The undisputed king of jazz guitarists .No one has contributed more to this art than Pat. He infuenced and taught so many young musicians.I personally know of two guitarists that studied with him .
Most jazz guitar players learn from him and keep it secret. This guy is one of the greatest, finally getting the recognition he deserves! Incredible player!
Pat's Performing at Chris's Jazz Cafe (2 Shows) 5/17/14 in his hometown Philly. I'm going with my Wife, My son and I'm bringing Mr. C. of (Trudy Pitts and Mr.C) who played with Pat and John Coltrane in Philly back in the day!!
The thing about Pat Martino's playing his swing. He swings soooo hard. Very few musicians of any stripe have his level of groove and swing. Jaco Pastorius had it. Herbie Hancock has it. There are others for sure, but when Martino's hands are in the guitar, the damn thing swings and sings like nothing else...
I just love how he holds the pick like holding a fine paintbrush, like almost saying 'excuse me strings, I'm just gonna lightly touch you' and the magic starts flowing
Yeah he's a monster player alright. I've been trying to slow down his records on VLC player and even at 33% it's quick. I'd guess he does a lot of "casing" of key notes and chromaticism which account for his off sound at times.

10 years go by fast. Watch these greats while you still have the chance.

Pat...thanks for all you do. You're an inspiration to jazz guitarists and jazz lovers everywhere!!!
He is consistently himself while being a humorous and humble cat in real life! To me that is the real lesson behind the great's music.
Catch by Pat Martino. The song appears on the albums "Live at Yoshi's" featuring Joey DeFrancesco and "Interchange".

This Benedetto guitar is my favorite tone in his colections.
The drummer is Carmen Intorre, Jr. Still PM's trio drummer. Yes, he's terrific. Organist may be his current one, Pat Branchi, but I can't see.
