I understand why you don’t want to say the name of that VNSH holster. But since I’m not a content creator, I’ll point out that it’s a VNSH holster and right now they have it on sale for $80 (regularly $129) on their website. I think it’s important to name the brand so as to keep everyone informed in making their own decision. I agree, hot garbage.

@@OGsDangerShow I just looked it up and saw the price and that was my reaction, too. You can get good holsters for less and very good holsters like a T. Rex Arms Sidecar for just a few bucks more (base holster there is $100).

@@OGsDangerShow $60 if you use discount code FREEDOM. And you know they are _still_ making money at that price. I can see what they were trying for, but dear lord, you demonstrated so quickly how bad the design is. Especially with two of the most prevalent firearms in concealed carry use. If they'd taken the 5 minutes you did, they would've been able to figure out that the design needed serious refinement. At least on their site they do have an offhand mag carrier that is super securely attached with more of the not-velcro plastic hooks into the fuzzy not-velcro fabric of the belt.

I was taking an informal class that involved drawing/holstering many many times. Classroom setting, no ammo in the room. We were re-holstering and there was this obvious "CLICK" in the room as a firearm dry-fired. The instructor said, "Uh oh, who just shot themself..." The retention button had slipped inside the triggerguard of a striker fired pistol and set it off. In that case, it was an OLD form fitted hard leather holster that the strap had worn until it was floppy ... I can see the same potential for a similar incident here.
It's important to make sure even good holsters remain in good condition as well.
    Thanks OG.

Well...tailor made holsters don't exist for _every_ firearm that currently exists, and sometimes you need something that fits "well enough" until someone does make one, or you find something better. Try searching for holsters for something that's a bit outdated and/or obscure, or even a gun that's just new to the market. Choices are going to be either extremely limited or non-existent for either of those two categories. In that case, a "good enough" "universal" holster might be all the option you actually have.

Good that you "reviewed" this "holster."
I'm also retired LE, so of course I still keep certain good habits. Yes, forever watchful and forever noticing.
At least 90% of what people wear for holsters are complete junk. Essentially, if that holster doesn't say Bianchi or Safariland on it somewhere and have one active retention mechanism, don't buy it, don't wear it. There may be other ones out there that are good, just haven't seen them.
The rare times holsters come up for discussion with a carrier I can always end it with "great! So when is the last time you did a retention drill?"
Anyway, good on you that you didn't shill out.
However, the one exception I make on the "Safariland and retention mech" is for chest rigs.
I use Kenai holsters for chest carry up here in AK. Absolutely the best ones I've seen hands down.

I’m a retired law enforcement officer with 33 years of experience. I agree with your assessment of the holster. That said, I carried a chief special in an ankle holster for about 10 years early in my career. The best way to carry is with your firearm accessible, concealed, and comfortable. The only good thing about carrying your firearm in a holster like this is just like my ankle holster, carrying your firearm rather than not carrying your firearm.

The first time I saw one of these, I knew it wasn't good. It reminded me of those maditory useless backbelts that were once all the rage in the workplace. They, in a short amount of time, lost elasticity, and the velcro would no longer grip and actually did nothing to support the lower back and prevent lower back injuries. They actually contributed to more back injuries by installing a false sense of safety in the wearer that they couldn't get a back injury while wearing the belt.

I think the 2 magazine pouches are to make it ambidextrous, since the shape is symmetrical, it looks like you can carry a gun in either orientation. As for my holster, I use the AlienGear Cloak Tuck 3.5 IWB, and I love it.

I actually purchased this holster last year out of curiosity. Once I received it, I tried it out with 2 of my pistols...a Springfield XD .40, and a S&W M&P22C. The results were kinda horrifying.
With each pistol...when trying to slip it into the holster...the holster would push the slide back. I had to hold my thumb on the back of the slide just to get the pistol to seat correctly. Definitely not a good thing.
When I contacted the company to let them know I wanted to return the holster and get a refund, they responded back that I could keep the holster and they would still refund my money.
So...I have this holster sitting in a box in my closet...and was still able to get my money back.

Very informative. 20 odd years ago, when I was an unfortunate resident of caliunicornia, (Visalia and Tulare) my only side arm was a TZ75 that I carried in a stiffened nylon holster that had the mag holder on the forward surface of the holster. I liked it since I could just grab the whole package, and clip in on my waistband and go. It had a thumb break snap but I guess the snap strap was flimsy enough that combined with the relief around the grip area, when I broke the snap, it would fall away allowing my hand to fully grab the grip and go to work. I did practice enough that I was fair with grabbing the spare mag since I have pretty long arms, but not great. That said, if I had used up my 17 shots from the first mag and was still in a fight, there was plenty else going wrong. I did get a two mag carrier for the weak side eventually. Thanks be that I never had to pull the pistol in a defensive situation. Thanks for all the info. If I get to where I can carry again, it gives me much more to think about. Thanks OG

OG, I have seen the ads for this particular product. One thing I have noted in the past is beware the company that tries too hard. Follow up found that the wear out real quick and threads pull fast. Even their ads when they detail features raise questions that you just outlined. I had already termed this a garbage months ago but you did great supportive follow-up. Hope the retirement adjustment is going well.

Thanks for the video, OG. I have been so tempted to try one of those but the lack of trigger guard has prevented me from trying it out. I've been so tempted that I almost asked you to send it to me. The flappy straps are a no go. Not to mention it is way thicker than portrayed in the commercial. When I carry with my kidex I feel like I have a VCR stuffed down my pants. When i get to 170lbs, i know it's time to cut back on the cookies so you can imagine i don't have a lot of real estate to hide my shield plus.
I would love to see a video on acceptable holsters that are slim for slim people.

Yeah thats a No Bueno, but good on you for the G40. My G40 an G20 serve as a Hunting gun, an a SD weapon. But I use full flap holsters to keep the weed an seed out of the G40, Blackhawk Operators in M81 pattern, kydex holsters in Lev 1 for the G20, always under cover an only carried in the winter. But thats just me for my purposes. In shorts in the summer, its generally a pocket 9mm or a .380 ruger max, with a spare mag side mounted on the belt, hey its Fla an hot an steamy 8 mo of the yr, you ought to see my white chicken legs, its a sight to behold. • @twa2471
    @twa2471 Місяць тому

I live in the country where protecting my firearm and retention while hunting or doing chores around the homestead and wood lot are my primary concerns. I primarily use the "Uncle Mikes" nylon holsters for that and have for many many years and found them best overall for me in that application . I do have many other leather holsters in different styles for concealment purposes that work extremely well for when I'm out and about and don't need to worry so much about damage to my firearm or needing such a high level of retention .
The Kydex holsters I absolutely hate and they damage a firearms finish quickly and the 2 I've had are very uncomfortable for anything other than for the range or during competition use. Otherwise I absolutely hate them for EDC use and only use them now with my old duty belt and when at the range.
Thanks OG for the update on this particular holster and some of the things that you pointed out were issues , are exactly what I thought would be an issue after having something very similar to it in the past that went on a regular pistol belt instead of having the elastic waist band.
