*I set the kart up like this because understeer is more dangerous than oversteer. Definitely gonna look into a track in the future, I totally get there are safety concerns.
I know cops watch out for people pushing too hard on the Dragon but I get it. I'm no big criminal but don't mind getting a little wild. Not many tracks can be a fun and have such nice scenery. There are a ton of roads just like the dragon. Especially around East TN. And the law isn't watching so closely. Gotta watch for gravel in the road after a rain. It would be a great ride to go on top of the Mt. At Windrock off road. There are many miles of gravel roads to rip and not many laws. Thing about riding high up the Mt. The view has made me remove my seatbelt a few times. Getting thrown out vs flipping a mile down near vertical rocks is a toss up.
💯 % BADASS BROTHER
what gear were you in?
Those commenting as regards safety aren't demanding track use, just that you exercise some self control, pick the appropriate time and place and then when it allows have fun.
Those commenting have in the main , " been there - done that" in the speed and adrenalin game. They want you and all others safe and storytelling on the porch at the end of the day.
Cool build, turbos overkill but needs must! Get some hours in the seat prior to final install tho.
An only one ginger karen!
Oil slosh will destroy your engine specially doing drifts.
Bike engines are super sensitive when they don't lean when cornering.
Either get a oil pressure accumulator or dry sump.
But that thing is so awsome.
Yes this is a great comment watch "Fast Matt" on his car with a street bike engine that he blew because he was on 5he track and the oil wasn't pumping because of this exact issue. For real V you need to fix the oil pump and oil pan if your going to be racing this thing, it will blow man!
@@timwegman5776 I was going to say the same.. "Fast Matt has done this to his Honda S600.
Add more oil to accommodate the slosh.
The dragon is great and one of the best roads here in my home state, but you sir are one of the reasons it is so dangerous. It's not usually the curves that get people, it's inexperienced drivers who have never been and cannot STAY IN THEIR LANE. Hopefully you learn that lesson the easy way before going back.
And leaking coolant on that road is a big no no. Super cool build but anyone local or familiar with that road is exactly right in saying he is one of the biggest threats up there
And don't drift around the turns on a semi-packed day with motorcycles coming right by him
I agree, but as an European, everything in this video is ok. Nothing too bad. I mean, when winter hits here, we are drifting whether we like it or not. Understeer, oversteer, whatever.
Next time, try to remember..."Your 1/2 of the road is on the right side of the double yellow!" 😎
I was going to tell him the same thing. Lot of people get hurt down there because of that.
@@johngarretson3272 no, just 1, the other guy
He can see exactly where his tire is too, no excuse to be going over the double yellow.
Tell that to the bikers too.
And don't drift around the turns on a semi-packed day with motorcycles coming right by him
Very cool kart. Remember that is a public road and your "line" is in between the white and the yellow lines.
Hey for future reference, Things with coilovers or oil dampened suspension, I like to put blocks of wood under the chassis and strap the car down onto them to keep from having coilovers over compressed for extended amounts of time. It also helps with hitting bumps and the suspension loading and shocking the straps when the springs return. Can prevent unwanted loosening or straps/hooks popping off.
Is this better than straping the tires?
This. On our FSAE car we removed the shocks and replaced with beams when we drove it cross country. You're putting needless miles on the suspension otherwise.
I secured it by the arms so the suspension doesn't compress
Also over heats the dampers
Pretty cool that you took it to the tail.
But simple rules up there.
1. Don’t cross the mustard
2. Not the best place to try and slide anything.
Probably should’ve towed the Miata with that! 😂
I agree with the Ginger Ninjer 100%. The tail of the dragon isn't the best place to attempt a speed record or push it to its limits. I rode it in 2006 with a brand new GSX-R1000. The most memorable things I remember are 1) a Goldwing can absolutely fucking get it. 2) when their road sign says 15 mph, they mean 15 mph. In ohio, there isn't a caution speed sign you can't easily double.
