I'm sure you don't need my advice at this point since this video is a year and a half old, but insulation foil on the glass helps preserve a ton of battery when using camp mode in cold weather. I have a much more bootleg setup with a lot less infrastructure. A double wide inflatable camping pad and 3" memory foam topper is my bed and all fits in the subtrunk along with a spare battery, pump, folding traffic cones (very helpful to get nosy people to keep away from staring into your windows), etc.
What benefit do all that fancy gizmos give? I have a full bath-/bedroom and kitchen stored in my lower trunk + a complete workshop in the frunk. The Trunk is completely usable if not camping.
DREW!!! Thanks a lot man! You along with Kraig Adams are the biggest inspirations for my outdoor life. Please keep on crushing it and inspiring the whole world!
Nice setup! Bjorn Nyland uses insulated roof "sunshades" when he sleeps in EVs in the winter, that may reduce your heat loss overnight. 31% battery seems like a lot.
You can buy some car window covers for $20 or DIY with cardboard and foil for $5. Takes less than 60 seconds to put up and take down. Might be great for sleeping to feel a bit safer.
Very nice!! Brings back memories! :-) I was surprised though to have some campsite owners ban me from their campsite after one night, as other campers complained that 'I had no real camper' (converted Model X with bed, water, cooking, storage, light) and that the site was restricted to tents and campers only, not 'regular cars'. Talking about creativity and an open mind...
Really love seeing this setup in action. How thick is the mattress/bed? It looks awfully cramped sleeping there but I bets it’s still roomier than the Model 3. Great job again!
I think the mattress is about 1.5” and the whole platform together 11”. The entrance is pretty small but once I get in I have about 19” headroom, not enough to sit up right but plenty to sleep in!
Your battery must be perma shot. Between the cold weather, weight from your setup and your auxiliary power/driving to locations it's so much demand on it. I'm very curious how long it will last from constantly getting beat to death.
awesome. I love it !! but the gaz system should be much better... in Asia they use a gaz system in all restaurants for customers... way more convenient.
Really love seeing these vids! Do you think a roll-up floor mat under the sink would benefit more? Also, how do you chop up things to cook with? I'd love to see a full steak and eggs get chopped up without transferring the smell into the rest of the car.
Yep, camp mode was on for the whole night. Normally id use a sleeping bag to maximize heat in my body and not use camp mode at all, but I wanted to see how much energy it uses with the new heat pump!
Definitely way too much battery drain in one night. The weird thing is he superimposes the left half of the screen digitally over the actual car screen, so I’m not sure what happened there, but I slept in my model Y at 10 degrees F (a couple degrees warmer that what he slept in if you covert to Fahrenheit) overnight with the temperature set to what he had it set to, and we only lost a little over 1% an hour. He should not be losing that much charge overnight
Great build. Well done. But the GSI propane stove (connecting and supporting the propane bottle each use) looked inconvenient. At least enough for you to use a jetboil instead. Perhaps a basic butane stove with the can left inside the stove would be a better option? Also, I hope you find some window darkening/insulating covers.
Thanks David! At first it was quite inconvenient, but I have now gotten used the flow and decreased my setup time maybe from 3 min to 1 min. Jetboil is still preferable for fast and efficient boil. Yeah, I have a curtain kind of thing for privacy but not so much for insulating
Thanks Kim! From my bed to the glass roof is 22 inches. Definitely not much headroom but still feels very roomie! I’m using the Moment Anamorphic for iPhones.
Thanks Chalom! Sometimes I sleep and charge overnight at free public chargers or RV campsites. Other times I use fast chargers when on a long distance run.
Thanks Mike! An electric cooker would be really nice but unfortunately the 12V isn't powerful enough. An option to do that is to use an external power storage device like Jackery, but would take up even more space.
@@mikerat409 For sure that's wrong. Tesla specifically says not to use any inverter in the owners manual. A 1000W jackery, which supports pass through charging would be the solution. It could remain continuously hooked to the tesla 12v accessory outlet and basically act as a 1000w inverter.

@@LivinginTesla You inspired me to go camping in my Model 3 twice up at the lake. It ended up being super fun, I got an inflatable mat off Amazon. It's nowhere near as cold in California, I want to say I only lost 60 miles running camp mode and it was around 40F at night.
