    I have the same Pietta 1861 Navy and I also got the Taylors conversion cylinder also. Unfortunately just like yours its barrel is not the original Navy length. But I will say I have shot a lot of round balls and conical bullets and she's one of my best shooters and the conversion cylinder I can also shoot 38 special hollow base waddcutters.
    Thanks for sharing, great video.

      HBWC is a cool idea. It is pretty accurate with those?

    Just picked up a 2nd generation Colt Walker in the black box, so it's a real Colt! Really liking these black powder guns now. Fun learning more each day about them.

      Picked up the unfired Colt Walker at a gun show and called Colt to check serial numbers, they confirmed it was a real Colt ,found out Colt Archive Service will look up your COLT and send you letter outlining all the fine points of your gun. This is my 1st black powder so excited to get it, bad part the letter will cost 75 dollars. Now want a shooter so your info was great.

      I have several Colt 2nd and 3rd generations. Can always tell a Colt from clones because they have “Colts Patent” on the frame and Col Sam Colt, New York, USA on the top of the barrel. All of mine have been fantastic guns and well worth the extra investment.

    The steel back strap and trigger guard denotes the London Model 1861 so the barrel length is correct Diameter I am not sure. The 1861 model was not cut for a shoulder stock too bad Pietta did not correct the CNC program for that and the fourth screw.
    These guns are correctly described and a completed, functional kit but will need some simple cleaning up.. I have done that on mine replacing some springs and nipples which made it a dependable and accurate shooter.

      You're saying that the London model 1861 had a 1/2" longer barrel? source please. I have found no historical records or reference books that indicate that.

      Colt operated in London from 1852 to 1857! So, no London version of 1861 Navy… That’s not to say that there might be some 1861 navies with all steel.

    Why does Pietta stubbornly refuse to listen to their customers and make the 1861 with the correct length barrel?

    • @jeffshootsstuff
      @jeffshootsstuff  2 місяці тому

      At this point they’d have to start with a new forging to get the barrel assembly diameter correct so I don’t see that happening. The demand just isn’t there. But they could easily cut it to the proper length.

      @@jeffshootsstuff I don't see it happening either, but I'm sure there would be enough increase in sales to justify the expense.

    I recently got one from Old South Firearms. They were running a Father's Day sale and they had them marked down to 299. Hopefully I'll get to bust some caps in her this weekend. After watching this, I'm chomping at the bit to shoot mine!

      @@jeffshootsstuff it's like the one you have. I wasn't for sure what I was going to end up getting because the picture in the advertisement looked to be an 1860 Army model.

    It's too bad that they take manufacturing shortcuts when making the 1861. Oh well, it's still a nice looking piece. P.S. nice shooting.

    Why is it a navy? The caliber?

    • @jeffshootsstuff
      @jeffshootsstuff  Рік тому +1

      Exactly. The Navy caliber was .36, the Army caliber was .44.

  • @SkylineGTR06
    @SkylineGTR06 2 роки тому +1

    Do the ubertis have these shortcuts?

    • @jeffshootsstuff
      @jeffshootsstuff  2 роки тому

      The Uberti (and 2nd/3rd Gen Colts) are closer to the correct length but the barrel diameter is still .67” at the muzzle from what I understand.

  • @Atpost334
    @Atpost334 Рік тому +1

    Two reasons that I don’t buy Pietta. 1) They do things like putting and 8” barrel on an 1861 Navy which is totally inaccurate; 2)They stamp their barrels in a way that makes them look completely historically inaccurate. All it would take is a very little bit of extra effort on their part to remedy both.

    • @jeffshootsstuff
      @jeffshootsstuff  Рік тому +2

      I agree. Both annoying. However, their prices and their quality (and the fact that all their colts don't have short arbors like the Ubertis) keeps me coming back.

    A 5 in is better

  • @Man_Cave
    @Man_Cave Рік тому

    The 1861 Navy never had an 8" barrel. The gun is worthless.