I'd take it a little slower on pushing the limits. Get some more seat time and don't get emotional and adrenaline hyped and end up making a silly mistake. I know it's easy to do-- I've rode 1000cc bikes for years. Just take it easy and let yourself get better over time. It's a lot more fun to go all out later, once you have full confidence in what the thing can do. After you crash one of your toys, it takes away all the fun; so just be patient. That's one thing I wish people would have told me back when I was still learning and driving like a maniac.. You don't need to be slapping the rev limiter--- there is more than enough speed by fast shifting; You don't have to have the engine screaming to the max to do it. Play around at shifting at different RPM ranges and learn where the power is happiest. Learn everything you can as you're driving, don't just stick to hitting red line-- try to avoid that actually most of the time. Try to drive it as hard as you can at only 3/4 throttle. You'll learn where the best torque really is and get better at your shift timing etc... A lot of times you will want to come out of corners in a higher gear than you might think, because then it won't spin the wheels -- and you'll actually get more power to the ground- power that you can use.
It’s a gsxr, that revs to 15k plus rpm. It’s power is literally in the higher rpms. You sure you rode?
@@Cou-yonLogiC The power is no good if you're just out running your gear and slapping the rev limiter--- or coming out of a corner and nearly spinning into the ditch every time. I'm talking about "usable power. Everything is easy on a straight away. On a bike you can lean; but on a buggy, it's no longer a bike -- you have to become a race car driver. So take it easy until you do, or you WILL wind up into the wall, off a cliff or in the ditch..... and Yes, I rode a CBR900 (stripped naked) for years, awesome bike. Now I have a zzr1200, which was the fastest bike in the world when it was brand new. I also turned a wrecked cbr600 into a quad and took it to the dunes several dozen trips and half of those I had my girl riding on the back with me. Pretty sweet build..... I've also put a 500cc Rotax engine from a snowmobile onto a 2 seater buggy--- and like I said-- it's not longer a bike that can lean; you have to learn how to drive it differently, or you will be spinning your wheels and spinning out a lot; or you can learn how to drift it and go that route-- but learning how to feather the throttle rather than full WOT at all times is still a factor in all of it. This thing will still have good torque at 10k to 12k RPM, and you can race through the gears and be going more than fast enough through those turns-- and doing it all without burning through your tires and putting extra wear on your engine at the extremes, overheating it -- etc. while you're still trying to learn. Learn how to drive it well there, and then you will be a speed demon when you go all out. You can learn so much more about your cars when you're not leaning on WOT as a crutch. Learn how to do all the other things well, and THEN do it at WOT later and you'll be in a different world. Just saying... Everyone can see it; when there's a dozen bikes going past you in the other lane, and you're sliding around the corner about to dart off the cliff or swerve into them, etc. It's not a good look-- and I guarantee you that several of those guys were not happy to see that and probably would have gave him a little speech about it. Learn to drive it well before you drive it 'fast". It's just common sense.
man you were just up there gobblin up that mustard...might want to look into that driver mod before going back to the dragon.
Love the way it sounds, perfect road to show off it's abilities..
I would have to agree 🤜🏻
Everything sounds good at 14k RPMs..
This was the loudest vehicle on the entire dragon that week.
@@nickarnold8417 Yeah.. Mufflers are a thing
@@calholli sounded way better than straight piped Harley farts when they race up the hill. So expensive, so loud, so slow.
What I find interesting is the car is keeping up
I was there and it wasn’t super fast. SUUUPPPERR LOUD. He needs tires for that road. Looks like he was just spinning a lot
Those VW GTIs are pretty decent handling in the corners. I had one back in the early 2000s and it was a fun car. Mine was a VR6, so it was a bit better for touring than for tight twisties.
