Teacher, do you think studying the phonetic alphabet helps? I'm from Brazil, and I have a lot of difficulty pronouncing words in English
That’s an excellent question and I’ve thought A LOOOT about this. In my experience, shadowing the sounds as closely as possible, and approximating the pronunciation of a native speaker as closely as possible for all the sounds is sufficient. You do not need to learn a whole new, often confusing symbol system to learn the sounds.
I personally have NEVER learned the IPA, and my pronunciation in all the languages I speak is, I think honestly, is pretty good (French, Spanish and Portuguese). But YOU do what you feel will help YOU best to learn pronunciation. It is your journey and you must make the decisions that you feel are best for you. GOOD LUCK!!!
