    I mistype as an Istj, as a result of years of constant emulation, behaving in ways which are more acceptable. Ironically, I find myself in the company of SP's, because of the ease I have in emulating an ideal type for them. I even identify with Istj descriptions, but know they are describing my mask, and don't get at the heart of who I am. When I watch the videos on Infj, I 100% relate to everything, positive and negative. Mistypes can happen as a result of answering questions based on consistent behavior, caused by societal expectations, or nurture. There were many times I wished I were not Infj, because then, I wouldn't feel doubly misunderstood. Being "rare" really isn't desirable to the person who has lived it--at least, if you were berated and unaccepted for being "weird"-- unfortunately it feels like, even when you are loved, you are loved for being someone you are not.

    I don't know about kids being diagnosed with ADHD because of being intuitives. If I (INTJ) had been diagnosed as a child, my life might be very different.
    Edit: But I completely get what you mean. My family moved when I was a child. When I met the girl across the street, the first thing she said to me was, "You're weird." So yeah, I get just what you mean.

    I believe that starting the video off by mentioning how common or rare a certain type or temperament is counter productive because most people (regardless of type) will have special snowflake mentality and want to be unique and special, and convince themselves they’re probably one of the rare types. It’s their fault for thinking this way, but ijs we could help prevent it if we didn’t bring up things like how rare a type is in these kinds of videos.

    I’m fairly confident I’m an SJ, but ( and perhaps it’s a product of the people I surround myself with) I hardly ever seem to notice this N type hate. If anything, it seems people tend to flock behind NTs. They’re not weird, they’re interesting. Idk maybe I typed myself wrong, this whole hatred against others who aren’t sensors seems false. I’m very risk averse, and highly opinionated, but I don’t really hold a bad feeling toward risk takers, as long as it’s thought out. Now if your rash, loud, unintelligent, and unproductive, I’ll probably have an issue with that.

      When you are in a place of social privilege (the majority), it is hard to know what it is like without that privilege. This is the same reason so many men deny that there is systemic misogyny. since they don’t experience sexism themselves, they can’t possibly know how it permeates everything. Similarly, the very subtle ways in which I have been othered, ostracized, disregarded, or otherwise made to feel different as an entp, would completely fly under the radar of a sensor whose brain works efficiently within the system. I have a very well developed Ne-Fe relationship, so I am very very good at masking this and “sensor passing” when the social situation calls for it, but I feel much more at ease amongst other weirdo intuitors.
      I can small talk the shit out of an SJ, but once I let loose and reveal my freaky brain that vomits a million ideas a second and makes reeeeealy tenuous connections without much explanation, SJs often see and treat me like a totally different species.

    I know you talked about the INTP stereotype of the gamer getting fat in his mother's basement, but most INTPs I know are rather thin, and I might conjecture that the prevalence of SJs are part of the reason why we have an obesity epidemic in this country. Obviously weight/health-management is more complex than eating habits alone, but I think certain temperaments may be *predisposed* to overindulgence (due to the desire to receive physical sensation). Thoughts?

    • @CSJoseph
      @CSJoseph  6 років тому +8

      Heather Bryant INTPs can be endomorphic or ectomorphic, I never met one that was mesomorphic. People who overeat, it’s usually a lack of discipline (low Si) or they have a poor microbiome in their gut

    • @heatherbryant4197
      @heatherbryant4197 6 років тому +1

      C.S. Joseph Interesting observation about the lack of mesomorphic body types. I can't say I've inquired enough to gather any statistically significant data to confirm whether that consistently holds true in my experience, but I've definitely known quite a few ectomorph INTPs.
      I actually wouldn't categorize microbiome consistintuents as contributors to over-eating, per say. (Unless you're arguing a "psychobiotic" impact, on second thought). Resident species colonized in the intestines, like Akkermansia muciniphilia, contribute more to digestion regulation and fat distribution/metabolism than actual caloric intake. Christensenellacae "skinny" bacteria are also genetically-linked, and, coupled with bacteria affected by diet (like ruminococcaceae & rikenellaceae), other factors that are both physiological and genetic, such as the threshhold at which Leptin is produced, the factors unrelated to diet can get rather complicated. Microbiome, leptin, ghrelin, Neuropeptide Y, LipoProtein Lipase (and thereby estrogen), Hormone-Sensitive Lipase, other hormones of lipogenesis, thyroid levels, insulin resistance, ketosis & ketoacidosis, hyperplasia of adipocytes from childhood obesity (vs regular hypertrophy), BMR, diet & lifestyle, not to mention external cues like conditioned responses and cultural influences... I'd say all those fall under the category of "complexities" outside of personality I alluded to. Maybe I'm just splitting hairs 🙃
      But you did answer my question as to the influence of cognitive functions (low Si). Thank you 😊. I'll have to let that steep. ☕
      I've also read studies that correlate novelty-seeking with obesity, which I suppose does make sense in the case of some INTPs. Also higher reward-dependence and lower "persistence." That study used the Temperament & Character Inventory though.

