We worked Mary Chapin Carpenter at The Park West in Chicago in early 90s. People started dancing on tables and I had to get them down. She was very friendly and visited with the crew after the show.

I met her at a local fair when I was 7 and I was in aww. She pet my dog and gave her her own hot dog. She's so nice and I knew her songs by heart even then.
I was a raised by a single mom in the 90's and I really don't think there is a better depiction of that spirit of strength and grit. She always says, "everything we got, we got the hard way." We love you Mary!
A great wise woman who doesn"t have to play the "over the top sexy card" to win votes for her music. Her music with her on-point lyrics speak for themsselves!! She is a crazy poet ringing the bell on behalf of reality...thank you, the world needs you!!
Hey Sally, three years later and I agree and appreciate your comment. The sexy card is that and not much more. Mary has Natural Beauty, Appeal, and Charisma. I'm thinking your people notice this in you.
@@anthonybowditch7805 It appears they are friends and remain connected. Also, they are on a yt video together. Also, Roseanne Cash married the man who formerly collaborated on projects with Shawn Colvin, who Mary Chapin Carpenter often tours with and is a close friend. So, that's the good crowd!
I am a pretty recent regular listener of Mary's on thr scale of things, i had never heard of her until about 2 years ago when she came on the country radio with "passionate kisses" from the same album as this song as it happens, well after i heard that i wanted to hear much more and now i have most of her back catalogue on cd which is listened to pretty often to be honest, I'm so glad i found out about Mary in the end
Mary in the '90's was in a class by herself . All those great albums and selling platinum and multi platinum such as Come On Come On . What a great era in country music along with the golden age of CMT & TNN Networks that brought so much talent to life in all those music videos . I did not know John Jennings had passed on . Play on forever John . Thanks for the info Ed . The album Stones In The Road was another fine one . The song and video for Shut Up And Kiss Me with Lee Roy Parnell just rocked .
I saw MCC with the Mavericks and it was one of the best concerts I've ever seen. I was hoping she'd rock out and swing that hair of hers and she didn't disappoint! Thrilled as I saw Patty, Kathy, Suzy, and Trisha. I used to do this song in our band, so it's a thrill to see this great performance. When I saw her live, at the end of this song she changed the lyrics to "now she's in the swimming pool and sipping lemonade", so when I performed it I did too! (I like those lyrics even better!)
MCC was at the top of her game this year (93) and kicked *ss at the awards shows. BTW, she is the only artist to have won 4 consecutive grammy awards for best female country vocalist. Unfortunately, she was never really seen again on the national spotlight after this year. It's too bad because she was clearly one of the most talented of the female country artists of the 90's.

Mary Chapin Carpenter's circle leads me to these women too: like you said, Lucinda Williams, but also Shawn Colvin, Gretchen Peters, Tift Merritt, Emily Barker, Allison Moorer, Shelby Lynne, Joann Pochop, Mary Gauthier, and I may come back to add or to correct spelling.
I love her so much. I love Miranda but she’s about the only current one, other than kasey Musgraves, that I like. The 90s country and other genres was fantastic. I miss it
What's up with John Larroquette going all "Duck Dynasty" in the early 90's? Oh, and Paul still has just a little bit of hair hanging on before he goes with the bald look.
Probably THE most underrated Female artist from the 90's
@@rameychisum2891 underrated and Unappreciated are most assuredly two different things. Hopefully you are able to understand the difference.
Wrong.
I heard that she had a lung embolism and was out of action for three months.
Very good person too

"Forgiveness doesn't come with a debt," one of the greatest lines ever in a song.
it would be a great song for the casinos to play.

What is it about these American female country singers - fabulous. AND - I hear the great John Jennings on guitar, sadly no longer with us.

Doesn't have to and refused to play the sexy card.
MCC takes me to church and brings me to tears...everytime.
She is a one of a kind and unbelievably talented, she's still killing it today on UA-cam singing her songs. Just amazing.
"Forgiveness doesn't come with a debt." So true!
A brilliant singer and songwriter who is always at the top of her game.
Such a Gorgeous Talented Incredible Heart & Soul!
She’s a super star. Taken me until now to realise how great she is
Beatiful Mary. John Jennings (RIP) always great guitar solos.
This has to be one of the best Letterman musical presentations ever.
Lot of competition for that title ;)
Was lucky to see her in NYC. Love her music~
She is by far the best female artist that I know of. I love all of her music.
Mary in her prime kickin major ass!!
One of those artists that just looks all-around great when playing.

I love this song ❤
What a great song after all these years.
How sweet is that John Jennings' guitar solo at 2:43!! Gone way too soon at age 61 in 2015.
so understated the camera didn't catch who was playing it!
Great song/words by a classy lady.

There have been very few exceptional female songwriters in Country Music. Dolly Parton, the late great Cindy Walker, Lucinda Williams and MCC