Ridden the Tail of the Dragon 7 times. It is a awesome ride on 2 wheels but scary as hell with the 4 wheeled vehicles crossing over into your lane. A straight line is the fastest route on a track but when you have to share half the road you have to treat that double yellow like it's a wall. I have no parts from my bikes on the tree of shame but have helped haul a few bikes back up from the cliffsides. That first turn is a killer as most guys tear ass up to it and dive in hard on cold tires. Needless to say they low side it.
Only things I would not do next time are: 1) No need to down shift from 2nd to 1st on those corners. Your making it hard on yourself to control the exit of the corner and forcing more work on you and the engine. 2) Try to set up a air cooler for the oil. The cooler oil will allow the clutch to live longer pushing the heavier cart. 3) Better tires in the rear. You have street tires in the front but your running a genaric tire in the rear. A bike and that kart live for grip and you are starving it of that, which in turn robs you of performance.
Big fine for crossing center line
Fines are permission slips for the rich
Next time if it goes over 225ish park it, doesn’t matter what it is.if the cooling system is working 100% perfectly on a stock motor temps should not be rising over a safe limit . While only the worst thing I’ve done while overheating something on accident is blowing a head gasket and I would hate to see you put back that amount of time
still waiting to see this thing at a dragstrip!
I have some parts on the tree of shame from when i first took the road lol with that being said, it only takes me 10 min from one end to another with no yellow line crossing. 😅 one BIG thing you don't do here... cross the yellow and don't ride/drive beyond your limits.. hospital is an hour away and it takes about that long for anyone to get to you if you're hurt. Ride/drive safe 😉
Brooo this is so sick! You built that thing with your bare hands and now your ripping it and learning how to drive it. So cool man
he is special it's his passion and I just know what it feels like at that age my grandfather rated hillclimbs all up and downeast coast to top of my Washington held the speed record for couple years late 50s early 60s in a car he built and his biggest advice was it is "crucial to have as much brains u do braun"
As a result of watching your build on this cart I am going to register mine for street use. I have spoken to Dirt Legal and should have this arranged in the not too distant future. Thanks, again , for putting me on to these guys.
How he made this is beyond me. Big respect ✊🏼
I know right 😆
Sound carries so well in the valleys that the cops can just pull over and listen to how folks are driving. They definitely hear that thing from five miles away.
Man I love your builds and videos but that tree is decorated with people who crossed the yellow line or had someone cross into their lane.
All worth it I'm sure, Great job and a far cry from some of your first builds.
damn.. shots fired. lol
Enjoyed the video. And you did a good job on the build 👏 👍. Next video Vasily.
yes it's fast these roads aren't meant for fast driving... be careful and
be smart
You built a unique high performance machine. I hope you attend to its mechanical needs and maintain it well. Be good to your machines and they'll be good to you. Protect your investment. Learn it's limitations and be aware of your own limitations. Respect the machine, Respect the road. When that adrenaline rush hits don't lose your head. Good work brother. Liked the video.
:if something breaks, I got a camera." w mentality
Vasily nevermind the haters bro. Unbelievable build as always.
Very cool build. I've been following it all along. Some advice if I may from my road racing days. The chassis should always far out handle the engine not the other way around. Just for your safety brother. Maybe some staggered tires and lower pressures in the rear. Also may want to look at some tuning on the suspension so it can maybe put that power down better
FYI - you can rent a pickup with a trailer hitch. Cheaper than fixing a car.
Not if you're younger than 25...
Plan was to drive my Miata through the course too
@@VasilyBuilds Towing overweight at 70mph at over 3k rpm for over an hour tends to do that to engines. Provided they aren't designed to do so...and Miata's aren't.
