transmission. You can see that the 5th gear was built in. I want to try to modify my original RS tunnel as little as possible. I absolutely don't like the automatic tunnel! I installed the Cologne or Atlas axle in my RS from one of the only 400 MK2 RS Specials built. It is a robust 75% factory locking axle. It was quite expensive 30 years ago!
cheers
Klaus!@@craigwalker4211
The T9 or type 9 is the ford 4 speed 2.0/2.3 ohc/cologne V6 gearbox with a shorter tail housing & 3 approx 25 mm thick plates housing the 5 th gear.
He is doing very well to not have the gearbox explode behind a cosy as there borderline behind a standard V6 the only thing that will help is wheel spin off the line.
The std cortina atlas axle will take the power the weak link will be the gbox .
Ford originally fitted cossies with the BW T5 then their own MT 75 gbox.
The escort RS originally used the type 9 4speed & came from the factory with the bigger "automatic" tunnel you should only have to deal with the cross brace between stick & handbrake lever & possibly clutch arm clearance.
It's along time since I did rwd escorts their just to expense/stealable for the average man in the UK anymore plus I've always been into cortinas.
Diamond white came off the xr2 fiesta
The backey has probably got a koln back axle as fitted to the Portuguese cortina Mk5
All the SA mk3-4-5 cortinas use the Borg Warner axle.
Nice job once again Marcus and the mk3 cortina for me mate
Thanks Wayne! 👍
My pleasure as always Marcus
You should get together with the avin the crack boys the ford builds they do are on another level and certainly know how to drive them. would be fantastic if you all could meet up 👌👍
Diamond white was a mk4 and mk5 cortina, also thats a mk5 cortina richard grant spoiler (rga)
The axle on mk3 is a borg Warner and the 1.3 pinto actually came in the first sierras in the UK. Europe used them more though.
Diamond white was available from early 70's, Sebring red was available across the range with the other track colours upto late 73.
Never made 79 mk 3
Not really a fan of cortina’s but That mk3 is bloody gorgeous!
Here in South Africa we had the mk3 Cortina "bakkie" and then the mk4 Cortina bakkie. The cortina bakkie to have was the V6 version. -
The V6 would defo be better for carrying stuff than the 1600 crossflow! 😀
The MK3 version used the 2.5 were as the MK4/5 bakkies gained the 3.0 in 77 when the 2.5 went out of production same as here in the UK.
The 3.0 continued i ( through MK2 Granada & sierra where it had factory efi)n SA til around 02 with a 3.4 version available Inc in Mazda pickup s.
The rear spoiler is RGA, very similar to the XR6 spoiler.
Thanks for the info mate! 👍
I think they came with very early sera models
They did do a mk3 p100 in uk
1.3 pinto were common in southern Europe, in Cortina and even Sierra, not sure about Taunus
Is the spoiler possibly off a 1984 Granada ? the 2.8i Ghia X
Could be a cortina spoiler as they was an option for the Tina
Granada rear is to wide but most cortinas have narrow Granada ones ( my crayford does) easy to tell as the pass side has 2.8i moulded in were the cortina one is smooth.
Lol i need to stop wasting my money on weed drink and drug s and buy a nice car 😅 he is one lucky lad with them amazing cars
Spoiler looks like mk2 Granada.
The White Cortina has the wrong bumpers fitted, mk5 cortina’s had plastic end wrap around caps on the bumpers.
Those bumpers are from a mk4
I fitted mk4 bumpers because I prefer the look of the mk4 bumpers
@@benburrows6896 a very distinctive look
RGM (Richard Grant Mouldings) spoiler 👍
That's RGA's new name👍🏻. Used to be Richard Grant Accessories
79 mk3 cortina? I had a mk4 that was an S reg on a 78 plate
I had a 77 MK4. The MK3 is from before 76.
Put a barra in it
Because the Barra was never officially available in the UK.
@@craigwalker4211 250 Cross flow original motor with turbo then triple the power then a baby 4 cylinder
Can someone confirm what "upgrade" oil may have been used in the type 9 please
mercury 😂
Semi synthetic 80/90.
75/90 lsd oil
Thats a audi expeller
He's 22 wow
I thought he was mid-3o's at the start of the vid! Lovely bloke and skilled!
Wtf there all 4 cylinders
Why wouldn't you just put a 6 cylinder in
i would give the black cortina 10:26/41:04 , over to our lad coritna pete at "cortina city" youtube channel to finish it up. 👈👺👀👀👍
No until you said
White is MK4
Nope! Defo Mk5. 👍
Mk4 bumpers on a mk5.
@andrewgreen7778 does look look rather odd with those big lights and neat chrome bumpers. I wonder what a mk4 would look like with mk5 bumpers.
Yep deffo a mk5 has the mk 5 front wings and indicators rear lights and the c pillar is different to mk4 only mk4 bit is bumpers
As above MK4 bumpers on a Mk5 an early one as the mirror is in the roof ( it was moved to the screen in 80)it also has the early GL interior.
79 cars didn't have the outer cutouts in the valance , these like the non lower vent MK4 front valances have been unobtainable since the early 90's
DAGENHAM DUSTBIN.
Has loadsamoney would say I drive a turbonutterbastard
Lads, rip those engines put and buy a barra from australia. 4 litre turbo ford weapon.
Get 800hp easily
Where are the Ford Capri's in your collection??, thoughly enjoyed the video
put a aussie barra turbo in patches more pulling power
