So much is made of Ben's tenacity and unorthodox style - but can we take a moment to appreciate his sportsmanship? Guy is super chill, doesnt get bent out of shape with bad calls, and is just there to compete and have fun. If for no other reason Ben should be an example to other players out there of ideal on-court behavior.

It was ET that got me into watching club players bangin it, and got me into watching the Tennis Troll channel (no more new content sadly). It's RT that keeps me watching club players now. I have tremendous respect for everyone involved in this endeavour. I wish there was RT in every state to eventually meet up for a national competition.
MEP is back and it's a modified MEP, with big turbos, blow-off valves, massive downpipes, and with a 4 inch exhaust at max PSi going at it like the world of tennis is about to end. Love it.
Thank you Ian, Scott, James, Jules, of course the 2 gladiators MEP and Sean.

I would be really interested to see Sean play a 4.0. If you just looked at this video, you might think Sean is a 3.5. I do not think that is true though. As a solid Atlanta 4.0 myself who has also played Ben, I can assure you that against Ben, none of your shots feel like they work. You are constantly getting balls you do not normally see at 4.0+ but the spin and placement is so ridiculous that you feel like you cannot do anything. I think one of the reasons 4.0s have a tough time against Ben is because often the things we lack at 4.0 are active feet, approach shots, and volleys. I believe effectively executing those things against Ben are the way to win, but my footwork simply is not good enough. I think Sean had the same issue. Decent speed and decent footwork are two different things. So many fast people still lack the footwork. Hope to see more of Sean in the future.

Tim Wakefield used to throw 35mph knuckle balls that no one in the league could even touch, he would strike out guys as they were standing at the plate and watching the ball land in the strike zone, Ben reminds me of Tim, and a guy I play against a few times a month named Herdon. Herdon literally plays tennis with a Walmart Wilson racquet and beats people by getting every single ball back in play. The last time I played the guy it took us almost 3 hours to finish 3 sets, and I thought I was going to die on the courts, because down here in Florida the courts are hot enough to fry a egg on the court.
I am so impressed with Ben’s spins he puts on the ball and he is serving better than before, and I would love for Ben to be my doubles partner because he has really good hands and great touch, plus I am 52 years old and I can’t move as fast I used to. By the way looking good Scotty and Ian with his new haircut! I am missing the Cheese from Wisconsin and I am going to have to send you guys some money for some cheese so I can make a proper Grilled cheese sandwich. 😊I am so happy to see Ben back on the Courts, and Yahweh willing I will be back on the courts soon, after my knee heals. So thank Goodness for you fellas putting out videos for me to watch while I ice my knee up and workout to get my knee fixed up! I also wanted to say thanks to Mark for the stretches he told me about it’s helped out so much. Great job on the video and Congratulations to Ben and Sean on their match it was a pleasure to watch both players go at it! Thank you RT!

This is so fun to watch! I would question my very existence if I played against him. Me panting, huffing and puffing, and Ben casually hitting frustratingly slow passing shots by me as I run awkwardly in the wrong direction. Its never the blasting fast shots that are frustrating. Its the crafty well placed slow shots that hurt your ego, and make you want to hang up your racket and start knitting.

Great to see MEP back, maybe this'll light a fire under TennisTroll to start posting matches again!
So never noticed this before, but Ben's serve seems like it would be great to SABR against. Very little spin, absolutely 0% chance of a kick serve, and he tends to put it in the middle of the box more often than not. Although I guess that wouldn't help Sean since he doesn't seem comfortable with coming to the net.

I guess they gotta build gradually, but the fun of MEP is when he makes some cocky guy's polished strokes break down - this first opponent is a little MEPy himself with the push serve and the dink backhand slice (MEP hits both harder, it seems!), so there's a some contrast lacking.

Sry but hell no. He is a scary opponent for 4.0 and low to mid level 4.5s that struggle with certain parts of their attack game(short balls and slices). The average 5.0 usually has a much better control, depth and stability that enables him to neutralize the unorthodox shots of MEP.
As a 4.0 I played opponents like him a lot. Now as a 4.5 that is able to beat good 5.0s these opponents are relatively easy to beat. Just keep the ball deep until he plays a short ball. Then shorten the angles and let him run or just finish it with a winner.
I respect MEP a lot because I learned the hard way that technique isn’t worth shit when you play guys like him when you lack stability, fitness or polish to your shots and tactics.
MEP often uncovers the weaknesses in the game of his opponents and then picks on them. This often leads to a downward spiral of self doubt and frustration…
I must also emphasize that he has really polished his game. His nasty sidespin slices, especially on his forehand would be a nightmare on the indoor carpets that we usually play on here in Germany…

just by looking at the first few minutes, i can already see that Ben's strokes have improved. also much less pusher touch touch kinda stuff although still a fair bit of slicey stuff. he is also using a little bit more of his non dominant hand for balance. definitely a better player than a few years ago. well done on the improvement.
He is overall better and more consistent (baseline, net, serve, probability, IQ) than Sean at this point , with all due respect.
In a nutshell, Ben's game has actually become more orthodox. 🙂🙂

Shawn looks like one of those players that has a nice looking backhand and can beat up on most run of the mill rec players - but it doesn't give Ben any trouble. So Shawn starts trying to run around his backhand to hit forehands and he's not quick enough to cover the court after hitting inside out forehands. I see no path for Shawn to win a set - his weapons do not put any stress on Ben. But I appreciate him for putting himself out there. MEP is so match tough - I can't imagine trying to beat him. You either have to be in very great shape to win a war of attrition or have a lot of firepower to take the racquet out of his hand.

One of the things that MEP' s do is that they hit deep balls very deep, 99% in en with almost zero spin. It doesn't look very great but it's actually annoying as hell because as a 'conventional' tennis player you never get into a nice comforting topspin rally. No free points and you have to create all the pace and spin yourself. It's really a test of your true level. 4.5 and up (like Scott) can manage this and brush MEP's aside. Below that you get exposed like a snail in the sunlight.

MEP is a veteran 4.5 players. He would easily absorb your power (assuming you don't have 5.0 level power). I would try my best to stay in my comfort zone and play it out using my most consistent shots and also hoping my legs will hold up against his. If you follow his matches, the worse losses were from those who tried to out-dink/drop/lob him. They probably thought "I can do it too" which is partially true. However, it's very taxing playing out side of your comfort zone. You may be able to do it for 5, 10 minutes, but gradually you mess up your timing, focus, confidence and die a slow painful death.

I have a group of friends playing 3.5 at nationals right now and Ben would roll all of them and it would not be even close so I seriously doubt if Ben would bagel most 3.5 national level players that even a 4.0 SoCal player would have a chance. @@Pinworms666 Playing like one. I think they are both supposed to be 4.5s. I don’t think he is a 4.5. I’ve only seen the beginining and I’m out, not really quality I want to see. I’ll check back after more have watched and if comments are suggesting it’s more interesting.
