    Thanks for watching! I segmented out this video from the longer 4 ways to vacuum seal for those who want to learn just about using a brake bleeder. LEt me know if you have any questions below!

      I'd LOVE to watch your video but UA-cam is making me watch a 19-minute ad before watching it. I just thought you might like to know cuz that's messed up. I took a screenshot if you need it. I don't know much about making money on UA-cam so maybe it's not a big deal. I just hope it doesn't impact you too negatively : )

      Did you put a oxygen absorber in the jar ?

    I wanted to tell you I purchased a Brake bleeder pump about a year ago, but I took extra parts from one of my old vacuum sealers and cut off one end of the hose and modified it to fit the brake bleeder. Now I don't have to hold it on because it has the end of the original part of the vacuum sealer attached to the end of the hose.

    thank you for mentioning to take a second lid, invert it, and set it on top. That was the solution to my problem.

    Darcy, a little hint I learned from Rain Country to make using the brake bleeder easier to pump is to place it against the table or counter and then just push against it, so you don't have to squeeze the handles. I have arthritis in my hands, so it's almost impossible for me to pump the brake bleeder the normal way. (Sometimes I get my son to do it, too...haha.)

      Much better option to have your son do it :D :D :D

    When I use my brake bleeder I put it on my hip and pump. That is the easiest way I have found to do it. I do not get nearly as tired that way.

    Great video. I bought a brake bleeder because my husband can't find where he put our brand new food saver. And I don't want to spend the money for another one. We got it new from a yard sale. I'm like but I have to vacuum seal now! Lol

    If you are handy, and mechanical like me....
    Just take a hose, hook it to the brake booster on your car or truck...then start the vehicle. Instant, easy vacuum strong enough to seal these... and won’t hurt your car.
    Also, Vacuum is measured in “Hg” which is “inches of mercury” not PSI.

    I, ve seen this before but they laid the handle against the counter and pushed the handle. You don't get tired pumping. That, I can do.😊

    2 questions. I haven't found answers to any where. 1) For long term storage do you put rings on too or keep them off? 2) You said between 15-20 psi is what you're going for, but Is more than 20 psi okay? I heard somewhere else that the stronger the vacuum the better.

    • @ThePurposefulPantry

      Rings on for dry goods, off for canning. It's fine going higher as long as you don't break your jar :D Yes, it's fine.

    I have a vacuum sealer but read from comments using the jar sealer option puts a lot of wear onto the machine. I don’t want to do that so I’m going manual with dry goods. I wonder if you know if the machine’s tip and tubing will work with the brake bleeder? By the way, thank you for this short & sweet tutorial. Versus the rambling, prattling lengthy versions about this of another who causes my eyeballs roll back into my head. 🤪 👍🏻

    • @ThePurposefulPantry

      If you can attach that to a brake bleeder - then go for it. But I don't have a way to know that. The brake bleeder comes with tips to use so that you don't need to use the machine for any reason.

      The tube that came with my lid sealers did not fit on the brake bleeder. So, I cut the end off of one end of the lid sealer hose and, after a bit of manipulation, it slid perfectly into the end of the brake bleeder hose. Perfect seal between the two hoses!

      Make sure you're holding your seal well. If the nib isn't at 90 degrees, you're likely losing air there.

    When you can and Vacuum Seal Onions in a glass jar and the jar is sealed after the lid is sealed tight after picking up the jar by the lid. Is it normal to still smell a slight scent of the Onions from the jar?

    • @ThePurposefulPantry
      @ThePurposefulPantry  Рік тому +1

      The vacuum process is pulling out air, so you may smell it that way .

    • @ThePurposefulPantry

      I don't know of all that you are trying, but it's important that the nozzle is perpendicular in the hole - not slightly tilted in order to get a perfect seal.

    • @tennesseeterri
      @tennesseeterri Рік тому +1

      I have a lot of jars, some old and some new. Some of the older jars will not seal no matter what you do to them. if the jar will not seal try a different lid. If that doesn't work try a different jar.