I’m pretty sure he knows that kid. He wasn’t born yesterday
Man, its so motivational to find channels like yours. Life has been crazy lately and I'm just trying to keep my sights on my goals.. just watched the Banshee Swapped Grom and now this vid.. totally gives me what I need to keep pushing myself. I've got an older Yamaha Blaster I've been building up, it's got a ported cylinder/exhaust and one tooth down sprockets in the front and rear. She's a little torque demon! Anyways, thanks for firing me up - I'm off to the garage! Can't wait for your Banshee gears to get there! Best of luck & stay safe man 👍👍
Thanks for that! I'm honored and hope to be more inspiration
Love how the gti keeps right up
No need to turbo if. The chassis already can’t put the power to the ground. You really have to learn to stay in your lane on a road so heavily used by motorcycles. You can’t make videos from prison, and if you hit someone and kill them, that’s where you’ll go for a bit.
Maybe next video can be a brain swap!
People are so obsessed with “power”...
I was honestly surprised he left that in the video
@@Retiredroamers The kid doesn’t need a brain swap. He’s obviously a smart kid. He just needs people that have made those mistakes to steer him in the right direction.
Yeah, there is plenty of power there. He needs better tires and a track that doesn’t have oncoming traffic he can hurt when he makes the mistakes we all made when learning.
Been there with a sport bike and a 650hp ZO6 Corvette but honestly I think that crosskart would be more fun. Don't feel bad even the vette overheated it's engine and steering. Went into limp mode without being able to complete the whole road
Next........Vasily at Pike's Peak!!! 🙂
Yes, I would call that a success 👍😎🏁 🏍
Dont even know how I got to your channel! But that was awesome!
Brother the exhaust sounds nice in that thing
Looked like fun . Just stay safe out there man , I totally understand it’s easier to say than do when sat in the seat and that adrenaline hits 👍
one of ur best performance vids yet, love it love it love it
Also, the head gasket on that engine is probably toast now.
Yeah these engines arent made to rev 😑
@@mangsonicr3152 they’re definitely made to rev. What they’re not made to do is run at 250 degrees for any length of time. Nice try, though. An attempt was made, and you deserve a gold star for it.
Wonder how many turns you covered in coolant. Not fun for the motorcycles that had to ride after that. Coolant is very slippery... Especially for motorcycles.
Had the pleasure of following a box truck through there a few years ago that emptied his rear diff across half of the Dragon.
Yep, better off riding the roads around the dragon, and leave that road to the dipshits.
You gotta chill on the road, dude. Keep the fast driving for closed courses.
It's the Dragon man....nuff said...
Yo need to take that on a race track because you will never exploit the cornering potential on the road. Deffo your best build yet👍
Was waiting for a Max Wrist pass
Dude. A 1.9 TDI swap in the Miata would be cool! Make it the stangest tow rig ever.
The red light is an oil pressure warning light, not an oil level light…I wouldn’t be surprised if you lost a lot of oil out of the water pump drive hole when it came out.
No doubt the over heating caused the mechanical seal to fail in the water pump too.
Maybe a track or empty road would of been more suitable for a shakedown, that way any spillages could of been dealt with, or it wouldn’t of effected other traffic as much
MAN YOU DID A DAMN GOOD JOB BUILDING IT!!!! AWESOME JOB
You have an awesome cart! So cool that it is street legal!!!!!
Kart worked great. Such a cool build.
Do you know what yellow lines are for?
You’d think with a small lightweight buggy you’d be able to keep it on your side of the road
Love the rules for passengers. :) That mini formula car is awesome. lol. Sure sounds like one.
need some r888s and an alignment on that thing, would be a mountain beast for only 100whp ish
I bet you have some epic Killboy shots!
Ford GT is my dream car since I was a kid.
Looks like a good time on the dragon!
Wow that’s freaking awesome I want to make one of my own your a very smart man
That kart is badass. Love it!! Would love to throw a more modern R1 engine on that thing and see what it would do. Going from 110hp to 185-200 would make that kart even more fun.
No... no no no..
It's already deadly enough. If you want to go 1000cc, you need to have your buggy tuned tight. You need to have better tires, better suspension, better brakes. etc.. 1000cc on a buggy that can't handle it is just a death trap --- unless all you're doing is drag racing it. This thing is plenty -- just let him learn first.