This might get boring but brace for it. In my family, so far from 5 members that I know, my 2nd brother is an ISTP, my only youngest sister is an ISFJ, my mother is an ESTP, my daddy is an ISTJ. Now, that is still normal, still got SJs and SPs. I know their types through interaction styles, not through a test by the way. Let us look at my close friends. I got 3 INTPs, 1 ENFP, 1 ENFJ, 1 INTJ, and the closest to me is an INFJ, then 1 ESFP. Wow, how weird is that? Lol. Heck, what is even weird and good is, I am the one WHO INTRODUCE this theory to my close friends (and all of my close friends are NOT SJs, most of them are intuitives). Can you imagine, a concrete type introduce this abstract theory to intuitives, and I secretly analyse my family members? Like, whoaaa Yus, stop right there! The saddest thing in life though is an SJ whose family doesn't fit with their area, so the other SJs aren't their types of people. They are so lonely and angry

    While reading about SP types, I've assumed that they're the type most into "sensory experiences" (fashion, traveling, experiencing new stuff etc...), which led me to the conclusion that Se is the only function through which one can live in the moment and "enjoy life". But in this video, you've talked about how it's SJs the ones who are more interested in "receiving sensation", while I thought that Si was about re-experiencing sensations from the past (so unrelated to the present, whether it be giving or receiving). Is my understanding of the Si/Se functions wrong? Are there more about the "direction" of the sensation, rather than the moment when that sensation occured?

    • @CSJoseph
      @CSJoseph  6 років тому +8

      hamouchou10 it’s technically both. Se needs to share sensations with others, Si can enjoy them on their own and likes to have repeat sensations. Variety vs. originale

    Dude, I swear, I don't know one intuitive in my family. Most of them are SJs and some other are SPs... I'm an INFP and of course, I'm the black ship and looser of the family. I'm "the crazy" one. At least, they think I'm funny but they don't take me seriously at all.. Mom and dad ESFJs, sister ISFJ, aunts ESFJs, cousins SPs... There's one cousin of mine that told me he was an SJ but I'm not quite sure because we get really well together and I think he's a NP.
    Well.. I actually felt kinda sad with this video and I totally get your disapointment with our society (I'm from Brazil and I believe most of people here are SJs and after SPs). People that are different will be seen as crazy and stupid. My mom always say that I'm crazy, and she's always trying to make me fit in this SJ world, getting married to a guy that is from the church, and go and be a missionary, and have a common job that I don't like but at least I'm doing something and getting money out of it and then having children and DIE. LOL I see life as something that's way more than that but I just don't know what to do unless fitting in and tring to be a part of the group. I've been trying to do me but, my parents see me as naive, stupid, and that's it..

    Why do SJs struggle making decisions about what they want?
    And why is it that they both live with an experimental "YOLO" mentality, AND want to play it safe and follow the past?
    Also, with both intuitive types, there was a bit of a split- two kinds of idealists, two kinds of intellectuals. Is there a similar split for guardians, and what would it be?

    You mentioned that the US is a very xSxJ focused society, which I figured made sense because I recalled from before in a different video of yours that xSxJs make up 40% of the population, but then you said that Japan is a much more xNTx focused society and that made me wonder, is there something that Americans do that develops their children primarily into xSxJs, or something the Japanese do that develop their children primarily into xNTxs?
    Unless people of different mind types flock together into different countries, as in xNTxs just end up moving to Japan eventually as well as xSxJs to America or something, there must be something that made it end up that way, I assume anyway.
    I’m curious of this
    :o Do you know why it's like that?
    If everyone really has their type from birth, it leads me to wonder if cognitive function types are connected to genetics somehow.

      @@CSJoseph I mean their feudal and post feudal monarchy ideals are now largely gone, sure, but I still see this stubbornness of sticking to "what works" even among the younger generations to a degree. It is probable that my subconscious is just over exaggerating the opposites of each eras here, but I almost view the post feudal Meiji restoration in to the WW2 era as being one of a very NT mindset as lots of new Japanese state innovators, theorizers, and philosophers came to existence in this period and is one of thew reasons that Japan advanced as well as it had both industrially and in influence as opposed to say China who kinda struggled with this new vs old mindset and couldn't really stick to either, causing their instability and stagnation for the next 50 years until the 1950s. Japanese modernization after all came largely in the form of fascistic, statistic, and imperial mindsets of how to increase influence and relevancy rather than the more Western notion of becoming more democratic over time, so when Japan was defeated in WW2 and to a degree de-radicalized into democracy, this ironically made them less innovative and go back to a more laid back traditional mindset almost paradoxically.
