My first trip to the UK was 1998. I had to go there for a wedding but I decided to turn it into an 18-day adventure. I spent a good portion of that time just riding around on the trains. Beautiful scenery and you can take the train almost anywhere.
Everything is so GREEN! You looked so wistful looking out the window of the train! What were you thinking? Remembering old times? I hope this visit is everything you wished for...
Beautiful scenery.. I really enjoy seeing the English countryside. Your music is so beautiful and soothing. I would definitely buy a CD if there are ever any available. I hope your trip back to your home has been everything you hoped it to be!
My family came to America from Grimsby. They crossed the Atlantic on the Olympic and the captain was the same man that went down as the captain of the Titanic. Thanks for the video.
Beautiful springtime in the countryside, lovely accompaniment - trains that run more than once a day and know how to move! And a glimpse of Mum. :) Can't wait for the next installment
You have DONE IT, Lawrence.... You SMASHED IT with the music and video from this intro to Grimsby by train. Loved the music, and loved 90% of the video shots, (a few I couldn't decipher) just great. Thanks for taking us on the train with you. That's exactly what I wanted to see and be along with you on your journey from London to Grimsby. Explaining to us Americans that London to Grimsby is like Chicago to Indianapolis ... we are smart enough and get around to understand that; better than thinking Grimsby is like Westchester from NYC. Looking forward to your next episode, in which I hope we meet your mum or some close relatives anyway, and they give us the real dirt on you growing-up in Grimsby. Thanks for this wonderful trip. Edited to add: some of the countryside on the train trip, I re-played that at half speed, wishing I were there in England again to see it in springtime, so gorgeously inviting and mesmerizing, always.
Lady Jane - Well we need better, less expensive, faster, trains that are actually on time. If our rail service was like Switzerland’s, Austria’s, Germany’s, or Denmark’s we’d use the train more often.
@@sunflower9680 There are very few in the States, and they take forever. 19 hours isn't unusual, no high speed and stop at every..single..station. Appreciate what you have - it's far superior to some other countries.
Lady Jane - that’s a good point, i always wondered why Americans rejected high speed rail and rail travel in general, i guess it’s a car-commuting nation. I just know we could do so much better with our rail, but our politicians are letting us down.
@@sunflower9680 Cost aside, there's very little difference between the train service in the UK and, say, France and Germany. I've used rail networks a lot around Paris, Munich and Berlin and use rail most weekdays around Bucks/Home Counties and those urban areas are all broadly comparable.
Laurence, your music is so beautiful, as is the English countryside. You've given us all a snapshot of a place most of us have never seen (but may want to, like me 😉)..so I can't imagine why the thumbs down. 😲 😞 You never had to show anyone anything. You could have just visited your family and friends without any filming at all. So I just want to let you know how much I appreciate that you and Tarah have taken the time and effort to continue to film your experiences while you're back home. I, for one (as well as many others) *sincerely* appreciate it. 😘 xx
I'm catching up on these videos now after a couple of busy weeks with end-of-the-school-year stuff. A lot of videos I have been watching on a little bit faster speed but I had to watch this one on regular speed so that I could enjoy the music. I loved the tour of the countryside
You should search for Geoff Marshall and Vicki Pipe and "All the Stations". They spent last summer (or was it the one before?) travelling around the UK by train, visiting all 2,000-odd stations.
Very nice music. Impressive. How does it feel to be home? There is no place like one’s homeland. Enjoy rest of your stay. And yes, Amtrak sucks. Once, I got in 8 hours late. Thank God for interstate highways. Our ‘high speed rail’ is automobile. Lol
That was a very good shot, watching the scenery pass by in the window and then in your eye. Nicely done! Things even looked like you personally were regressing in your mind as you took the trip backwards toward your home.
Great video, and awesome job on the music! Absolutely mad professional grade. Well done Laurence. Hope you guys are having a great time. Stay safe in your travels.
Ever the same farmland. I'm enjoying this virtual visit as I haven't been back there for nine years and that was not for the happiest of reasons. . . .
Well, I echo along with the other comments, I thought the music was really nice also. As we watched the wonderful English countryside go by I was wondering what was going through little Laurence’s head. Well, Disbelieve that he was finally back in his homeland! Excited, but apprehensive on reuniting with friends and family, wondering what has changed and what has stayed the same in Grimsby. I’m glad you and Tarah only had to wait 30 minutes for the next train, we’ll have to wait until the next video posting! :o(
The first thing I was reminded of was a Rumpole of the Bailey episode. Rumpole is talking to someone he doesn't like, who then leaves to get lunch. Rumpole delivers a mighty Rumpole curse: "I hope your sandwiches come from British Rail."
My memories of amtrak are one train a day. And it can stop at 3-4 in the morning. Surely waiting half an hour for the grimsby train is hardly a hardship
They have wind turbines like Indiana too. Interesting. Obama mentioned building a high speed rail between Chicago and Washington DC with a stop in Indianapolis. I wish this would happen!!
The Democrats floated that idea but no one thought that train passenger travel was worthwhile anymore. There was that idea of a Maglev train to ferry freight from Indy or Lafayette to Chicago. It never got off the ground because it was was one of those "shovel-ready" schemes during the Great Recession and it required a lot of state funding as well. Shovel-ready schemes were never shovel-ready, of course -- just boondoggles.

I assume it's the abbreviation of the railway name? Outside the train window looks like "Monarch of the Glenn" with all those trees and bright green grass. It's a sure sign that you've become an American, Laurence, when you start talking to complete strangers in random places.
What a lovely ride even if it was 8 minutes late. I’m sorry you missed your connecting train. Otherwise you got to show us the gorgeous greenery of England. Maybe it was worth the fuss? I personally think it was.