Very nice build. I have had both my zx10r and my mazdaspeed miata on the dragon and yes you don't need a lot of power for the dragon to have fun. Have you thought about putting a chain driven lsd in the back?
Yeah.. a solid axle is causing the rear to slip every time you turn.
Sick dude
I took a stock 04 Mustang GT up there and its enough to get in trouble with the landscape but enough to enjoy the experience also
Love it
I was flying beside you on my cbr1000rr hearing those songs. I'm not sure I can do it for myself anymore.
Nice work Mike & Co / Love your style ❤
The sound is crazy 🤪
you gotta get some good tires on this thing if you’re gonna be taking corners next to motorcycles like that homie
Cool video that thing looks super fun , be awesome on a racetrack
Looks like a lot of fun! 👍
Wish I could have seen yall up there! I have a Miata setup for the dragon! Hopefully I will see you up there soon.
Great job with the buggy .that thing sounds great! .
Awesome! Love watching this thing rip!
That's crazy I got a serpentine belt job done and my cars feels like it's bucking.. I look at my coil packs and im a detailer.. I noticed the cover is dirty not ceramic coated how the rest of em are
Bruh the new merch is so fireeeeeeeeeeeee
Sounds like a F1 car to be honest. This thing is cool
「モータースポーツ」いいセンス、好きですよわたしは
Love the Cart...
Keep up the good new OG ideas!
Man I’ve been following for a good while and I love the buggy but I’m a little disappointed in the wreckless driving around the bikes. I understand they to push limits time to time however you could of easily hit someone and that would be the end. Im still going to watch and enjoy the builds but I’d save the wilder rides for a closed course, there’s enough evidence in this video alone for all sorts of legal issues
Awesome! Looks like the chase car was getting misted from your coolant leak.
You should get vid of you pulling the miata with the cosskart just for Shitz and giggles 🤣
Awesome build bro Absolutely love it 🔥
Love this build. You might benefit from a steering damper
And traction control haha
@@kyles5513 Yeah... gotta pull some lead out of his foot.
Keep that exhuast set up it sounds like a p1 car 👌
Living in Hamilton county myself and wanting to building 4x4 cart one day, I need to know how you managed to make your cart street legal! Awesome builds
This build was sponsored by a service called Dirt Legal. They specialize in registering off road vehicles for the street.
Way over the mustard bro. Keep it in your own lane, and within your skill limitations.
All that coolant all over the risd wonder how many riders went down because all the slick shit he sprayed all over the road
Sick I'm coppin one a dem hoodies fo sho
Cool build, but next time keep it in your lane... crossing the mustard is a big NO.
Looks good!. Maybe leave the sunf’s at home for the next one 😉.
Also wider rubber on your rear tires. I’m a mechanical engineer btw.
The way the back end was kicking out on the corners. It looks like it need a wider an a softer compound tire. The tires are building heat but about time you get to the corner aply the brakes most the heat in the tires is gone. An thenyou have to build it back up again.
My brothers buddy rides his motorcycle out there always wanted to go check it out
A quick shifter would make this thing crazy
That road is beautiful for the rest stops and ugly when drivers think it’s a race track.
Seen enough bodies flying off motorcycles on that road from drivers making bad choices.
I seen you at goonzquad!!!
Be careful dude, taking some of the risks you do is foolish. Getting that thing crossed up on a public roadway with oncoming motorcycle traffic is really poor judgement as now you are placing others at risk as well.
Seeing the title made me think of that old movie Airborne the rollerblade movie riding down the Devil's Backbone😂
I’d stay away from the dragon until you learn how to keep that thing in its lane.
Come to New Zealand my dude, garauntee we have twisties unlike you've ever dreamed of. Sick build 🤙
Imagine the cost of taking a car on a 14 hour flight. lol
@@calholli would be worth it though
