The tiltrotator was invented by the Swedish company Rototilt in the 1980s. For the last 20 years almost every single machine over here run rotators. It is simply brilliant and very dependable. Im sure you will have a great time using it once you get the hang of it!
When you get good with the rotortilt, you wont need that guy with the shovel to put gravel on the hole with dynamite, you will easily do it yourself. Here in Norway, almost all machines in proffesional use have rotortilt.
Could not agree with you more. I use to ski with my kids, but as age and artificial knees have slowed me downa lot, I snowmobile more often and my kids have not bought sleds yet, not sure if they will too considering the cost and bad winters (lack of snow) over here in the Northeast/ New England. BUT we still pull out the ole runner sleds when we have icy terrain and race each other downhill. Those days I wish I was 30 years younger....
As you said, here in Sweden you can almost not rent a mini digger without a rotortilt. The engcon factory is about 70 km away from were I live and I have been on a tour there once.
@@zaxx1857 They are stupid expensive here in Sweden aswell, even if they build them next door.. But since we know how much better job you can do with them and you don't need a guy with a shovel we buy them anyway 😉
That slider door might cost as much as your snowmobile but you are far from poor.(I know you're not serious). The time you get to spend with Jerry's and friends in places (mountains) most people can only wish to be able to ride and see is priceless. That is one rich, happy place in my opinion. Keep up the best snowmobile videos on UA-cam 😊
As a guy who works at a John Deere sub dealer I love to see equipment I have not seen before! That's a super sweet set up! I would love to see some 245s come through our yard! Keep up the hard work so you can play harder!
Hopefully you keep making excavating videos! I enjoy the snowmobiling videos but I’m also subscribed to 2 excavating UA-cam channels and enjoy watching both.
Once you get used to tiltrotator you can do so much more with just excavator. It takes little time to get it. Be carefull with tool change, ec oil system blows o-rings easily if bucket change is not made correctly.
I found the rotator is AMAZING for finish landscaping work!! Really nice to dig in ditch and perfect for adding drainage. The possibilities are endless!!
We have two of these and you can go in to the programming and change which way the rollers go. These tilt rotaters are awesome and makes life way easier digging around utilities. We have one on our 9k pound machine and or 40k pound and on the bigger one we are constantly fighting leaks with the quick attach. And don’t get the compactor for the big one they blow out the seals all the time.
It’s really good seeing you get an Engcon! It makes everything so much easier. In all American videos I see on UA-cam, there’s hardly anyone having even a bucket quick connect.
I was so glad to a new video from you! Any kind! I'm sad your sledding season is over too, mostly because I won't see you shredding it up! I quess I'll just have to watch the other guys for awhile. Have a good summer! I missed seeing Cloe this season!
I work with distribution network in Finland and I have never seen digging machine without engcon/rototilt. But one guy can dig, install cables, pre-fill distch, install warning tape and finish landscape by him self without come out of the excavator. Next machine what to buy is radio controlled soil compactor.
And here i am, waiting for my new honda snowblower thinking... I spent a decent amount of change. Good for you guys investing in, and learning something new.
in finland we be using roatators for years and that make work so much easier when you learn to use them, when you are working places what are small and l with homes it is must have
If you look at the wrist in terms of how much less hand work you need, it pays for itself in a couple years just from that alone. the amount of things that are possible with that function that would be near impossible without it are almost endless, and the longer you run it the better you get.
A tiltrotator pays for itself within a year or two in fuel and time savings alone, not to mention wear and tear of the undercarriage since you don't need to constantly track around to reposition the machine, the only time I'd take it off is if I need the extra breakout force or using a bigger bucket to mass excavate or load out trucks with heavier materials that is harder on equipment. The tiltrotator makes the excavator a true multitool that can be used for pretty much everything on a job site, that's why wheeled excavators have become so popular in Sweden as an example, put on a tiltrotator, a machine control system and a dump trailer to carry your attachments and you can do anything almost anywhere, it's brilliant.
When I purchased my tilt rotator, I told myself, I will take it off in the winter to keep the wear and tear, as well as salt abuse from transport to a minimum. However I changed my mind quickly, I won’t run the machine without it. It just makes the work easier. Cutting through frost, excavation, backfilling and so on. I remove it only to run the hydraulic hammer. I’m sure you will change your mind as well.
Only done some digging for my self. Thankfully they all had either engcon or rototilt fitted. Wouldn't want to work without one, just that you can constantly change the angle of attack on the bucket and even when dumping it on a trailer you can be so much more gentel.
I was wondering if you were going to hang it up for the winter since winter pretty much left. What a bummer this winter has been. Made the most of it tho. Also it’s pretty cool to see you and your father’s life outside of snowmobiling and to see how you make a living. Looking forward to the next video whenever that may be. Take care and God bless. Enjoy your spring, summer and fall.
We had a volvo operator familiar with the rotator do a single motion sweep with a bucket around a water drain cover to smoothen it out. No need for shovel or manual labor. Was one and done for asphalt after that.
If you take a knife you can pop the switches out of the joystick and flip them around so when you push it right the engcon goes right. For some reason they set them up backwards from the factory
I know nothing about construction so this was pretty cool to see. Curious to see you in a couple of weeks or months, you'll be fast and smooth with it!
I live in North Bay, we sold our 245 with a rototilt and it was ok, but mulching with a rototilt is hard on it, just violent, i love you can uncouple the rotator now. Once you get used to the TR you'll hate going without it except when you're hogging material or ripping frost/stumps. If the rocker switches for the controls don't feel right you can change them around. You can do it the quick way by popping the switches out and flipping them around or you can link your phone or a laptop to the little computer in the cab and change the direction the switches control, change what the switches control (ex if you wanted to change tilt and rotate functions between joysticks, etc). When my setup was new it just didn't feel "right" but after switching the controls around with the computer it felt more natural. I have my tilt and rotate opposite yours but it's all preference. Regarding attachments, you'll probably find that the Engcon smooth edge ditch bucket, skeleton/sorting bucket, and their cable/trench bucket work well and feel "right" on the machine. I haven't tried it myself but have been told numerous times if you remove the bolt on cutting edge and only run the factory welded on cutting edge the ditch bucket works much better. Their digging bucket with teeth has weird geometry and is too "long" of a floor vs normal North American buckets. A lot of us have quit using the European style digging buckets in favor of normal North American style buckets with the S coupler put on the top. I use a Tag bucket but I know others really like Craig buckets along with CMP, AMI, etc. You'll be amazed at the difference with a conventional style digging bucket under the TR vs the weird European style. Also the Engcon/European style grapple is infuriating and don't trust it for holding a firm grip on something over anything important. Their single cylinder design with a linkage to control the other 1/2 of the grapple and no locking valves leaves a lot to be desired. Unfortunately many of us have learned that the hard way, a lot of guys have gone the way of putting a CMP non rotate grapple under their TR, it's on my list but haven't gotten around to spending the money and ordering one yet but every time I use the Engcon grapple I'm ready to spend the money. They're a fantastic addition to a machine, especially for someone who's working by themselves, in confined spaces, or around lots of obstacles. Like you said watching good tilt-rotator operators is super satisfying, and lets be honest if you've seen on UA-cam the Ken White Construction channel, he's a Canadian guy as well and his channel is a really good size, definitely lots of public interest in this type of content. Plus Jerry would be a fun ass guy to see more content with other than only the winter content!
Rotators are nice for landscaping but they seem to get in the way for most applications like digging trenches. Nice toy for sure, I will probably put one on my next 13 ton. I spent my spring budget on a McClosky S190 screener.
@@MuskokaFreerider They are pretty slick though I am sure you will put it to good work landscaping. You should post more construction stuff in the off season. I own a construction company and do class 4 septic too, always cool to see how others are doing things.

That’s why you just take er off when it’s not practical!
@@MuskokaFreerider They are pretty slick though I am sure you will put it to good work landscaping. You should post more construction stuff in the off season. I own a construction company and do class 4 septic too, always cool to see how others are doing things.
You might be off a bit on your guesstimate on those sliding glass doors we are on a project that looks smaller than that and the budget was 750 k for the windows and doors.
I know here in b.c the weather this year sucks shit but weather it's sledding vids or your earthworks footage, its still muskoka freerider content and i lov it. Them new deeres and attachments are sick as fk man. The work you can do after getting good with them will help out big time.
Maybe now you can rip the lakes or high speed ripping the trails around the great ontario land of yours. And them hats are killer to. Gonna hit up the merch line now, need one of them
Do not know anything about excavator but i love when you explain how it work and why you do it this way A++++
For that rotator switch you should be able to pop that switch out and flip it so left is spin left then right is to spin right.
Wow just can’t imagine how well those people are doing. Trudeau probably doesn’t like that and has already taken a huge chunk of their earnings!
Supposed to be above freezing and rain here in Malakwa this week
getting spoiled with a brand new tilt rotator on a neww excavator. would love to try one some day
come to Idaho if you want some snow, in some spots we've got three feet!!!
Might do a little road trip
3’ two days ago, another 4’ last week! It’s been epic but the warm sunny days have been settling it a lot. Great in the draws and trees though.
have tou thought about ordering new sleds? would be really cool to see you run the new 858 next year🤟🏻
Cool work! Safety first
Nice to see Jerry
Honestly I could vibe to summer uploads
Nice to see the construction videos
You dig mostly residential foundation and sewer lines? I was a residential carpenter contractor in Chicago’s western suburbs for 22 yrs. 54 and retired today. 👍
Badass man. I definitely wish I had the hand/eye/foot/brain coordination to be an operator. Unfortunately I choose the path of fixing the shit you guys break 😂
Awesome video as always man. Love from good ol North Pole, Alaska
Awesome can't wait for more content
I have been working on that company that makes rotorilts! It’s awesome to build actually 😅
Nice set up with the autolube and light bar on the cab! Engcon makes a good product all though service for me has been iffy at best. Your only missing some Trimble gear and you will be all set!! Also, seems like there is alot of money in Muskoka? What does every one do lol
That looks like so much fun! Heavy equipment looks like ALOT of fun!
I love the work/snowmobile videos…..I build pipelines as a welder, I’m around excavators everyday, those attachments would be super useful. But yeah Jerry might be right, $140k Uffda!!!
Great content either way. Keep it comin.
Happy to see you finally got a rototilt :)
Hey there Matt. I’m in the same boat fella. I’ve been in an excavator way too much this winter and only on my boost one time. We have no snow in the Midwest. I see Santa delivered the machine to the wrong address, I would like my new excavator back please… make sure you throw topcon in it for me before you send it back…. Thanks
I’d love to come work for you guys if I wasn’t out west 😂 never tried the engcon but a lot of time with steel wrist and cat tilt rotators definitely worth the money on most machines! I’m sure you had it down after the first full day!
Loved the construction video!
Im from North Bay, and just bought a 315F excavator, hopefully I can afford mansions like that someday lol.. And Rototilts are not great for blasting and mucking work longterm lol
In finland you can find tiltrotators in every excavator its weurd if operator doesn't have it
